Kim Neely, 47, of Chattahoochee, FL passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Grace Baptist Church with Rev Conrad Salter, Mr. Patrick Neely, and Mr. Gene McCall officiating.  A private interment will follow at Sylvania Cemetery.

Kimberly Ann Neely was born March 26, 1972 in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of John Marvin and Shirley Ann McCall Neely.  Kim was a Bainbridge High School graduate and earned a nursing degree in 2014.  She worked as a traveling nurse, which fit well with her outgoing personality.  She loved to care for other people and took pride in her work.  Kim always put everyone else’s needs before her own.  Her heart was made of gold.  When Kim wasn’t working, she loved to spend time with her family, especially spoiling all her nieces and nephews.  

Survivors include her siblings, John Eric Neely and Sharon Amanda Neely, both of Chattahoochee, FL; and her nieces and nephews, Tiffany, Chelsey, Cassady, Cheyanne, Damien, Matthew, and Mayleigh. Kim was preceded in death by her father, Johnny Neely. Kim and her mother, Shirley Neely, passed away at the same time in a tragic car accident.

Shirley McCall Neely, 65, of Chattahoochee, FL passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019.

Shirley Ann McCall was born February 8, 1954 in Crestview, FL, the daughter of Melvin and Minnie Lee McDonald McCall.  Shirley was a graduate of Chattahoochee High School and worked as a Ward Clerk for Florida State Hospital for 32 Years.  She married her soul mate, Johnny Neely, in 1972 and they celebrated 43 wonderful years together until his passing in 2015.  

Shirley was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She loved to surround herself with family. She could always find time to be around her kids and grandkids. Shirley had a big heart and a funny sense of humor.  She always had a smile on her face and loved to joke around.  You could always catch Shirley on her phone talking someone’s ear off, except when everyone was chowing down at a family fish fry.  

Survivors include her children, John Eric Neely and Sharon Amanda Neely, both of Chattahoochee, FL; her siblings, Thad & Carol McCall of Jay FL, Ricky & Rose McCall of Climax, GA, Melvin McCall, Jr. of Chattahoochee, FL, Wanda Sue & Dale Harrison of Bainbridge, GA and Gene & Debra McCall of Bell, FL; her grandchildren Tiffany, Chelsey, Cassady, Cheyanne, Damien, Matthew, and Mayleigh; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Shirley McCall Neely was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Neely; and her brother, William McCall.  Shirley and her daughter, Kimberly Neely, passed away at the same time in a tragic car accident.

Mr. Devon R. White, Sr. of Atlantic City, New Jersey, formerly of Springfield Community, transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Friday, May 03, 2019, in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  He was a member of Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church. 

Homegoing Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church located at 4194 Union  

Road Marianna, FL 32446 with Reverend Hollis McClendon, Pastor officiating. Interment in Springfield Cemetery. Vann Funeral Home in charge of service.

Mr. Devon R. White, Sr. will lie in repose at the church from 12:00 noon until time for the service.

A viewing will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Vann Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vernestine Thomas of Cottondale, Florida transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Tuesday, May14, 2019 at her residence.  She was a member of Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church.  

Homegoing Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Mount Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church located at 2135 Fairview Road Marianna, FL 32446 with Reverend Charles E. Flowers, Pastor and Reverend Jessica Muse officiating. Interment in Mount Olive Cemetery.

Mrs. Thomas will lie in repose at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time for the service.

Debbie Cook, 62, of Grand Ridge, FL died Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Jackson Hospital.  

Debbie was born November 4, 1956 in Marianna, FL to the late Hubert and Christine (Gay) Cook. She retired from the Jackson County School Board as an Educator and was currently employed by Jackson Hospital. Debbie thoroughly enjoyed the beach, playing games with family, reading, fishing, and spending time with her pets.

She was preceded in death by her parents and niece, Katie Parish.

Debbie is survived by her son, Cary Barfield and wife, Danielle of Chipley; daughter, Kelly Baker and husband, Chris of Tallahassee; two sisters, Linda Howard and husband, John of Grand Ridge and Karen Parrish and husband, Timothy, also of Grand Ridge; a host of nieces and nephews, and her dear fur babies, Dixie and Lucie.

A Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2019 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Pastor Gino Mayo and Gerald Trotman officiating. 

The family will receive friends from 2:30 until service time at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.

Disposition will be by cremation with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Robert Lee Clemons, of Ponce de Leon, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on May 12, 2019.  He was 69 years old.

Robert was born on May 18, 1949 in Walton County, Florida to the ate Dollie M. Byrd and Terah Clemons. Being raised in a Christian home, Robert was baptized at an early age and was a member of the Red Bay Church of Christ.  He attended Chapel Hill School and graduated from Tivoli High School.  Robert enjoyed doing yard work, especially for Mrs. Mary Jane Andrews.  He loved his family and always had a grand time when his favorite two joking buddies, Alice McCall and Lee Siples, would come around.  

He leaves to cherish his memories his sister: Peggy (Roosevelt) Anderson; three (3) nieces: Denise (Byron) Green, Sheraka (Victor) Anderson and Katrina Anderson; nephew: Eric (Darlene) Anderson; great-nieces: Diamond Anderson, Rihanna Guice, Jayla Baker, J’Siona Bell, and Jaliya Bell; great-nephews: Jy’Trell Anderson, Ty’Vontae Guice, Issiah Anderson; first-cousins: Lunell McCaskill, Annie McCaskill, Wilmer McCaskill, Rita Brown Dickey, Belinda (William) Brown-Hogan, Velias (Obra) Hogan, Keith Brown, Felix Brown, and Setrell (Shirley) Brown; along with a host of  other relatives and friends.   

A Celebration of Robert’s Life will be held 3 PM CST, Saturday, May 18, 2019 from the sanctuary of the Red Bay Church of Christ in Ponce de Leon, Florida with Bro. Nathan Potter, officiating.  Committal Service will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida, directing.

Homer Bedford, son of the late Robert and Pearlie Mayers Bedford, was born on June 15, 1932 in Burns, MS.  He departed this life on Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 12:50 A.M.  He was long time resident of Bonifay, FL.  

After moving to Bonifay, FL, he became a member of New Bethel AME Church and served on the Board of Trustees.  He travelled throughout the state as part of the road crew building bridges for the State of Florida Department of Transportation and for the Holmes County Sanitation Department from which he retired in July 1994.  

He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Bedford; mother, Pearlie Mayers Bedford; wife, Ruby Lee Moore Bedford; brothers, Clarence Bedford, Robert Bedford, and Cleveland Bedford; sisters Allie Ruth Bedford, Eloise Rankin and Pearlie Mae Howard.  

He is survived by his daughter, Patricia Robinson (Harold), Leesburg, FL; granddaughter, Teresa Jones (Ric), Marietta, GA; great granddaughter, Alexis Jones, Marietta, GA; sisters, Connie Mae Barney, Covington, LA, Willor Dean Bedford, Covington, LA and Bobbie Nell Bedford, Covington, LA; foster daughter, Lillian Robinson, Leesburg, FL;  nephew Charles Bedford, Portland, OR; nieces, Pearl Howard Grayson (Dwayne), Stafford, VA; Faye Howard, Covington, LA; Virginia Johnson, Martinez, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and friends.

A Celebration of Homer’s Life will be held 11 AM CST, Saturday, May 18, 2019 from the sanctuary of the New Bethel A.M.E. Church of Bonifay, Florida with pastor, Rev. Claretta Smith and Rev. Charles C. Morris

Charles C. Morris age 71 of Clarksville passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at his residence. He was born in Gadsden County on November 2, 1947 to the late Curtis and Merle Morris. Charles spent most of his life in Jackson and Calhoun Counties and attended RCC in Blountstown. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  Charles continued to serve his community as a Law Enforcement Officer, where he worked many years as a Captain for the Marianna Police Department, then continued his career until retirement. Charles loved to play music and was an amazing lead guitarist, He was well known for playing events to help raise money for his community. Charles also enjoyed fishing, wood working, and spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William “Buddy” Morris and sister, Suzanne Mitchell.

Charles is survived by his wife, Eva Morris; children, Curt Reuther and wife Kim and Jevin Morris and wife Stephanie; siblings, Jimmy Morris and wife Jimmie, Sonny Morris and wife Linda, Christine Peacock and husband Bill, Carolyn Boudreaux and husband Donald, Angela Bulot and husband Danny, and Charlotte Buras; grandchildren, Alex, Madison, Ben, Nelson, Devony, and Vance. 

Funeral services for Charles will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.

George Allen Goodson

George Allen Goodson, 74, of Sneads, Florida passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019. He was born in Jackson County on September 25, 1944 and has been a lifelong resident since then.  Allen always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. He was a hardworking man who retired from Florida State Hospital after a long career and was a big fan of Florida Gators Football. Allen and his loving wife Shirley had a collaborative and caring relationship.  It was based on mutual support and a deep love for each other. Allen’s daughter and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. He was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with the family he was so proud of.  He enjoyed fishing and working with his hands in his workshop. Allen will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. 

Allen is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Goodson; one daughter, Becky Tatum (Steven) of Niceville, FL; two grandchildren, Will McDaniel and Kristen McDaniel;  two sisters-in-law, Alice Goodson of Millbrooke, AL and Hilda Goodson of Grand Ridge FL; two brothers-in-law, Freddie Culver of Quincy, FL and Harvey Culver (Shari) of Malone, FL; one aunt, Wynona Ridaught of Keystone Heights, FL; and one uncle, O. A. Goodson of Grand Ridge, FL; as well as, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Alice Goodson; two brothers, Bobby Goodson and Howard Goodson; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Williford.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at McAlpin Funeral Home on Sunday, May 19, 2019 and will begin at 2:00 PM CST with Rev. Steve Benefield officiating. Visitation with family and friends will be held one hour prior to service. Interment will be at Pope Cemetery in Sneads, FL.

Mr. Darrell Edward Ward, 62, of Panama City, FL formerly of Port St. Joe, FL went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 16, 2019 in Tallahassee, FL.

He was born on January 25, 1957 to Martha Ward Freeman and Tim Washington in Port St. Joe, FL.

Mr. Ward after graduating from high school, Darrell enlisted in the United States Army where he served over twenty-six years, retiring with honorable discharge.

He leaves to cherish his memories to the children: Darnell E. Ward and wife Varjorie and Alexandria D. Ward; siblings: Yolanda Pittman, Cathy Williams (Clifford), Elder Arion Nick Ward (Debbie), Dexter Baxter, Audrey Lowery (Pastor Robert III), Sharon Freeman, Montez Freeman, Valeria Freeman, Larry Freeman (Sylvia), Debra Freeman, Brenda Garland (James), Alvin Freeman and Calvin Freeman (Erica); a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

It is with great sadness that the family of Alice Faye Page announces her passing on May 17, 2019, at the age of 81. Faye passed peacefully at her daughter’s home in Tallahassee, Florida.  Faye was born March 24th, 1938 in Campbellton, Florida. Faye resided in Altamonte Springs, Florida. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Vernon Page.  She survived by her sister Wilma Kay Slater, daughter Dana Carol Beattie, granddaughter April Marie Braun and great-granddaughter (love of her life) Callie Jon Braun along with their children and spouses.

Her friends and family remember Faye as a compassionate person who loved life and enjoyed helping others. Faye loved her family and enjoyed fishing, traveling, listening to music, and going to the beach. 

A memorial service to be held Thursday, June 13th, 2019 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Orlando in the Marie Williams Chapel, 3000 S John Young Pkwy., Altamonte Springs, FL 32724.  Reception to follow.  There will be a graveside service in Marianna, Florida at a later date.

Donnie Ray Holman age 64 of Graceville, passed away on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at his home. Donnie was born in Graceville on July 31, 1954 to the late Oliver M. Holman, Sr. and Susan Burnham.  Donnie was graduated from Poplar Spring High School in 1972. He was longtime roofing contractor for the Geneva and Jackson County areas. 

He was preceded in death by his father, three brothers Joe Wallace Holman, Oliver Holman, Jr. and Charles Holman former Mayor of Graceville. 

Donnie is survived by his mother Susan Burnham,  son Alan Holman of Abbeville, AL, daughters Michelle Holman of Columbus, GA, Rene Holman of Columbus, GA, and Caitlyn Holman of Graceville, FL, sister Kathy Ann Downing of Graceville, FL, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service for Donnie will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 26, 2019 in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Raymond O’Quinn officiating.

Joseph Collins, 84, of Marianna, FL died Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Jackson Hospital.

Mr. Collins was born May 12, 1935 to Patrick Joseph Collins and Pauline Collins in Youngstown, Ohio. He lived most of his life in Marianna. He served in the United States Navy. He worked at Walmart for numerous years. He later sold and delivered medical supplies.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Greg Collins and one brother, Kenneth Collins.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Faircloth Collins, of Marianna; one daughter, Patty Collins, of Grand Ridge; a son, Richard Davis, of Marianna; one brother, Raymond Collins, of New Port Richey, and three grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Riverside Cemetery with Doctor Nathan Atwood officiating and James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Mrs. Pearlie Mae Oliver, age 91, of Graceville, Florida went home to be with the Lord on May 20, 2019 in Decatur, Georgia.

She is survived by four sons: Hubert Prather, Marianna, Florida, Sam Oliver, and Clifford Oliver both of Dothan, Alabama and Carl Oliver, Pensacola Florida; one daughter: Carole Oliver and granddaughter, Latoya Britt both of Atlanta, Georgia; one brother: Moses Barkley of Tallahassee, Florida; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be 3-6 PM, Friday, May 24, 2019 in the M. Sue & Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, Florida.

A life celebration will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church, 4194 Union Road, Marianna, Florida.

Mrs. Oliver will be laid to rest in the church cemetery under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, FL.

H. Michael Calhoun, 66, beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, passed away suddenly at his home on May 20, 2019.

 

Mike is a native of Cordele, Georgia and moved to Jackson county in 1995 where he worked as a registered nurse until retiring to work with his wife, Dr. Jana Calhoun.  He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a freemason. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many happy hours boating, fishing, and hunting.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Herbert Calhoun, and grandparents. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Jana Calhoun; daughter, Shelby Jackson-Fox [Carlos], grandsons, Juan and Joao Tavares; mother and stepfather, Jean and Dale Kelley. Sister, Judy Cape. Brothers, Scotty Calhoun [Candi], Dale Kelley II [Danyal], Tim Kelley [Ami] and numerous well loved nieces, nephews, great niece and great nephews. He will greatly missed as brother, Uncle Mike and most especially "sweet  baby".

Mrs. Jenet Campbell Blount, of Orlando, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on May 17, 2019 in the Health Central Hospital of Orlando, Florida.  She was 64 years old and a native of Chipley, Florida.

            Jenet was born on September 25, 1954 to the late James & Mary Louise Campbell in Chipley, Florida.  Being raised in a Christian home, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was a member of the Balls Temple First Born Church of Orlando, Florida.  Jenet’s passion was teaching and she loved her job teaching in the Orange County Public School System, where she retired from.

            Jenet was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert Leroy Blount, Jr., who preceded her in death.

            She leaves to cherish her memories four sons: Korey J. Blount, Torrey T. Blount, and Jamie T. (Joeann) Blount, all of Orlando, Florida, and Willie Taylor of Charlotte, North Carolina; daughter: Ashee B.             A Celebration of Jenet’s Life will be held 11 AM CST, Saturday, May 25, 2019 from the sanctuary of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church of Chipley, Florida with pastor, Rev. Tony Davis, & Elder Gary Cohen, Sr., and Elder Floyd Harper, officiating.  Committal Service will follow in the Northside Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida, directing.

            Public Viewing will be held Friday, May 24, 2019 from 12 Noon – 9 PM @ Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida.  The remains will lie in repose 1hr. prior to services at the church on Saturday.  Family and friends may express their condolences online at www.cooperchchipley.com.

Mrs. Millie Mae Nelson Holmes, of Caryville, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on May 18, 2019 in the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital of Tallahassee, Florida.  She was 63 years old.

            Millie was born on March 18, 1956 and was the second of five children. She was lovingly nurtured by her family – Mother Eunice L. Broxton Phillips, Stepfather Luie Ervin (John) Phillips, Grandfather King Broxton, Grandmother Millie Mae Broxton, Aunt Grace Lutley and Uncle George (Buck) Lutley – their guidance contributing to her growth. She accepted Christ as her person Savior at an early age and grew up in the St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church of Caryville, Florida. Millie moved to Detroit with her husband John and while in Detroit, Millie’s love for children lead her to become a childcare provider while rearing her own. When they were all in school, Millie decided to join the workforce again and began work at the Detroit Convention Center. She worked diligently and was loved by her co-workers. She eventually decided to get closer to her children and moved to the Detroit school system where she retired as a School Service Assistant. Throughout her life, Millie had many interests and hobbies.  She loved to grow things – plants, flowers and vegetables. She was well known for her beautiful healthy plants all over her home and yard. She also loved to do landscaping and developed this into a business. Millie also shared her mother's love of fishing and spent many happy moments fishing with John. Later in life Millie found the passion for crocheting and made beautiful blankets, hats, scarfs and afghans for family and friends.

            She leaves to cherish her memories her husband: John Holmes, Sr., of Caryville, Florida; two daughters: Carla Holmes and Charmaine Holmes; son: John Holmes, Jr., all of Detroit, Michigan; two grandsons: Jonathan Holmes and King Toney; siblings: Carol Bellamy (Charles Jr.) of Lynn Haven, Florida, Gregory Nelson (Deborah) of Melbourne, Florida, Dayatra Brown (Clarence Jr.) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Elvira Luncheon (Neil) of Ellenwood, Georgia; two step-brothers:  Morris Davis (Linda) of Tampa, Florida and Christopher Works of Caryville, Florida; Mother-in-law Bessie Graham, DeFuniak Springs, Florida; sisters-in-law: Pearl Shipman (Willie) of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Lucille Campbell (Reginald) of Pensacola, Florida, Stephanie Hawkins of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, and Cheryl Williams (Sam) of Crestview, Florida; brothers-in-law:  Don Holmes of Tallahassee, Florida, Tim Holmes of Orlando, Florida, Edward Graham (Angela) of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Donald Graham of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, Alonzo Holmes of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, and Kelly Graham of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

MaryAnn Barnett age 90 of Bascom passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019 in Marianna. She was born in Washington, D.C. on May 12, 1929 to the late Emalous and Ruth Barnett.

MaryAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Polwarczyk; brothers, Johnny Barnett, Jimmy Barnett, Billy Barnett, Tommy Barnett and one grandson, William Barnett.

She is survived by her daughter, RoseMary Everitt and husband Charles; brother, Robert Barnett; grandchildren, AnnMarie Shelton (Bill), Jennifer Simonetti, and Becky Everitt; great grandchildren, Dustin Everitt, Sean Everitt, Nick Simonetti, Emilee Shelton, Dillon Shelton, Trevor Shelton, and Everitt Shelton.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
