Claude L. Butler

Mr. Claude L. Butler, 91, a native of Climax, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2017, in Marianna, Florida after a lengthy illness surrounded by his loving family.  He was of the Baptist Faith and was a veteran of the United States Navy of WW II, serving with honors aboard the ship NAFIEH.  Claude was a retired Linesman with the Quincy Telephone Company in Quincy, Florida.  He loved to fish and turkey hunt when the chance presented itself.  Claude was a loving father, grandfather and a genuine family man.

He is survived by his daughter Claudette Davis and her husband Carl of Sneads, Florida; a sister, Barbara Tharpe of Quincy, Florida;  three grandchildren, Ashley Davis,  Ben Davis (Misty),  Scott Davis (Kelsey); five great grandchildren, Jonathan Davis,  Bridget Davis,  Zachary Davis,  Bryant Davis and Raily Weeks; two great great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Claude was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary E. Butler, three brothers and three sisters.

Visitation with the family will take place at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home Chapel, Friday, August 11, 2017, from 10:00 till 11:00 AM CST, one hour prior to Funeral Services which will commence at 11:00 AM CST in the Chapel, followed by Committal and Interment Services privately with the family at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy, Florida. Military Honors by United States Navy will be presented in honor of this Veteran.

Roy Frank Hatcher

Roy Frank Hatcher, 91, of Grand Ridge went home to be with his Lord, Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at his residence in Grand Ridge.

Mr. Hatcher lived his entire life in Jackson County.  He was a retired farmer and enjoyed fishing, hunting, working in his garden and sharing with family and friends.  He was an active member of Bascom Baptist Church most of his life, serving as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joyce Carilon Holbert; parents, Johnny and Martha Ham Hatcher, six brothers and sisters and the mother of his children, Edna Watford Hatcher.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Paulk Womack Hatcher; two sons, Curtis and wife, Jenny, Hilton and wife, Becky; a son-in-law, Ivan Holbert all of Bascom; one step-daughter, Joyce Riley and husband, David Edenfield; one step-son, Larry Womack; nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, three step grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2017 at Bascom Baptist Church with Revs. Matt Basford and Greg Roberts officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral services at Bascom Baptist Church.

Mr. Roy’s Family would like to thank his caregivers, Nita Hamm, Sharon Hamm, Bethany Overholt and Winnie Anderson for their care and compassion during this time.

Wandis C. Scott, 82, of Alford died Thursday, August 10, 2017 at her residence.

Wandis was born in Alford, Fl on June 20, 1935 to the late Ivey and Lena Vickery Daniels. She spent many years working on the family farm with her husband and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marianna.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Farrell Scott.

Survivors include two sons, John Carlton Scott and wife, Vicki, William Sim Scott and wife, Donna, all of Marianna; one daughter, Sandra Watson and husband, Craig of Blountstown; four brothers, Nolan Daniels of Marianna, Norris Daniels of Port St. Joe, Virgil Daniels of Blountstown and Terry Daniels of Marianna; seven grandchildren and spouses, nine great grandchildren and one to be born soon.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2017 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Rev. Ellis Vickery officiating. Interment will follow in Alford City Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral services at James  & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.

Deacon Arthur L. Baker of Marianna, FL, transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 in Jackson Hospital.

Deacon Baker was a member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church. He was an active member of in the community before and after retirement.  He was an active member of the Safia Temple #188 of Panama City (Shriner) and St Joseph #99 of Marianna (Mason) where he is the District Deputy Grand Master of District #5.  

Deacon Baker also held these past accolades:  Past Master of St. Joseph Lodge #99; Honorary Past Grand High Priest of W.C. Glenn Chapter #144; Sir Knight of Christian Commander #46; Past Commander in Chief of C.H. Henry Consistory #71; Grand Inspector General 33° Mason; Past Potentate of Safia Temple #188 of Panama City, FL; and Past Deputy of the Oasis of Panama City, FL. 

Deacon Baker was a current member and past Commander of the American Legion, Post 100; a current member and past Club President of the Marianna Optimist Club.  He was also past Lieutenant Governor of the North Florida District, Zone 3 of the Optimist Club; a current member, past Treasurer and Vice President of the New Golden Key Club; a current Life member of the Marianna Area Chapter 39 Buffalo Soldiers; a current member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) #10246); and a current member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) #22.  He was Advisor to and Past President of the Usher Board and President of the 3rd Sunday Choir.

Celebration of Life services  will be held Saturday, August 19, 2017 at 12:00 Noon from the sanctuary of Mount Tabor Missionary Baptist Church located at 3695 Poplar Springs Road in Marianna, FL with the Reverend Joseph Curry, Reverend David Cobb, Reverend Travis Ephriam, and the Reverend Dwight Cockerham, Sr. (Pastor), Officiating. Interment in the church cemetery. Vann Funeral Home in charge.

Deacon Baker will lie in repose at the church from 11:00 A.M. until time for the service.

A viewing will be held Friday, August 18, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. from the Chapel of Vann Funeral Home.

He leaves to cherish his memories, a loving and devoted family:

Mr. Monroe Rhynes, Sr. of Marianna, Florida entered into eternal rest on Thursday, August 10th at Jackson Hospital.  He was 78 years old.

A native of Jackson County, he was of the Baptist faith and a member of Bethel Star Missionary Baptist Church.

Precious memories will forever remain with one son, Monroe Rhynes, Jr. and wife Wendy of Marianna, Florida; one daughter, Bernice Rhynes of Marianna, Florida; one brother, Sylvester Rhynes of Kansas City, Missouri; three sisters, Eva Pearl Brown and husband Robert of Marianna, Florida, Clyde Mae Howard of Pensacola, Florida and Ida Mae McLemore and husband Macon of Haines City, Florida; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Rosetta Rhynes of New Jersey and Carrie Rhynes of Rochester, New Yorkand a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, August 19th at 11a.m. at Bethel Star Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor George Williams, Min. James Rhynes and Min. Virgil Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Orange Hill Cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.

Mr. Rhynes will lie-in-repose for one hour prior to the 11a.m. funeral time on Saturday at Bethel Star.

John Brigham, Jr.

Mr. John Brigham, Jr., 80 of Chipley, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 14, 2017 in the Bay Medical Center of Panama City, Florida.  

He was born on September 11, 1936 to the late Commaden Wright Brigham and John Brigham Sr. in Chipley, Florida. Being raised in a Christian home he was of the Christian Faith and a member of the Mt. Ararat First Missionary Baptist Church of Chipley, Florida. John was a self-employed pulpwood logger for numerous years and was a man who loved his family.  

He leaves to cherish his memories two (2) beloved daughters: Valarie Tolbert and Leisa Jones;  seven (7) sons: John Brigham III, Antonio Brigham, Eugene Hayes, Brandon Brigham, Jarod Brigham, Ervin Pittman, and Horace (Ricky) Owens;  16 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren; five (5) sisters:  Rose Kent, Martha Brigham, Corraine Brown, Vinnie Brigham, and Violet Bellamy;  three (3) brothers:  Isaac Brigham, Calvin Brigham, and James Brigham;  along with a large host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  

Home Going Services will be held 3 P.M. CST, Saturday, August 19, 2017 from the sanctuary of the Mt. Ararat First Missionary Baptist Church with pastor, Rev. Dr. H.G. McCollough, Rev. Tony Davis, Rev. Luther Farmer, and Rev. Thomas Smith, officiating. Committal Services will follow in the Northside Cemetery of Chipley, Florida with the Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida, directing. 

Public Viewing for Mr. Brigham will begin on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 4 - 9 P.M. CST in the Chapel of Cooper Funeral Home.  He will lie in repose at the church on Saturday, 1hr. prior to services.  Friends may express their condolences on the online guestbook at www.cooperfhchipley.com.

Shirley Mae Comerford

Shirley Mae Comerford, 79, of Sneads passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.

A native of Dothan, Al, Mrs. Comerford was a loving and supportive Military wife who traveled about the United States with her family as her husband served in the United States Air Force. In 1975 she came to Sneads where she resided until her death. In addition to raising three children she had a long career with the Florida Department of Corrections, retiring in 2001. She was well known for her loving and caring heart and unwavering faith. She was a member of Sneads Assembly of God.

She was preceded in death by her Husband John R. (Bob) Comerford, Mother Willie Mae Jones, Step-Father Luther (Papa) Jones, Father Namon Tice, Brother Ralph Tice and Sister Martha Peacock.

Survivors include a Brother Richard Tice (Jeanette); one Daughter Kathy Harrell (John); two Sons Robert M. Comerford (Kathy) and Richard D. Comerford (Melissa); seven Grandchildren; Kimberly Stinson (Ben), Benjamin Harrell, Kodey Comerford, Brandon Comerford, Stella Cotton (Michael), Logan Wainwright and Hunter Wainwright and four Great-Grandchildren Jacob, Emma, Trey, CC and one on the way. She is also survived by her best friend Doris Spurlock of Marianna.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11 am CST at Sneads Assembly of God with the Reverends Juno Douglas and Charles Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at the Comerford-Pelt Cemetery in Cypress with James & Sikes Funeral Home of Sneads directing..  Family will receive friends from 10 am CST Friday, August 18, 2017 until time of the service at Sneads Assembly of God.   

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation be made to the Sneads Assembly of God Missions Program in Mrs. Comerford’s name.   The family would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Walter J. Doty III and the nursing and patient care staff of 2-East at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center for the loving care and treatment provided to our Mother.

Claude Franklin Shores, 69, of Alford died Friday, August 4, 2017 at his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Jessie Shores and two brothers, Eddie Shores and Thomas Shores.

Survivors include his wife, Laralie Shores of Alford; three brothers, Clyde Monroe Shores of Dallas, TX, Gordon Edward Shores, and James Richard Shores both of Alford, FL; two sisters, Pauline Harrington of Alford, FL and Geraldine Piercy of Dallas, TX; special children, Rose Butler, Belinda Jones, Cassey Jones, Collean Flores, Billy Bailey and Mary Struthers; special grandchildren, Jaun Hernandez, Jr Flores, Adrian Sandidge, Haley Flores, Caitlen Osorio, London Botzoc, Leah Marie Bailey, Ruby Lee Bailey, Jasmine Struthers, Jacob Carmody, and one baby on the way, Lee Lee Hernandez.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel with Rev. Bob Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow in Alford City Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Frances Elizabeth Pitts, 75, of Chattahoochee died August 17, 2017 at Jackson Hospital.

Mrs. Pitts was born in Alliance,  Jackson County, Florida  where she lived most of her life.

She retired from Florida State Hospital as a Unit Treatment Rehabilitation Specialist and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley & Alice Hutchinson Pitts of Cypress. She leaves behind a host of special friends.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 19, 2017 at  Sims Cemetery beginning at 9 a.m. Central time. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna will direct.

Alphonso M. “Buddy” White

Deacon Alphonso M. “Buddy” White, age 99, of Jacob City, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Friday August 18, 2017 at the Washington County Health And Rehabilitation Center in Chipley, Florida.

He was a native of Jackson County, Florida and a member of Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Jacob City, Florida.

He is survived by three daughters: Terry A. White and husband the Reverend Obadiah of Chipley, Florida, Corine Jones of Panama City, Florida and Lossie M. White of Orlando, Florida; two sons: Johnny L. White and wife Bernice of Miami, Florida and Frank M. White and wife Wilmer of Houston,Texas; nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Public visitation will be 3-7 PM, Friday, August 25, 2017, in the M. Sue and Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, Florida.

Deacon White will lie in repose on Saturday, August 26, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M.

A life celebration for Deacon White will commence at 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 26, 2017, from the Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 1935 Jacob Main Street, Jacob City, FL with the Reverend Obadiah White, pastor/teacher officiating.

Donald (Don) Robert Myers, 65, of Marianna, Florida, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017. He was born to Clayton and Hilda Myers in Colchester, Vermont on November 20, 1951. Mr. Myers graduated from Rutherford High School in Panama City, attended Gulf Coast College and went on to graduate from the University of Vermont with his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering.  He had been a resident of Jackson County for 28 years, was a manager at Florida Public Utilities for 21 years until his retirement in 2010, and was a faithful member of the Marianna Optimist Club for 20 years. Donald is survived by his wife of 29 years, Elaine Myers; two daughters, Jennifer Kramer of Lakeland, Florida, and Holly Ellis and husband Brandon of Crestview, Florida; four grandchildren Camren, David, Eleanor, and Clara; one sister Donna Constant and husband Leo of Duxbury, Vermont; two brothers, Dwayne Myers and wife Darlene of Belmont, North Carolina, and Doug Myers and wife Donna of Hinesburg, Vermont. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Hilda Myers and son, David Trent.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, August 24, 2017 at Christian Center Church Fellowship Hall, with Pastor Tyler Ford and Pastor Mike Hawes officiating. James & Sikes Maddox Chapel in Charge of arrangements.

Barbara Ann Green Dudley

Mrs. Barbara Ann Green Dudley of the Saint Rose Community of Grand Ridge, Florida transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Saturday, August 19, 2017 in Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare.

Mrs. Dudley retired from Correctional Mental Health Institution as a Correctional Officer. She was a member of Saint Peter Missionary Baptist Church of Sneads. To know her was to love her.

The Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 AM CST from the sanctuary of the Saint Peter Missionary Baptist Church of Sneads located at 7989 McKeown Mill Road in Sneads, Florida 32460 with the Reverend Dr. Adrian D. Abner, pastor/teacher, officiating. Interment in Sunset Garden in Grand Ridge, Florida. Vann Funeral Home in charge.

Carl Edward Edenfield

Carl Edward Edenfield

Mr. Carl Edward Edenfield, 71, of Apple Valley, California passed from this life peacefully with his loving wife at his side.  He was born on January 22, 1946 in Jackson County, Florida to the late Mack and Dosha (Dudley) Edenfield.

Carl was a resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia for many years before moving to Apple Valley, California in 2016.  He was a United States Navy veteran serving in the Vietnam Conflict.  After his graduation from Grand Ridge High School in 1964 he joined the United States Navy and began his dedicated work for our country.  During this time, he served tours of duty on the US Coral Sea, US Kennedy, US Eisenhower and US Saratoga with Squadrons VF151, VF32, VF143, and VF121.  After twenty-four and a half years of dedication to the US Navy, he retired on August 25, 1988.

He is preceded in death by five brothers; Raymond, Howard, Bull, Donald and Lee Edenfield; five sisters, Irene Mumford, Voncile Parker, Laverne Edenfield, Cawien Wilson and Gwen Blocker; and his mother in law Laura Maucieri.

Carl is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Dusty Lee Edenfield; two sons, Michael Edward Edenfield and wife Lynn of Virginia Beach, VA and Brent Allen Edenfield and Morgan of Worcester, MA; four grandchildren Zachery Dove-Brown, Brandon Edenfield, Marley Edenfield and Olivia Edenfield all of Virginia Beach, VA; one brother, Ronald Edenfield and wife Doris of Grand Ridge, FL; two sisters, Maxine Morris and husband “Pug” of Cottondale, FL and Ima Jean Banks and husband Billy of Grand Ridge, FL; a special sister in law Nancy Tracy of Apple Valley, CA and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements to be announced at a later date.

Mr. James Otis Roche, 85 of Flint, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 21, 2017 in the Jackson Hospital of Marianna, Florida. 

He was born on September 9, 1931 in Washington County, Florida to the late Pat Roche and Hazel Jenkins Roche.  He was a native of Vernon, Florida but later moved to Flint, Michigan.  

He leaves to cherish his memories a son:  Wyatt Anthony Roche and his wife, Tasha, of Vernon, Florida; along with many other relatives and friends. 

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 5-8 P.M. CST in the Cooper Funeral Home Chapel of Chipley, Florida.  Funeral and Committal Services will take place in Flint, Michigan.

Linda B. Ponds, 68 of Orlando, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 21, 2017 in the Emerald Coast Center of Ft. Walton Beach, FL.  

She was born on June 14, 1949 in Chipley, Florida to the late James and Madras Lee.  She was a native of Chipley, Florida, but later moved to Lake City, Florida where she was employed with the State of Florida as a Social Worker Supervisor.  Upon her health failing her she moved to Orlando, Florida with her son, Torey whom she loved dearly.  

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving son:  Torey Ponds of Orlando, FL; three sisters: Wanda Lee, Tammy Lee, and Pastor Barbara Lee, all of Chipley, FL; three brothers:  Donnie Lee (Linda) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Anthony Lee of Atlanta, GA, and James Lee (Dorie) of Pomona, CA; five grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Missionary Gwendolyn Potter, 64 of Lynn Haven, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 20th in McDonough, GA.  

She was born on July 8, 1955 in Tampa, FL to the late Dozell Real and Flossie Lee Jones Real.  She was a raised in the Browns Temple F.B.C. and later became a member of the Williams Temple F.B.C. under the leadership of her husband, Jr. Bishop W.A. Potter, Sr.  

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband of 42 years:  Jr. Bishop W.A. Potter, Sr., of Lynn Haven, FL; three daughters:  Remather Williams of Decatur, GA, Candice Potter of San Pedro, CA, and Therica Campbell (Terrance) of Birmingham, AL; two sons:  Jonathan Potter of Panama City, FL, and Willie A. Potter, Jr. (Bobbie) of McDonough, GA; nine grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends. 

Home Going Services will be held 11 A.M. CST, Saturday, August 26th at The Rock of Panama City, FL with Bishop Randy Williams and Elder Bradford Johnson, officiating.  Committal Services will follow in the St. Luke Memorial Gardens of Vernon, FL with the Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley, FL, directing.
