Deacon MC McCarter age 87 of Malone, FL passed away TuesdayApril 23rd at his residence surrounded by his loving family. 

Funeral services will be held 1p.m. Saturday May 4th, 2019 at  Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church located 5382 Old U S Road Malone, FL   (McChapel Community) with Rev. Mark Dudley officiating, Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Mckinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton, FL directing.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6p.m. Friday May 3rd at Mckinnie Funeral Home Chapel located 5304 Bowden Hill Rd Campbellton, FL. 

Deacon MC McCarter’s life journey began in Marianna on September 1, 1931 as the son of the late Virgil McCarter and Shellie McKay Bellamy one of fithteen children.

Deacon McCarter joined Mt. Zion at an early age and remained a faithful member until he moved to Bradenton, FL.  And joined St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church where he served in many capacities by singing in the Male Chorus, Choir and becoming a deacon.

On December 23 1963, he entered into holy matrimony to Lillie Mae Olds and to this union one daughter was born.

He was preceded in death by thirtheen siblings.

Deacon McCarter leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 55 years Lillie Mae Olds McCarter.

Two daughters: Beverly Smith (Kenneth) and Brenda McCarter 

Two sons:  Mitch McCarter and William “Jet” Gibson (Deloris) 

His adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren.

One Brother: David McCarter

A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Willie Frank Huff

Mr. Willie Frank Huff of Graceville, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Monday April 22, 2019 in Greenville, Florida after an extended illness.

He was a native of Cottonwood, Alabama and a member of the Third United Holiness Church in Graceville.  

He is survived by his siblings: Christine Hightower, Mary Adams, Willis Lee Huff and Elder Eugene Huff (Elnora); numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 4, 2019, from 11 AM until funeral time at 12 noon in the sanctuary of Third United Holiness Church, 892 8th Avenue in Graceville, Florida.

Mr. Huff will be laid to rest in the Graceville Community Cemetery under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Edward Earl Rhynes was born August 25, 1957 in New Jersey to Cleve Rhynes Sr., and Christine Young Rhynes.

Mr. Gerald Warren Golden, 72 of Graceville passed away at his home on Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Mr. Gerald was born in Graceville on March 5, 1947 and was a 1965 graduate of Poplar Springs High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, Airborne Division. Mr. Gerald was a diesel mechanic not only working from his home, he worked a number of years at Burford Caterpillar Equipment Company and then retired from John Deere Industrial Equipment Company.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at the Chapel of James & Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Scott officiating. Burial with U. S. Military Honors, given by Ft. Rucker Army Base, will follow at Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery with James and Lipford Funeral Home directing.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, 10 a.m. until time of service.

Preceded in death by his parents Russell and Winifred Dyss Golden, one brother Freddie Golden and brother-in-law Jimmy Crutchfield.

Survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Wanda Golden, two sons Austin Golden, Tony (Tina) Golden, Graceville; three granddaughters Ashlyn Golden, Alana Golden, Adriann Golden; three sisters Jeanette (Bobby) Scott, Lee, FL, Barbara Crutchfield, Dothan, AL, Joan (Chris) Bader, Colorado and a host of nieces and nephews.

Luvon Hudson Adams, 91, of Marianna, FL died Monday, April 29, 2019 at her residence. 

Luvon was born October 23, 1927 in Cottonwood, AL to the late Thomas and Osie Noblin Hudson. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County where she was a homemaker for most of her life. Luvon was a longtime member of Antioch Assembly of God Church in Grangerburg, AL.

Luvon Hudson Adams, 91, of Marianna, FL died Monday, April 29, 2019 at her residence. 

Luvon was born October 23, 1927 in Cottonwood, AL to the late Thomas and Osie Noblin Hudson. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County where she was a homemaker for most of her life. Luvon was a longtime member of Antioch Assembly of God Church in Grangerburg, AL.

Stefan Dewayne Lewis

Stefan Dewayne Lewis was born July 15, 1989 to Vince Lewis and Darlene Lewis, in Tallahassee, FL. On Sunday, April 21, 2019 the Lord called him home to receive his eternal reward.

Stefan received his formal education in the public school systems in Florida and South Carolina. A2008 graduate of West Gadsden High School in Greensboro, FL. Stefan enjoyed motorcycle riding, fishing, playing basketball, acting, and lying across the foot of his mother’s bed during chill time. He loved to challenge his family and friends to a game of basketball and often reminded his Carolina family that he never took an “L” in the Hemingway (Tigers) basketball uniform. He was an integralpart of Hemingway Middle School B Team who was undefeated and won the championship title in 2004. A beast on the court, Stefan played baseball well, however, he was an even better football player. Although he was not vocally gifted, he was a music enthusiast.

A Correctional Officer for the past eight years, Sgt. Lewis was employed by Liberty Correctional Institution and Quincy Annex. According to his colleagues, ‘he exemplified leadership and interpersonal skills that other officers emulated.’ Sgt. Lewis was a member of the prison’s Rapid Response Team and was known for “being at the front of the line when things went down.”

Stefan not only talked it, but he demonstrated the adage of “love is something you do.” He was afriendly, compassionate, and caring individual who absolutely loved his family and friends. He maintained some relationships established during his childhood, including those from summer visits and winter trips to Hemingway (Muddy Creek) SC.  

He remained a faithful and dedicated servant of the lord until his demise. Stefan Lewis leaves to cherish his devoted loving father Vince Lewis and his mother Darlene Copeland Rittman (Reverend Peter). His children daughter Jayla Lewis of Sneads, Florida, son Khiyon Lewis of Chattahoochee, Florida, and daughter Kaelynn Lewis of Quincy, Florida. Two brothers Craig Copeland of Atlanta, Georgia, and Sir: Vince Lewis of Tallahassee, Florida. One loving sister: Shirley Johnson of Chattahoochee, Florida. Grandmother: Juanita McCray of Gretna, Florida, Cecelia Booth (Like a grandmother) of Chattahoochee, Florida. God mother: Rose (Andric) Corker of Marianna, Florida. Aunts and Uncles; James (Tina) Bennett of Quincy, Florida, Willie (Lisa) Copeland of Houston, Texas, Henry (Marzette) Copeland of Chattahoochee, Florida, Richard Copeland of Hardaway, Florida, Barbara (Archie) Gee of Quincy, Florida, Dorothy (Hosea) Corker of Gretna, Florida, Sheila Jackson of Quincy, Florida , Lucas Smith of Gretna, Florida, Bettie Farrington, Emma Stephens, Saul Jr (Patsy) Lewis, Willie Eaddy, Catherine Lewis, Wendell (Julia) Lewis, Patricia Scott, Lorrie (Lester) Nichols.

He was preceded in death by: paternal grandparents-Saul Sr (aka Boy) and Hester Lewis; maternal grandfather-Willie James Copeland; aunts-Ethel Smith, Delores Copeland; uncles–Kelvin Jackson, Robbie Stephens Sr.

Mr.  Earnest Wayne Griffin was born on October 19, 1949 in Wise County, Virginia to the late Henry and Callie Griffin.  

Proceeding him in death are his brothers, Mr. Clarence Griffin, and Ballard Land.  

Mr. Griffin resided at Sunland since October 1986 prior to a short transfer to Tacachale in Gainesville, FL from May 15, 2001 until his return home to Sunland on December 10, 2001.  His last home here was Westside Apartments where the staff loved and cared for him.  

He leaves to cherish his memories a devoted sister & Guardian Advocate, Lena Huggins of Homosasa, FL, two other sisters, Evelyn Zomora and Joanne Shepard both of Homosasa, FL as well as his entire Sunland Family. 

Services or Mr. Griffin will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 2, 2019 in the Sunland Chapel with Chaplin Ruthie Moore officiating. A time of remembrance will be held from 9:00 AM until time of service.

Pedro T. Lopez

Pedro T. Lopez age 35 of Cottondale passed away after a courageous fight with cancer. He was born in Miami, Fl on January 17, 1984 and has been a resident of Cottondale for the past 26 years. Pedro was member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, playing basketball, and watching wrestling on tv. Pedro enjoyed watching Miami Hurricanes, Miami Heat, and the Miami Dolphins. He was a family man and loved spending time with his children.

He was preceded in death by one son, his grandparents, many aunts and uncles.

Pedro is survived by his father Pedro Felipe Lopez (Victoria), mother Maria Gonzalez (Gustavo), his loving wife Marisely Lopez, his children Yesenia Lopez, Pedro Lopez, Jr., and Kristian Lopez, brothers Barbaro Dominguez (Rebecca), Victor Gonzalez, Felix Batista (Hannah) Jamiley Gonzalez, Gustavo Gonzalez, Jr., Sandro Lopez, sister Joann Gonzalez, brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s Peter Ruiz (Rachel), Michelle Crose (Dalton), Jennifer Duncan (Caleb), Alain Adan, and Alex Adan,  in-laws Betty and Pete Ruiz. Betty Joyce Pelton

Betty Joyce Pelton age 90 of Alford passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019. Betty was born in Portland, Oregon on October 11, 1928. She moved to Jackson County in 1986 from Maryland. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, and loved telling stories about “the good ole days”.  Betty was a caretaker by nature who loved taking care of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Earnest and Ethel Brown, husband Harold R. Pelton, II, daughter Debralee J. Walling, and her brother Dwayne Bassett.

She is survived by her sons Harold R. Pelton, III and Greg Nickels, grandchildren Tony Shumaker (Lynn), Christopher Shumaker, Joseph Shumaker, and Shawn Nickels, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great -great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service for Betty will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, May 3, 2019 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until time of service.

Tony Lee Shumaker, II

Tony Lee Shumaker, II age 45 of Alford passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019 in Jackson Hospital. He was born on May 29, 1973 to his late mother Debralee J. Walling and father Tony Lee Shumaker, Sr.  Tony moved to Jackson County in 1986 from Maryland. He enjoyed being a mechanic and had worked for King of Battle. Tony also enjoyed fishing, racing, cooking, and helping people.

He was preceded in death by his mother, grandfather Harold R. Pelton, II, his grandmother Betty Joyce Pelton, and grandmother Dale Anderson.

Tony is survived by his father Tony Lee Shumaker, Sr., his wife of 18 years Lynn Shumaker, sons Travlaen Shumaker, Nathan Shumaker, and Ashton Shumaker, brothers Christopher Shumaker (Sarah), Joseph Shumaker, and Shawn Nickels, sister Betty Jo, grandchildren Chloe and Paisley Shumaker, and Levi Johnson.

John Deighton Decoubertin Simpson, IV

John Deighton Decoubertin Simpson, IV, passed awy on April 28, 2019 due to complications from pneumonia. The greatest joys of John’s life were his wife Elizabeth Milton Simpson, his daughters Kathryn and Gabrielle, and the Florida Gators.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John “Beau” Deighton Simpson, II, and Margaret Patricia Simpson, and his children John Milton Simpson, Lauren Dominique Simpson, and Mary Margaret “Maggie” Simpson. John is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Milton Simpson and his daughters Kathryn Elizabeth Simpson, and Gabrielle Nicole Simpson, his brothers Michael Thomas Simpson (Mary Katherine “Kay” Simpson) and Mark Ferris Simpson, and his bird dog JayBeau. John was born in Los Angeles, California on October 4, 1950. His family moved to Jackson County, Florida in 1956, where John spent the remainder of his life. John was a gifted athlete, lettering in football and basketball at Cottondale High School. He earned his AA from Chipola College, his BA in Economics from the University of Florida, and his JD from Gonzaga University College of Law. John was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1978. He was an aggressive and successful advocate for his clients. He was particularly proud to defend the rights and freedoms of individuals near and far. John always had a Brittany bird dog by his side. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, spending many days in the field and on the water, especially with his late father. He brought home dove, quail, pheasant, and duck, as well as both fresh and saltwater fish. He explored most of the rivers and creeks in the Florida Panhandle. He pulled off camo in court and always did his crossword puzzle in pen. He was a die-hard Florida Gator fan, who lived in orange and blue. “Its GREAT to be a FLORIDA Gator!”

The family will receive family friends on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or to St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

Willie G. Rogers age 74 of Marianna, passed away on Wednesday, May 01, 2019. He was born in Donalsonville, GA on December 27, 1944. He has spent most of his life in Marianna where he worked as a truckdriver for Jackson County Road Department. Willie enjoyed working on cars, and fishing on Lake Seminole. His great enjoyment in life was being Grandpa.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ecker and Estelle Foran, his brother Garland Keeman.

Willie is survived by his son Scott Rogers, grandchildren Breeanna-Rhede Rogers, and Joshua Elias Rogers,  and Scott’s mother Lucy Rogers Hoelzer. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. 

Memorialization will be cremation.

Hazel Mae Robinson

A beautiful life began for Ms. Hazel Mae Robinson on May 26, 1957 in Grand Ridge, Florida, born to Sylone Robinson and the late John Wesley Robinson, III.  She entered into eternal rest on Thurday, April 25th in Austin, Texas.  She was 61 years old.

 She attended the public schools of Jackson County and was a member of the graduating Class of 1975.  She furthered her education at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Alabama State in Montgomery, Alabama. Hazel was a member of the Delta Sorority

 Hazel accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Grand Ridge.  After moving to Austin, she united with Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.  She worked for the City of Austin and was Head Supervisor of the Accounting Department.

 She leaves to cherish her precious memories: a loving and devoted family; son, Darrell Robinson of Binghamton, New York; daughter, Lillian Robinson of St. Louis, Missouri; fiance, Wayne Henderson of Austin, Texas; mother, Sylone Robinson of Grand Ridge, Florida; brothers, John W. Robinson, IV of Newman, Georgia and Carlos L. Dr. Nelson D. Wilson officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with arrangements entrusted to  the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.

Thelma (Potter) Jenkins

Mrs. Thelma (Potter) Jenkins, of Panama City, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on April 23, 2019 in the Sacred Heart Health System of Pensacola, Florida.  She was 94 years old and a native of Vernon, Florida. 

Thelma was born on October 16, 1924 to the late Jessie & Lucille (Carr) Potter in Vernon, Florida.  She was of the Methodist Faith and was a member of the New Bethel AM.E. Church of Vernon, Florida. Thelma attended the public-school system of Washington County, and later received her High School Diploma from Shaw School in Panama City, Florida.  She worked part-time as a bus driver for the Council on Aging.  Thelma loved sewing in her spare time.  For most of her life, she worked as the bookkeeper for her husband, the late Coties Jenkins, Sr., in their family owned business. 

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her son: Coties Jenkins, Jr. (Valarie) of Panama City, Florida;  one she raised as her own: Steve Potter of Panama City, Florida; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; sister: Clydie Williams of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; two brothers: Clarence Potter (Ellaweese) of Chipley, Florida, and Matthew Potter of New Haven, Connecticut; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  

A Celebration of Thelma’s Life will be held 11 AM CST, Saturday, May 4, 2019 from the sanctuary of the New Bethel A.M.E. Church of Vernon, Florida with Rev. Carrie Brown, Pastor/Officiating.  Committal Service will follow in the Sylvania Cemetery of Vernon, Florida with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida, directing.

Elijah Williams, Jr.

Mr. Elijah Williams, Jr., of Bonifay, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on April 28, 2019 in the Bonifay Nursing & Rehab. Center of Bonifay, Florida.  He was 58 years old and a veteran of the United States Army. 

Elijah was born on May 14, 1961 to the late Aretha (Brown) and Elijah Williams, Sr. in Bonifay, Florida.  He was of the Baptist Faith and a member of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Bonifay, Florida and worked for the City of Bonifay for many years.

He leaves to cherish his memories his four children: Antonio Williams, Johnathan Williams (Chelsea Burke), Anastasia Williams, and Jessica Parrett; grandchildren: Andrea’ Williams, Aydreonna Cade and the late Camden Williams;  two sisters: Ida Mae King &  Helen Williams, all of Bonifay, Florida; two brothers: Rev. Martin Williams (Johnnie Mae) of Columbus, Georgia, and Michael Williams (Lydia) of Caryville, Florida; brother-in-law: Paul Killings of Bonifay, Florida;  a special niece: Tonya Nicole Johns; along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  

A Celebration of Elijah’s Life will be held 1 PM CST, Saturday, May 4, 2019 from the sanctuary of the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Bonifay, Florida with pastor, Rev. Cleve Wedderburn, Rev. Martin Williams, Dr. Andrew Davis, and Elder Kelvin Johnson, officiating.  Committal Service will follow in the Bonifay City Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida, directing. 

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, May 3, 2019 from 6-7 in the Cooper Funeral Home Chapel of Chipley, Florida.  The remains will lie in repose 1hr. prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Shakeya Nicole Morrison

Ms. Shakeya Nicole Morrison, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2019 due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  She was 35 years old. 

Shakeya was born on January 12, 1984 to Laura Mae Henry and Gregory Keith Morrison in Stuttgart, Germany.  Shakeya was a member of the Everlasting Word Church of DeFuniak Springs, FL and was employed with Metric Engineering Company.  

Shakeya was preceded in death by her grandparents: Issac James & Elizabeth Young Henry and John & Thelma Jewel Morrison. 

She leaves to cherish her memories her children: Keithan Damont Morrison and Kennedy Nicole Morrison both of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; her mother & father: Laura Mae Morrison of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and Gregory Keith Morrison (Lois Darden) of Augusta, Georgia; her beloved companion: LaDonte Randolph of DeFuniak Springs, Florida;  two (2) aunts: Tammy Arlene Morrison of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dorothy Donald of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; four (4) uncles: Alfred Lorenzo Henry of Waycross, Georgia, Robert Earl Henry (Earlene) of Tampa, Florida, Jonathan Wayne Morrison of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Darryl Kent Morrison of Cincinnati, Ohio; god-brother: Dominique Haynes of Jacksonville, Florida; along with a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.

Russell Hughes, officiating.  Committal Service will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery of DeFuniak Springs, Florida with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida, directing.

Marie Mayo Joiner

Marie Mayo Joiner, 95, of Marianna, Florida died Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Jackson Hospital, surrounded by her family.  

Born on January 20, 1924 to the late Charlie and Ella Medlock Mayo, Mrie he was a life long resident of Jackson County, and retired from 20 years of service at Sunland as a Cottage Parent. Marie was a Baptist by faith, loved cooking and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Thomas Joiner; daughter, Carolyn Mayo; son, Tommy Joiner; her parents, Charlie and Ella Mayo; grandson, Andy Bragg; along with four brothers, and one sister. 

She is survived by two sons, Clayton Joiner (Rachel) of Marianna, and Bobby Joiner (Rhonda) of Orlando; three daughters, Betty Sue Bragg, of Marianna, Shirley Gill (George) of Mexico Beach, and Barbara Pumphrey (Ray), also of Marianna; brother, James Mayo (Kathryn) and sister, Myrtle Patterson; eight grandchildren, Steve Joiner (Cindy), Scott Joiner (Kim), Stacy Joiner, Tammy Bragg Byrd (Thomas), Al Pumphrey (Jennifer), Jason Pumphrey (Jackie), Richard Russell and Shane Gill; along with eight great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., May 4, 2019 at Maddox Chapel with Reverend Gino Mayo officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 4, 2019 one hour prior to services at Maddox Chapel.

Robert “Rabbit” Lee Gillman age 70 of Graceville, Fl passed away on Monday, May 1, 2019 at his home. He was born in Pike County, Kentucky on August 14, 1948 to the late Clarence G. and Maxie Blackburn Gillman. He has been a residence of Graceville for forty years moving here from Lakeland, FL. Robert served his country in the United States Army, and had worked as a welder and a mechanic for Truck Equipment Company for several years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dallas Gillman, and a brother Bill Gillman.  Robert is survived by four sons, Daniel Gillman of Newport, NC, Robert Gillman of Chillicothe, Ohio, Danny Gillman of Hillsboro, Ohio, and Clarence Gillman of Indian Trail, NC, daughter Roberta McCallister of Graceville, FL, brothers Teddy Gillman of Graceville, FL, Larry Gillman of Avon Park, FL, and David Gillman of Madison, AL, three sisters Matilda Howell of Auburn Dale, FL, Margaret Jones of Graceville, FL, and Naomi Miles of Troy, AL. He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Services for Robert will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, May 4, 2019 in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Salem Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Cottondale, FL. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of service.

Justin Cole Glenn age 36 of Marianna passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. He was born in Dothan, Alabama on March 27, 1983. Justin was a 2001 graduate of Marianna High School, worked in food service, and was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing sports.

Justin is preceded in death by his mother, LaRhonda Glenn.

He is survived by his father, Steve Glenn of Marianna; daughter, Jadyn Glenn of Marianna; one brother, Jess Glenn (Kristi) of Marianna; aunts, Carol Prentiss (John) of Industry, Maine and Shirley Taylor (Bill) of Tallahassee; nieces, Kennedy and Khloe of Marianna.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, May 8, 2018 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Father David Green officiating.

A time of visitation will follow the celebration of life service.
