Essie M. Baxter

Essie M. Baxter, 89, of Sneads, FL died Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Jackson hospital.

Ms. Baxter was born in Sneads, FL and was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. She retired as a nurse from the Department of Corrections after 31 years. She enjoyed canning, cooking, and eating out. Ms. Baxter loved to bake cakes and baked many of them. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Salem Wesleyan Church. She was an organist, sang in the choir, and enjoyed working in the church.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Coy Lee Baxter; son, Dewey Baxter; brother, Maxwell McKinnie; one sister, Tessie Poole.

Survivors include three daughters, Sondra Anderson (Jeff) of North Carolina, Janet Lopez (Jose) of Grand Ridge, FL, Rebecca Mitchell (Larry) of Dellwood, FL; one daughter in law, Betty Baxter; two brothers, Jerry McKinnie (Marie) of Grand Ridge, FL, Oscar McKinnie (Katie) of Sneads, FL; one sister, Margaret Robbirds (James) of Sneads, FL, Shirley Hare (Doug) of Sneads, FL; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. 

The family will receive friends Monday, May 27, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Salem Wesleyan Church.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Salem Wesleyan Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. 

The family would like to thank, Dr. Chin, Dr. Krishna and the staff at Jackson Hospital for the loving care they gave their mother. They also extend a special thank you to loving care giver, Debra O’ Connor of Gail’s Traveling Angels.

Brayden Christopher Dorminey, age 12 went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at his home.

Brayden was born on June 3, 2006 in Panama City, FL and has spent his lifetime in Fountain where he attended Fountain Pentecostal Ministries Church. Brayden enjoyed playing video games, fishing, and loved old muscle cars.

He is survived by his parents William and Kayla Dorminey, grandparents Jerry and Kimberly Mills, Dora Davis, and Johnny Dorminey, great grandparents Ray and Patsy Adams, uncles Jerrid Collins and wife Autumn, Christopher Dorminey, Joseph Dorminey and wife Beth, cousin Paisley Collins.

A Celebration of Life service for Brayden will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 26, 2019 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Brother Terrell Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in the Cottondale First Baptist Church Cemetery. The Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of service.

James Darwin Justiss

TUSCALOOSA - James Darwin Justiss, age 82, passed away on May 21, 2019, doing what he loved best - tending to his very unique garden at his home. His family’s hearts are full in knowing that he stepped from his backyard garden into the Heavenly Garden that God had prepared for him. Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Heritage Chapel, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Tim Lovett will be officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing.

Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Amos and Ethel Curington Justiss; his sister, WyNell Justiss Massengill; and two brothers, Walter Amos Justiss, Jr. and Mckay Justiss. 

He leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Brenda Berryhill Justiss; his sons, Brian Justiss and Clay Justiss of Tuscaloosa; three grandchildren, John Justiss, Julia Justiss, and Ryan Justiss; and one great-grandson, Jaxon, who quickly became the light of his life. 

Darwin was an outstanding athlete at Marianna (Florida) High School. He attended Florida State University, where he excelled on the dive team and in gymnastics. He was also a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity while at FSU. He established a successful career as a swimming and diving coach in Texas and was recruited by the Montgomery YMCA to develop their swim team. In 1966, he was hired to establish a swim team in Tuscaloosa at the Queen City Pool. In 1968, he joined Gulf States Paper Corporation (North River Yacht Club), where he remained in resort management until retirement. 

Pallbearers will be John Justiss, Ryan Justiss, Damian Johnson and Bob Cleere. 

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Steve Lovelady and staff, the Evans-Garner Sunday School Class at Calvary Baptist Church, Marianna High School Class of 1954, Former Employees of NorthRiver Yacht Club, and Employees of West Coast Customs. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Acts 1:8 Ministry or the S. D. Allen Ministry at Calvary Baptist Church or Big Oak Ranch.

Cindy Barfield, age 59, of Grand Ridge, FL passed away Wednesday, May 22, 2019 in Marianna, FL. Cindy was born on January 15, 1960 in Jacksonville, FL to Monk Barfield and Kathryn (Green) Barfield and had lived in Grand Ridge most of her life. She worked for Raytheon Corporation formally Unimac in Marianna for a number of years. Cindy was a 1978 graduate of Grand Ridge High School, she loved sewing, all types of crafts, ceramics and traveling. She was a member of Shady Grove Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her father, Monk Barfield.

Survivors include,

Companion of many years, James Lawrence of Grand Ridge, FL

Two brothers, Matthew Barfield and wife, Jennifer of Altha, FL

Paul Lee Albert Smith of Malone, FL, better known as the pink man or fish man,  passed away Thursday, May 23, 2019 in the comfort of his own home. He was a long time resident of Jackson County. He enjoyed fishing, and farming in his down time. He also worked the Marianna Farmers Market for 30 plus years. Paul loved his family and friends more than anything. 

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Darlene. Earline Curry Williams

Ms. Earline Curry Williams of Dothan, Alabama, went home to be with the Lord on May 21, 2019 while a patient in the Southeast Health Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

She was born November 21, 1974 in Orlando, Florida to Mabell Pittman Session Cook of Campbellton, Florida and John Curry of Graceville, Florida. Earline was younger than her two remaining siblings. She was preceded in death by her older sister, Patricia Session.

Mr. Reginald A. Williams, Sr. and Earline united in Holy Matrimony on January 31, 1996 and remained until her departure from earth.

Earline attended Graceville High School until she committed and enrolled into Earle C. Clements Job Corps Center in Morganfield, KY. She successfully completed the program and earned her G.E.D.

Earline had successful careers with the following retail and customer services employers: Vanity Fair Outlet in Graceville, FL (2012 – 2017) and Piggly Wiggly in Dothan, AL (2017 – until her heavenly departure).

Earline’s people skills, happiness, kindness, brightness, laughter, helpfulness, rich and humorous demeanor always filled all individuals and environments with lavish positive joy.

She will be truly missed by those who loved her and she leaves to cherish her loving memories – her husband, Mr. Reginald A. Williams, Sr.; two children: Precious Everett and Reginald A. Williams, Jr. both of Dothan, Alabama; her true love and #1 mother: Mrs. Mabell Pittman Session Cook of Campellton, Florida and her father, Mr. John Curry, Chipley Florida; two sisters: Ms. Queen Session, Campbellton, Florida and Ms. Teresa Session Burden, Dothan, Alabama; her dear mother-in-law: Mrs. Ira Nell Davis, Madrid, Alabama; sisters-in-law: Ms. Sandra (Earnest) Hall of Jacob City, Florida, Ms. Stacey (Devon) Cleamons, Jacob City, Florida, Ms. Linda Gail (Fred “Bo”) Sorey of Graceville, Florida, Ms. Mary Jane (Rickey) Wilson of Madrid, Alabama and Ms. Sylvia Dozier of Madrid, Alabama and one brother-in-law, Mr. Gary (Keely Danzey) Davis; a host of devoted and loving aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, co-workers, and family.

Fred Julian Tyre

Fred Julian Tyre, 75, of Grand Ridge passed away peacefully Saturday, May 25, 2019 at his home.

Mr. Tyre was born in Calhoun County on September 25, 1943 to Fred J. and Nellie Dykes Tyre. 

Fred was a lifelong resident of Jackson and Calhoun Counties.  He attended Altha Public Schools and went on to attend Chipola Jr. College where he wrote and sold term papers to earn extra money. Mr. Tyre was known as a farmer, equipment repairman, clearing land and raising livestock since he was a young child following his family’s heritage.  In his professional life he worked at the Grand Ridge Post Office, was co-owner of M & F Sod Company; owned and operated Fred Trye Farm and retired as shop supervisor of the Mechanics Division of Qunicy Farms.  He hauled many loads of watermelons to market. Fred enjoyed having multi-acre gardens; at times he raised hogs, goats and chickens and kept around 200 head of cattle. He loved spending time with friends at fish fry’s where he always had a joke or recent misadventure that would fill the room with laughter.

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Doris O’Bryan Tyre; daughters, Susan Skinner of Ridge, Darlene Bishop and husband, Mark of Greer, SC; Saundra Thigpen and husband, Trent of Jacksonville, Julie Potter and husband, Eddie of Marianna, Vanessa Bishop and husband, Matt of Grand Ridge; the mother of his children, Barbara Tyre of Marianna; a brother, Edmond Tyre and wife, Lenoria of Frink, FL; two sisters, Sonjia Lee and husband, Roger of Panama City, Monicia Tyre of Grand Ridge; his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, known to them as Grandpa on the farm, PingPa or Grand Pa Hammerknocker.

Funeral services will be 3 pm, Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Chaplain Gino Mayo,  Rev. Victoria Scofield and Sister Mary Frances Dudley officiating. Interment will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The Reverend Lillian Collins Jones, age 76, of Marianna, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Thursday May 23, 2019 at Jackson Hospital with her family at her bedside.

She was Assistant Pastor of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Panama City, Florida and Pastor Solid Rock Community Holiness Church in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

She is survived by her husband: Howard Jones; nine sons: Benjamin Hargrove, North Carolina, Jesse Adams of Temple Hill, MD, Ronald Adams (Ann) of Arizona; Edward Adams (Andrea) of Upper Marlboro, MD, Tony Adams (Charlotte) of Suitland, MD; Calvin Collins (Tina) of Maryland, Leonard Collins (Chrystal) of Waldorf, MD, Michael Collins, Miami, FL and Frank Collins of Temple Hill, MD; three daughters: Tunion Vaughn (Darryl) of District Heights, MD, Conzswella Collins of High Point, NC and Lorraine Collins of District Heights, MD; one sister: Bessie Mae Cambron of New York; 34 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Public visitation will be 1-6 PM, Friday, May 31, 2019 and the family will receive friends from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 11 am, Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Mt. Olive AME Church, 2135 Fairview Rd, Marianna, FL with the Reverend Charles Flowers, pastor and the Reverend Douglas Jones/eulogist.

She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Darrell Gilbert Porter, age 90, passed away May 24, 2019 at his residence in Two Egg, Florida with his loving family at his bedside. Mr. Porter was born in Elletsville, Indiana on November 27, 1928 to Cathrine and Clifton Porter. He served in the National Guard during the Korean War.

Mr. Porter is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Barnett; son, James Porter and daughter, Darlisa Linne.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Porter; children, Reanea Waddell, Darlene Page, Clifton Porter, Carol McGee, Sandra Stanley, Jenny Johnson, Candy Mandeville, Becky Bennett; 13 grand children, also special Caregiver and granddaughter, Rena Smith; 18 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church in Dellwood with Rev. Michael Carr & Holland Braxton officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time, Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church.

Gwendolyn Louise Burch

Gwendolyn Louise Burch, 73, of Grand Ridge, FL, died Sunday, May 26, 2019 at her home.

Gwen was born on May 14, 1946, to the late Rainey and Flossie Watts. She retired from the Jackson County School Board after 43 years of service at Grand Ridge School, where she was a mentor and confidant to many.  Gwen was a lifelong active member of Christian Covenant Church, where she taught Sunday School, was a church Board Member, and a service leader who loved the church and the people who attended it.  Her husband describes Gwen as woman who lived to spoil her grandchildren, she “just loved us”, and was completely devoted to God and Family.  Gwen was an amazing writer, which captured the beauty of goodness and faith through eloquent words that she shared with family and close friends.

Gwen was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas Watts, and two sisters, Ella Mae Childs and Doris Watts Branch.

She is survived by her husband, Layfette Burch; one daughter, Staci Sneads and husband Sammy; one son, Jami Burch, and wife April; four grandchildren: Malaina Woods and husband Dustin, Braden Sneads, Spencer Sneads, and Wyatt Burch; one great grandchild, Mattalynn Woods; one sister, Sallie Gable and husband, Richard.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2019 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in Marianna, FL.

Funeral services will 10 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2019 at Christ Covenant Church located at 2011 Finley Avenue, Grand Ridge, FL with Reverends Gary Gable and Jerry Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Shelby Jean Haddock

Shelby Jean Haddock, age 80 of Chipley, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 24, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Shelby was born on October 31, 1938 in Caryville, Florida to Lester and Ruth Hall Anderson. She worked for the Washington County School Board as School Bus Driver and was a lifelong resident of Washington County. She was of the Pentecostal faith. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Ruth Hall; three brothers: Wesley Anderson, Johnny Anderson, and Dallas Anderson. 

She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Clifton Haddock of Chipley, Florida; two sons: Mark Haddock and wife Elaine of Hamilton, Montana, Bobby Haddock and wife Laura of Chipley, Florida; two daughters: Violet Whitman of Bonifay, Florida, Norma Scurlock and husband Richard of Panama City, Florida; two brothers: J.D. Anderson and wife Ann of Spokane, Washington, Tommy Anderson of Blissfield, Michigan; two sisters: Betty Eberle of Blissfield, Michigan, Pat Brown and husband Randall of Bonifay, Florida; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor 11A.M. Monday, May 27, 2019 at Wausau Assembly of God Church in Wausau, Florida. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnny B. McKinnie age 81 of Navarre, Florida passed away suddenly with family by his side Saturday May 25, 2019 at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  A native of Chipley, Florida.  Mr. McKinnie has called Santa Rosa County home for many years. He is survived by his wife: Catherine Chestnut McKinnie; children: Cynthia Rowe and Sharonia Gilliam both of Conyers, Georgia; Garry McKinnie, Ida Cooper, Gregg McKinnie and Tony McKinnie all of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and a host of other close relatives and friends.

Maxwell Eugene McGill age 65 of Marianna passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at his home. He was a native of Marianna born on March 23, 1954 to the late Melvin Eugene and Evelyn Haddock McGill. He loved fishing, reading, and crossword puzzles. Max was beloved by family and friends, who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marsha Posey, and his brother Harold Locke.

Max is survived by his sister Gwen Allen and husband Bruce, brother Larry Ball and girlfriend Nikki, niece Melanie Forston and husband Jason, their children Andrew and Bryce, Joshua Posey and his fiancée Jennifer and their children Ian, Brikston, and Brooklyn, niece Kristin Raffield and her husband Jesse.

Memorialization will be by cremation.

Billy Gene Barfield, age 81, of Marianna, FL passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019 in Dothan, AL. Billy was born on February 6, 1938 in Calhoun County to William Elton Barfield and Pansy (Ayers) Barfield and had lived in Jackson County for most of his life. He was a retired self-employed trucker. Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and especially loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Elton Barfield and Pansy (Ayers) Barfield, two brothers, Bernice and Monk Barfield.

Delores “Dee” Campbell

Delores “Dee” Campbell age 72 of Cottondale, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2019, at Southeast Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama from complications stemming from cancer. She was born on July 28, 1946 in Binghamton, New York to the late Robert and Doris Hawkins. She graduated from Sidney High School in Sidney, NY. Dee has been a resident of Cottondale since 1986 and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cottondale for over 30 years. She led many of the church’s group activities including the music program and children’s puppet programs She also led a nonprofit food service for the Cottondale area. In doing so, she received the Jefferson Award for her outstanding public service to her community. She enjoyed church, traveling and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Campbell, grandchild Cole Campbell, and one sister-in-law Sandra Vermilyea.

Delores is survived by two sons Richard Campbell, II, and Michael Campbell and his wife Melinda, grandchildren Chase Campbell, Hailey Campbell, Isabelle Campbell and great grandchild Harper McKinnon, all of Cottondale. Siblings Randy Hawkins of Texas, and Jacqui Green of Sidney, New York. She is also survived by cousins Hiram & Donna Wagaman, of Pennsylvania, in-laws Gary and Patricia Gonyea, Darlene Campbell, and Elaine Starbuck, along with lifelong friends Mike and Cathy Hawes.

Services for Dee will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 31, 2019 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Hawes officiating. Family will receive friends on Thursday, May 30, 2019 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM,

Mary Louise Dawson Myrick

The Reverend Mary Louise Dawson Myrick of Springfield Community of Marianna, Florida transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Saturday, May 25, 2019, in Jackson Hospital.  She was a member of Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church. 

Homegoing Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, June 01, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church located at 4194 Union Road Marianna, FL 32446 with Reverend Hollis McClendon, Pastor, Reverend Dr. Michael J. Johnson, Sr, Reverend Priscilla Brown, Reverend Michael G. Johnson, Reverend Gerrard Lindsey and Elder R. Phillip Russ, Eulogist. 

Interment in James G. Myrick Memorial Gardens. Vann Funeral Home in charge of service.

Reverend Myrick will lie in repose at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time for the service.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Vann Funeral Home.

Chuck Miles, 79, of Cottondale, FL died Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at his residence.

Born in Cottondale, FL to Wiley Miles and Lina Davis Miles. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, A.D. Miles and Wes Davis and sister Martha Howard.

He is survived by four children, Wanda Biggs and husband, Rev. Allen Biggs of Marianna, FL, Tonja Land and husband, Steve Land of Cottondale, FL, Charles Miles Jr. of Murphyboro, GA, and William Miles of Cottondale; Eight Grandchildren, Amber Barnes and husband Ricky of Marianna, Joshua and Amanda Biggs of Marianna, Alyssa and Justin Harrelson of Dothan, AL, Jonathan Biggs of Jacksonville, Tanya and DJ Clunan of Panama City, Kyle Daniels and Beth of Marianna, Paige Miles of Compass Lake, Alexx Miles of Altha; 15 Great Grandchildren, Richie, Rylan, Rathan and Alyvia Barnes, Isabella, Lilly and Ellie Biggs, Asher and Adilyn Harrelson, Nolan and Emma Clunan, Stephanie and Lukas Daniels, Jayla Weeks and Abel Miles; one brother, Donnie Miles and wife, Rita of Warrensburg, MO; sisters, Agnes Twarkins of Kinsey, AL and Bonnie and James Griggs of Malone, FL.

He liked farming, and working with horses and his cows. He loved to travel the world. He also was loved by many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 at The Sanctuary in Marianna, FL with Reverend Allen Biggs officiating. Interment will follow in the Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at The Sanctuary in Marianna, FL.

The family would like to thank Kindred Health, Emerald Coast Hospice, and his loving caregivers, Melinda Barber, Debbie Caswell, Linda Davis and Jenelle Smith.

Ralph (Billy) Banks, age 71, of Grand Ridge, FL, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019 in Marianna, FL. Billy was born on September 4, 1947 in Jackson County to Ralph Banks Sr. and Edna Earl (Hamilton) Banks. He farmed for most of his life and he was employed by Anderson Columbia for his last 12 working years as a heavy equipment operator until he became ill in September of 2017. Billy was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends.  He enjoyed gardening, fishing, and especially spending time with his girls. Billy was a man of faith and lived life serving others.  He will be missed but not forgotten.

Survivors include his mother Edna Earl Banks (92); his devoted wife of 47 years, Ima Jean (Edenfield) Banks; one daughter Tammy Banks Green and fiancé Jeff Tissue; one son Scotty Banks; three granddaughters, Amber Pruett, Christin Baxter, and Mikayla Suber; three great grandchildren Aubree, Rylann and Mavrik; four sisters, Wanda Dudley of Grand Ridge, FL, Barbara Craycraft of Marianna FL, Debbie Chambliss and husband Andy of Marianna, FL and Neil Bland of Marianna, FL.

He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Banks Sr. and brother Bruce Earl Banks.

The family will receive friends Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 5:00pm (CDT) until 7:00 pm (CDT) at McAlpin Funeral Home.  Celebration of Life services will be held Monday, June 3, 2019 at 10:00 am (CDT) at Praise Life Center in Grand Ridge, FL with Rev. Sonny Coburn and Rev. Gary Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Grand Ridge, FL.

David B. Horton

David B. Horton, 69, of Grand Ridge died Thursday, May 30, 2019 at his home.

David was born in Altha, FL, May 29, 1950 to the late Herchiel Byron Horton and Ella Mae Fox Horton.

He was a longtime educator with Grand Ridge and Sneads High Schools. He taught P.E. and coached basketball and baseball at Grand Ridge for several years prior to becoming the Drivers Ed teacher at both Grand Ridge and Sneads High Schools. He was a deacon, Sunday school Director, VBS Director at Providence Baptist Church in Grand Ridge and in later years served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Marianna.

Survivors are his wife, June Neel Horton; son, Tony Horton (Holly) of Panama City Beach, FL; daughter, Kelly Ziglar (Ryan), of Marianna; three grandsons, Garrett, Dylan and Nathan Ziglar, all of Marianna; two sisters, Betty Meredith (Bruce), Dorothy Nicolo all of Tallahassee; brother-in-law, Bill Neel (Linda) of Grand Ridge; several cousins, nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be Sunday, June 2, 2019 at First Baptist in Marianna with Shane Mercer officiating. Interment will follow in Carpenter Cemetery in Grand Ridge with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. 

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until funeral time at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Marianna.

Ernest “Skip” Knopp Jr.

Ernest “Skip” Knopp Jr., age 73 of Fountain, passed from this life on May 31, 2019 at Washington Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Chipley, Florida.

Skip was born on August 6, 1945 in Nankin Township, Michigan to Ernest Carl Knopp and Magdalen Zemke. He had been a resident of Florida since 1957, coming from Michigan. He was of the Protestant faith and was a Brick Mason by trade. He courageously served in the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War. Skip was a member and valuable asset of AmVets Post 231, Fountain, Florida, where he was the Canteen Manager. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his brother: John “Butch” Knopp and wife Darlene of Wewahitchka, Florida; sister: Judy Heisler of Miami, Florida; special friends: Edward and Debra Lowe of Fountain, Florida.

Memorialization will be by cremation with Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida in charge of arrangements.
