Lilima Delois Dawson

Lilima Delois Dawson, 80, of Bristol, FL passed away on Thursday, August 31 , 2017.  Service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephens AME Church in Bristol, FL.  Viewing will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2017 at Crawford & Moultry Funeral Home in Chattahoochee, FL.  Lilima Delois Dawson, affectionately known as “Duke”, was born in Bristol, Florida on December 6, 1936 to Roberta Donar and Willie Dawson. She was the third born of nine siblings. Lilima received her formal education in the Bristol public school system. In 1962, Lilima met and married the love of her life, George Carol Sanders, who preceded her in death in 1993.

Lilima was a homemaker who loved caring for her family. She was a very giving person and was known as “Mother Sanders” to many in her community because she was a listening ear, giving sage advice over a home cooked meal to whomever was in need. She would give you her last and never minded sacrificing because that is who she was and she never looked for anything in return. She was a very compassionate person. She was quiet to the world, but to those who knew her, Lilima had a great sense of humor, was very resilient, consistent, and a woman of her word. She was a great motivator, encouraging you to be all that you can be. She was also very intelligent and would let you know she was skipped twice in one year in high school. But she liked the simple pleasures of life. Lilima was very loving as a parent. She was rarely ever angry. She was also the keeper of your secrets and was the matriarch of the family; the glue that held it all together.

Lilima loved going to church and spending time with her grandchildren and took particular pleasure in caring for Faith. Her favorite color was yellow. She was an excellent cook and loved preparing meals for her loved ones. She served in the hospitality and culinary ministries in church. She was always a willing servant. As a mother, Lilima instilled in her children to speak up and advocate for themselves. She taught her children the importance of church and told them often to “keep the faith and keep believing” and to pray and trust in God. She was a model of prayer and her children often found her on her knees in deep prayer. She was a quiet storm and an intercessor for her children. Crawford and Moultry Funeral Home of Chattahoochee, FL, are in charge of arrangements.
