Mr. Bobbie Jo Slater age 69 of Marianna passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017. He was born on November 6, 1947 in Louisiana to Wilton Morris Slater and Juvela LaCase Slater. Bobbie has been a resident of Marianna since last year, coming from Ashville, Alabama. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Bobbie was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilton Morris Slater Jr. and John Edwin Slater. He is survived by his wife Betty Jo Slater; children, Joseph Slater (Nance), Jennifer Phillips (Frankie), Christopher Slater, Melanie Becker (Eric), and Sloan Blackman (Renee); brothers Jimmy Ray Slater (Maria) and Gus Richard Slater; grandchildren, Savannah (Daniel), Cody (Sarah), Justin (Stephanie), Hannah, Cannon, Chase, Symone, Garret, Wes, and one great-grandchild Colton.

Funeral services for Bobbie will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Damascus Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Ezra Caynor officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Patricia McClain Ward, age 72, of Marianna, FL transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on April 3, 2017 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

Mrs. Ward was a member of the Ever-Increasing Word of Faith.

Homegoing Celebration of Life services were held Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 12:00 Noon from the sanctuary of the Second West Baptist Association located at 4110 Herring Street Marianna Florida with Bishop Flavious Pittman (pastor), Minister Ken Granger, the Reverend Leroy Hall officiating. Interment was in the Bethlehem Cemetery Vann Funeral Home in charge.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories:

Mr. Travis Durelle Works age 63 of Caryville, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Saturday May 6, 2017 at his residence in Caryville.

He is the brother of IFDF member, Gail Works, Christian Memorial Chapel, Graceville, Florida.

He graduated Holmes County High School, Bonifay, Florida, in 1981. He continued his education at Chipola College, Marianna, Florida, and was a mechanic by trade.

Travis was preceded in death by his father: Gus Works, Jr.; grandparents: Gus, Sr., and Tina Ola Johns Works and Carrie Newman; a nephew: Alexis Andrews and brother-in-law: Harry Lee Andrews; and most recently a brother Charles Allen Works (April 27, 2017). 

He is survived by his mother, Evangelist Ernestine Works; son and daughter: Bryan Works and Mercedes Peterson; grandchildren: Jaikyhia and Ja’Niya Peterson; brothers and sisters: Carolyn , Edward (Verna), Alvin (Ruth), Eric, Michael, June (James), Tyna (Michael), Carrie, Viola and Gail; nieces and nephews: Drexyl, Kyle, Samera, Edward Jr., Elise, Canese, Kimberly, Alanna, Jennifer, Ashlee, Bryan, Erica, Derek, Adrian, Jessica, Jyna, Simone, Michael, Michael Jr., Christyna, Mason, Valerie, Carlos, John, Jermaine, Vitoya, Vionca, Shannon and Sherone (Loraine); numerous great nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A dual celebration of life for him and his brother, Charles Allen Works, was held at 1 PM (CST), Saturday, May 6, 2017, in the Caryville Civic Center, Highway 279 South, Caryville, FL. He will be laid to rest in the Saint Mary AME Cemetery in Caryville, FL, along side his brother, Charles Allen Works who passed on April 27, 2017.

Ms. Alicia McKinnie, age 35, of Chipley, Florida passed away, Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at her home. Funeral Services will be 11 a. m., Saturday, May 13, 2017 at First Baptist Church located at 1300 South Blvd Chipley, FL, where Brother Mike Orr, is Pastor, Brother Matt Sawyer student pastor and Reverend Joe Tripp - eulogist officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation with McKinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton directing. 

Visitation will held from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. Friday, May 12th at The McKinnie Funeral Home Chapel. 

Life began for Alicia on August 25, 1981 in Landstuhl, Germany to Mary Alice McKinnie.  She loved the lord, her family, giving to others and helping whenever she could.  She was a 1999 graduate of Marianna High School.  She was employed as a manager at McDonalds at the time of her passing on May 3, 2017.

She was preceded in death by her Grandfather, J. C. Marshall McKinnie; her Great Grandmothers, Betty Louise Dickson and Willie Bea Brock; Great Grandfathers, Lucious Dudley and Perry Dickson Sr; her Uncle, George McKinnie; and her Aunt, Caroline McKinnie Great Uncle Perry Dickson II.

She leaves behind to cherish her precious memories,

Ms. Dorothy Camille Davis, 61, a native of Waynesboro, Georgia and resident of this area for the past forty years, passed away quietly at her home in Grand Ridge, Florida, Sunday, May 7, 2017.  Dorothy loved reading, gardening and especially enjoyed watching her favorite television show “Jeopardy”.  She took much pride in raising her children and spending time with her precious grandchildren. 

Dorothy is survived by her long-time loving companion, Billy Knight, Jr; two daughters, Carmen Davidson-Garner of Vernon, FL and Jennifer Manire of Hartford, AL;   three sons, John Ashley Weeks (Donna) of Bonifay, FL, Tyler Davidson of Grand Ridge, FL and TJ Davidson (Haley) of Grand Ridge, FL;   one brother, David Rogers of Aiken, SC; one sister, Mickey Patton, of Dunedin, FL; 20 precious grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

Dorothy was preceded in death by one brother Jack Rogers.

Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to Graveside Services on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM CDT at Cow Pen Pond Cemetery with Graveside and Interment Services beginning at 11:00 AM CDT with Rev. Steve Benefield officiating.

Katherine “Kathy” Thomas Dominey Hysmith, 66, left this world for her Heavenly Home on Sunday, May 7, 2017.

A graveside memorial service will be held for Kathy on Wednesday, May 10 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Campbellton Cemetery with Reverend Ruby Lawson officiating.

Known for her sweet smile, Kathy was born November 27, 1950 to Eddie Lee and Martha Elizabeth Thomas. The youngest of three children, Kathy looked up to her older siblings and especially loved spending time with her big sister Ann. She was blessed with four nieces whom she adored and helped raise. A kind heart for animals and children, Kathy loved all living things and always enjoyed spending time with her great-nieces and great-nephews as well as their animals.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Martha Thomas, her older brother Eddie Thomas, her husband Donnel “Don” Dominey, and her aunt Helen Dillard.

She is survived by her sister Ann Thomas Crum, four nieces Sherry (Gerald) Whitehead, Lisa (Steve) Ketchum, Beth Reed, Shannon (David) Evans, uncle Johnny Dillard, sister-in-law Myrl Thomas, and a host of great nieces and nephews as well as a special great niece Samantha (Dennis) Angerbrandt.

Minnie Merle Hart, 91 of Graceville, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Chapel of James & Lipford Funeral Home with Jerry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Marvin Chapel Cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, 10 a.m. until time of Service.

Ms. Merle was born in Esto, FL on November 11, 1925 to the late Henry Warren and Katie Daniel Thweatt. Ms Merle worked along with her family on the farm and also was a waitress for many years.

Predeceased by her parents, infant son Charles Allen Hart, brother Clyde Thweatt, two sisters Bernice Brock and Maudie Miles.

Survived by two children James Hart, Lina Allen; nine grandchildren Diane Peacock, Judy Abercrombie, Ronnie Peacock, Michelle Peacock, Jerry Hart, Sabrina Blalock, Holly Walker, Jamie Hart, Jennifer Lunsford; fourteen great grandchildren Celina Crenshaw, Scott Prejean, Jeremy Habitz, Corey Blalock, Devin Walker, Savanna Peacock, Courtney Blalock, Macala Peacock, Rita Selba, Jerry Hart, Jr., Adela Rivas, Brianna Valdez, Asianna Hart, Jocelyne Willis; twelve great grandchildren Tyler, Cassie, Jaxson, Logan, Bailey, Chad, Aslynn, Hailey, Bryant, Alauna, Elijah, Kyler.

John Wesley “J.W.” Dilmore

John Wesley “J.W.” Dilmore age 78 of Alford passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. He was born on April 19, 1939 in Jackson County to the late William Carl Dilmore and Willie Edna Taylor Dilmore.  J.W. was a veteran of the United States Navy. He worked for the United States Postal Service for forty-two years before retiring as a Postmaster. J.W. was a past Deacon and Sunday School teacher of Cypress Creek Community Church for over forty-five years. He was also the Commander of the American Legion Post 302 of Alford, a founder of the First Capital Bank in Marianna, and also the longtime operator of the Dilmore Grist Mill.

J.W. was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Edward Dilmore and Lelend Dilmore, and one sister, Joan Gardener. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-six years, Annie Sue Dilmore; children, Emory Jay Dilmore (Debbie) of Tallahassee, and Zanda Sue Warren (Jim) of Alford; sister Glenda Duncan (Joe) of Cottondale. J.W. is also survived by five grandchildren, Zoee, Audrey, Brad, Nick, and Amanda; two great-grandchildren, Makenzie Herzing and Brayden Herzing.

Funeral services for J.W. will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 in the Cypress Creek Community Church at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Ward and Brother Joey Woodruff officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the church.

Ronald “Ronny” Bennett, age 74 of Sneads, Florida passed away on May 10, 2017 following a brief illness.  Born in Marianna, Florida Ronny was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. For many years he drove a truck and ran his own mechanic shop.  Ronny enjoyed hunting and racing his cars.  He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved his “Fords”.  Ronny was a genuine caring and compassionate man who dearly loved children.  Most of all he loved helping those less fortunate than he and seeing the smile on their faces as the need was met.

Ronny was preceded in death by his parents L.E. Bennett and Euratha Balf; a sister, Ramona Baker and a brother Don Bennett.

Ronny is survived by his precious wife of 51 years Sharon Bennett; a daughter, JoAnn Jackson and husband Jimmy of Tallahassee, FL; two sons, Michael Bennett of Tallahassee, FL and Shane Bennett and his wife Claudia of Clarkesville, FL; one sister, Carole Beckstein of St. Petersburg, FL; three grandchildren, Tori Bennett, Kendra Bennett, Brady Jackson and one great grandchild, Renleigh Stewart.  Ronny is also survived by his faithful canine companion “Sassy” the dog.

Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to Memorial Services on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 6:00 PM CDT at Lanier – Andler Funeral Home Chapel with Memorial Services beginning at 6:00 PM CDT with Rev. Allan Austin officiating.

Mr. William Holeman Turner, 64, born in Quincy, Florida, living in Sneads, Florida all his life, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017, in Marianna, Florida.  He had retired as a Correctional Officer with Apalachee Correctional Institution in Sneads, Florida.  Bill really loved his music and was very brilliant at solving crossword puzzles.  He was also Past President of the J Cs.

Bill is survived by his beloved son, Michael Turner and his fiancé Stephanie both of Sneads, Florida;  a brother, James Robert “Bob” Newman of Sneads;  also four nephews whom he loved very much, Bobby Herndon of Ocala, Florida,  Billy Herndon of Odessa, Florida,  Josh Smith of Sycamore, Florida and Adam Smith also of Sycamore.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Holeman Shaw and Mary Frances Turner and two sisters, JoAnn Metcalf and Linda Holloway.

Visitation with the family will take place one hour before services  Sunday afternoon, May 14, 2017, followed by Memorial Services at 2:00 PM CST, all at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home Chapel in Sneads, Florida.  The family would love for you to attend.

She was a native of Port St. Joe, FL, member of Port St. Joe Church of God in Christ, and retired from Piggly Wiggly. She was 1972 graduate of Port St. Joe High School.

Susie Marie Hamilton Harris, 87, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2017.

Marie was born on September 24, 1929 at home in rural Jackson County to Brady and Elizabeth Hamilton. She was a lifelong resident and homemaker in Grand Ridge, Fl. Marie was well known for her intricately detailed and beautifully handmade quilts, as well as her multi-layered homemade chocolate cakes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Brady and Elizabeth Hatcher Hamilton; brothers, Willard, Howard, and Wallace Hamilton; sisters, Audrey Grice, Bernice Cooper, and Patsy Tieman; son, Carlos Harris; son-in-law, Lynwood Baxter; and great-granddaughter, Bethany Faith Baxter.

Marie is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Baxter of Malone, and Florene Watford (Bobby) of Hickory, NC; one son, Larry Harris (Sarah) of Sneads; eight grandchildren, Lynn Carr (Michael John) and Jim Bob Baxter (Heather) of Malone; Suzanne Sculley (Scott) and Lori Faust (Scott) of Hickory, NC; Robby Harris (Sierra) and Keesha Childs (Allen) of Grand Ridge; James and Josh Watford; four sisters, Ruby Brock (John) and Nada Wetherington of Quincy; Theresa Amison (David) of Apalachicola; and Marilyn Hamilton of Tallahassee; one brother, Robert Hamilton of Panama City; daughter-in-law, Wenona Stephens and special cousin, Margie Hamilton of Grand Ridge; 27 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vereny Corley age 99 of Sneads/Grand Ridge area passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Jackson County on March 24, 1918 to the late Bejamin Peacock and Mittie Grace Daniels Peacock. Vereny attended Damascus Freewill Baptist Church.

 Vereny was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, two children, two sisters, one brother, and one grandchild. She is survived by children, Mable Smith, Dorcus Bamburg, Clinton Stephens (Delores), and Gerald Stephens (Kaye); eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, seven great -great- grandchildren, and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

 Funeral services for Ms. Corley will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Reverend Robert Johns officiating. Interment will follow in the Dykes Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Addis and Murtis Hobbs.

She married her love, Johnnie L. Wilkinson, and moved to Miami where they raised their three children. The couple retired to the Florida country-side where they were very happy.

 Clyde was married to her beloved husband for 56 years before he passed in 2004. She is also predeceased by her brothers; Rudolph and Vonde Sellers; sister, Webolene Rustin; granddaughter, Tiffany Wilkinson; and son-in-law, William Fair. She leaves her loving children, Dewayne Wilkinson (Bonnie), Denise Fair, and Carol Edge; sister and brother-in-law, Laquitta and Rev. John Sanders of Dothan, AL; grandchildren, Christopher Wilkinson, Andrea Norden (Tony), Jonathan Fair, Tyler Edge (Ashley) and Malorie Edge; and several great- and great-great grandchildren.

  The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on May 20, 2017 at New Providence Baptist Church in Slocomb, AL

 Funeral services will be directed by Williams Funeral Home of Graceville. Expressions of sympathy can be made at Williams Funeral Home.

Carlie James Law, 61, of Greenwood died Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at his residence. 

Carlie was born in Sebring, Florida to the late J. L. and Vesta Ashley Law. He is survived by his wife, Jill M. Law of Greenwood; one brother, Jay Law of Cottondale; three sisters, Audrey Yelvingtgon of Winter Haven, Carol Strickland of Alpharetta, GA, Robbie Samples of Cumming, GA; several nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel. Memorialization will be by cremation with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in charge of arrangements.
