Nell George Marlow died February 18, 2017 in Spring Hill, Florida. Nell was born in Bonifay, Florida, in a year kept closely secret, as she wished to be measured not by years but by her joy and zest for life. Her children will honor that wish. She was the loving daughter of Sallie George, with whom she shared her Chipley, Florida home and life until Sallie’s death in 1986.

She married Air Force Major Albert Charles Marlow in 1948 (deceased 1974), moving to follow his military career, then returning to the Florida Panhandle where she lived until 2010. She subsequently married Fred A Arledge (deceased 2014) in November, 1989, and they happily toured the USA together. Nell moved to Birmingham, Alabama to be with family in 2010 and then to Spring Hill, Florida in 2015 to be with family. She was preceded in death by her mother Sallie Bell Tyler George, her father William Hampton George, her five dearly loved and loving brothers, Millard, Woodrow, Bill, Bob and Buford George. Survivors include her daughter Michele Marlow Thomas (Cornelius Bullard Thomas), son Michael Marlow (Rebecca Register Marlow), grandsons Drayton Michael Thomas and Joseph Michael Marlow (Heather Holloman Marlow), great-grandchildren Ryleigh Jo Marlow and Maxwell Cash Marlow. She treasured her extended family of numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and her greatest joy was always family. The love for and commitment to family and God were the core foundations of her life.

Nell always enjoyed competition and a challenge, whether innovation for school festivities, organizing events for her extended George family, playing bridge, opening a small business dress shop, running for county office, working as a supervisor in a state program, or beginning a hobby of horseback riding after retirement. Nell was a passionate golfer, playing almost daily in the last 30 years of her life. Her great gifts to her children were her constant, unconditional love, her profound commitment to family and her conviction that dreams could be achieved with hard work and perseverance.

Celebration of her life will be Saturday, 12 Noon, March 18, 2017 at Bethany Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Browning officiating.
