Glenn A. Stevenson

Mr. Glenn A. Stevenson of Chipley, Florida went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 31st at home surrounded by his family.  Glenn, age 64, fought cancer like the true Marine he was until Jesus lifted him up from his pain.

Born in Ontario, California, after graduation in the 70’s, Glenn served his country in the United States Marine Corp, serving at Eltoro Marine Base in San Diego, California, Paris Island, North Carolina where he did training to be a high power electrician and his last tour of duty was Okinawa, Japan.

Glenn was a kind hearted, loving, caring and giving man who would reach out to anyone in need.  When he was not with family or his grandbabies, he spent time fixing stuff, like lawn mowers in general.  He would help ones that had no means of helping themselves, which gave him self satisfaction and you knew he was happy by the childish grin he would display.  He was a valued member of his community and will be deeply missed by many.  Preceding him in death was his beloved father and mother, Gary Yee and Patricia J. Kelley; and his sister, Roxanne Emigh.

He leaved precious memories with a wonderful soulmate and partner for life, Gloria B. Scroggins; two brothers, Kelley Stevenson and Donald Moore and wife Kay; three sons, Chris Pauley, Coy Jennings and Jeremy Jennings and wife Audrey; three daughters, Brandi Mahurin, Patricia Stevenson and Jamie Jennings; 12 grandchildren, Jay-lyn, Jaydyn, Samuel, Andrew, Eternity, Gwendolyn, Isaiah, Ariana, Joanna, Larissa, Alexandria and Zeth; one great grandchild, Kamia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends   We will always love and miss you Glenn.  Legends Never Die!

A gather of family and friends to reflect on Glenn’s life will be held at his home on Saturday, November 17th at 1p.m. Memorialization will be by cremation with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.

Coreane graduated from Greenwood High School in Jackson County, Florida where she played on the girls’ basketball team and she excelled in math. She attended business college in Dothan, Alabama.

Upon graduation, she got a job as bookkeeper at Madison Motor Company in Madison, Florida. On Pearl Harbor Day, December, 7, 1941, she married her husband John. During the war, while her husband served, she worked at Greenwood Peanut Company in Marianna, Florida. Afterwards, she and John made their home in Madison where their children, Johnny and Reba, were born. In 1962, they relocated to Perry when they bought the Cantey-McDaniel Chevrolet business. Later they opened the Quality Auto Parts business.

Coreane was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-four years and by her parents, her sisters Estelle Rawls, Edna Messer and Pauline Peel. She is survived by her children John McDaniel of Perry and Reba (Rick) Olcott of Perry, three first cousins Emma Nell Durden of Grand Ridge, Florida, Jargo Clark of Madison, Florida and H. Hudson Messer of Tallahassee, Florida, a nephew Doyle (Jan) Peel of Chipley, Florida and a niece Vera (Mike) Furtick of Tampa, Florida.

Coreane considered her children her greatest blessing and her family was the center of her life. She used her talents as a homemaker and seamstress to bless her family. She made everything from Easter dresses and majorette outfits to men’s suits and horse blankets. If one of the kids wanted it, she made it! She also did needlework and crocheted beautifully. Many a baby has been cuddled in her handmade blankets. Her church family and friends appreciated her baking skills and enjoyed her Cream Cheese Pound Cakes and from-scratch Chocolate Brownies. Coreane considered flowers to be one of God’s perfect creations and cultivated them in her yard so she would have blooms every month of the year. She loved sharing them with others and was accomplished at flower arranging. She loved to participate in flower shows with her friends. One only needed to ask and she would share her flowers or make an arrangement for any organization or charity event.
