Magdaline G. Rosado

Magdaline G. Rosado, 66, of Bascom, FL died Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Magdaline resided in Jackson County, FL for 46 years where she was employed as a Deli manager for many years with Piggly Wiggly until they closed. She later worked for Bill Smith Greenwood Supermarket and Malone IGA, where she retired. She was a loving mother of four children and many other children that called her mom. Magdaline was loved by so many family and friends. She was a loving wife for 48 years to David Rosado.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Rosado; her parents, Ruby Gray and Albert Gray and loving sister, Evelyn Walker.

She is survived by four children, Marie Ham and husband, Troy Lamar Ham Jr. of Bascom; one daughter, Christin Ham Sawyer and husband, Dustin Sawyer of Bascom, David Rosado of Orlando, FL, Anthony Rosado Langley and husband, Scott Cameron Langley of Palmar, Alaska, Joseph Rosado and wife, Melanie Rosado; two grandsons, Daulton Rosado and Dillion Rosado of Kannapolis, NC along with three sisters, five brothers, several nieces and nephews.

Our family would like to thank DaVita of Dothan and DaVita of Marianna for all the love, support and care you all gave not only to our loving mother but to us as well. You will always be part of our family. Thank you friends and family for loving her.

Memorialization will be by cremation with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Henry W. Miller

Henry W. Miller age 82 of Donalsonville, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. He was born on September 15, 1936 in Jakin, Georgia and was previously a resident of Tallahassee, Florida and Pensacola, Florida. He worked as an executive for State Farm. Henry was an avid FSU fan and a big supporter of the Seminole Boosters. 

Henry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Florence Miller; wife, Walla M. Miller; granddaughter, Christine Stubbs and two brothers. He is survived by son Mike miller (Marie) of Royston, Georgia; daughters, Cheryl Stubbs (Pat Hollis) of Marianna, Florida and Marie Thompson (Steve) of Statesboro, Georgia; brothers, Frank Miller (LaRue) of Edison, Georgia and Jimmy Miller (Norma Hornsby) of Donalsonville, Georgia; sister, Lillian Gallatin (John Barber) of Columbus, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Pam Miller of Donalsonville, Georgia and Sharon Miller of Donalsonville, Georgia; grandchildren, Sarah Stubbs of Tallahassee, Florida, Zach Thompson of Statesboro, Georgia, and Scott Canfield of Lavonia, Georgia. 

Funeral Services for Henry will be held at 3:00 p.m. CST on Sunday, September 23, 2018 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Horne officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

John R. Jackson

John R. Jackson, 72, of Marianna, FL died Thursday, September 20, 2018 peacefully at home.

Mr. Jackson has resided in Jackson County for the past 32 years where he has worked and served his community in various positions and ministered as a pastor for eight years at Sneads Free Will Baptist. He also served as a fill-in preacher for all the churches in the Salem Association.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Wade Moneyman; two brothers, Randy Moneyman and Michael David Moneyman; and one sister, Rebecca Sammons.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Barbara Jackson; two daughters, Kimberly Trant (William) of Hartford, AL and Tracy Garnes (Kevin Sorrells) of Chipley, FL; three sisters, Vernie Vipperman (Bob) of Blacksburg, SC; Kay Check (Steve) of Simpsonville, SC and Sharon Childers (Ricky) of Spartanburg, SC; four grandchildren, Patrista Simmons (Charlie Summerlin), Sierra Jones (Bradley), Travis Trant (Dina) and Tara Trant; six great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be 3 pm Monday, September 24, 2018 at Damascus Free Will Baptist Church in Marianna, FL. Interment will follow at Sims Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church.

William A. “Billy” Campbell Sr.

Mr. William A. “Billy” Campbell Sr., 73, a longtime resident of Chattahoochee, Florida passed away on Friday, September 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Billy loved his shop and loved to mechanic in his shop.  He enjoyed helping others and always tried to meet their needs, no matter the obstacle.  He cherished his precious wife Wanda Sue and loved his family and friends dearly. Billy was retired from the City of Chattahoochee as Maintenance Supervisor and Fire Department Chief.  He was a beloved husband, son, father and grandfather.  Billy will be deeply missed by his family, and many friends made throughout the years.

Billy is survived by his precious wife of 52 years, Wanda Sue Campbell; one daughter, Audrey Williams and her husband Ken; one son, Bill Campbell and his wife Lali; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a special friend Vince Mayo.

Billy was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Campbell and mother, Elouise Jones Campbell.

The family would like to acknowledge Big Bend Hospice for the attentive care and support given during this most difficult time and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Big Bend Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

David Ewell Bass

David Ewell Bass, 83 of Graceville, Poplar Springs Community, passed away Friday, September 21, 2018 at Northwest Florida Community Hospital. 

David was born on March 27, 1935 in Holmes County to the late William Edrie “Buster” Bass and Ruth Estelle Kelley. A 1953 graduate of Poplar Springs High School, David was drafted into the U.S. Army. He then worked with Gold Kist Peanut and Registers Dairy. He started working in construction with Slingluff, West Florida Enterprises and Horton’s Construction for a number of years. David eventually went out on his own along with his boy’s and was known for his detail in painting and carpentry. A Dad and “Pawpaw” such as David, leaves his mark in the world through the love he gives his children and grandchildren. David will be missed not only by them, but by everyone who knew him.

 A Home-going service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the Chapel of James & Lipford Funeral Home with Bro. Raymond O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow in Brown-Bush-Tindel Cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville Directing.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

 Preceded in death by his parents, one son Edrie and one brother Tommy Bass.

 He is survived by his beloved wife Frances Bass, Todd Bass(Tara), Graceville, David Bass(Jennifer), Noma, Mechele Bass(Greg Bush), Graceville, Shannon Bass Kukla(LTC Matthew Kukla) Huntsville, AL, Michael Bass(Jamie), Graceville; seventeen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Sandra J. Marell, 59, of Bonifay died Sunday, September 23, 2018 at her residence.

She was born in Fort Knox, Kentucky but had lived most of her life in the Bethlehem Community of Holmes County, Florida. She was a 1977 Graduate of Bethlehem High School, a graduate of Chipola College School of Nursing and was employed for more than 35 years with North West Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.

Sandra was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Finnis Justice Sr. and Bessie Justice;  her maternal grandparents, Hubert Smith and Perry Lee Smith. Survivors include her husband, Wendal Marell; her parents, Finis and Annette Justice;  sister, Wanda J. Stafford (Earl);  brother, Alan Justice (Alison); neices and nephews, Tara Alford (Bret), Jade Morton (Caleb), Sabrina Dickerman (Alex), Emilie Justice, Kara Grace Justice, David Marell (Barbara), Eric Marell (Kristen), River Roberts (Morgon);  great-neices, Kiyann Alford and Kenna Alford; several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Union Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Carson Fender and Rev. Jonathan West officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Methodist Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.  

Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at Union Hill Baptist Church.

Nora Jean Brown

On Sunday, September 17, 2018, while in the serenity and comfort of Bay Medical Center in Panama City, surrounded by her loving and caring family, God dispatched the Angel of Death to relay a message to Mrs. Nora Jean Brown, 64, of Panama City, Florida., saying “I see your road is rough, and the hill is getting too steep. Come rest your head upon My breast, your soul I will keep.”

Mrs. Nora Jean Brown was born on Sunday, April 4, 1954 in Blountstown, Florida to the late Marie Bennett Battles and James Roulhac.  Nora Jean was raised by her grandparents, the late Leah and Jerry Martin of Blountstown, Florida.

Nora Jean was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Harold Brown. She was employed with Bay Medical Center in the Housekeeping Department until her health failed.

 Nora Jean had four sisters and brothers preceded her in death, Audrey Mae Battles, Margaret Battles, Eddie Lou Batey and Rosey Bennett, Willie Lee Battles, Eddie Sam Battles, Richard Battles and Robert Battles.

Nora Jean leaves behind one daughter, Wanda Roulhac and a special friend to look to her as a son-in-law, David Mitchell; one brother, Thedo Battles. Nora Jean had several special friends: Mrs. Ollie Mar Bright, Mr. Kenny Stanley, Mrs. Burnette Andrews and Mrs. Diamond Solomon. Mrs. Brown leaves one sister-in-law: Mrs. Sally Batey; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 PM (CST), Saturday, September 29, 2018, in the Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1520 Louisiana Avenue, Panama City, FL with the Reverend Bruce Taylor, officiating, under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Raymond C. Phillips

Raymond C. Phillips, age 87, passed away peacefully, on September 14, 2018. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Joanne (Ernst) Phillips; and brother, John Phillips. Ray is survived by six children, Gregory (Sally) Phillips, Karen (Edward) Andross, Lisa (Andrew) Spittal, Wendy (Anthony) Rayner, Jennifer (Steven) Welch and Martha (Jeffrey) Vickery; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister, Arlene Phillips.

Ray was born in Rochester and was the son of Raymond and Verna (Bowerman) Phillips. Growing up in the Fishers area, Ray graduated from Victor Central School in 1949, and earned an architectural degree from Cornell University in 1954. As a participant in ROTC, he became a pilot in the US Navy serving four years of active duty, and retiring at the rank of Commander in the Navy Reserve after twenty years. After completing his active duty service, he spent twenty years helping with the family dairy, livestock, and crop farm in Farmington before returning to his chosen field of architecture. During this time, he also served the Town of Farmington for a number of years as a Zoning Officer and as a member of the Planning Board. Upon earning state engineering certification, he became self-employed, designing residences and engineering additions and redesigns for countless residential and commercial customers.

Ray was a dedicated husband and father. He had a passion for music, and played saxophone throughout high school, college, and adult life in various bands and was a charter member of the Finger Lakes Wind Ensemble. He enjoyed woodworking in his limited spare time and crafted many beautiful pieces for family and friends. Ray had a quick wit and firm principles, and will be sorely missed. 

In accordance with Ray’s wishes, there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 3040 Co. Rd. 10, Canandaigua, NY 14424. Arrangements are by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., Canandaigua. Condolences may be offered at www.johnsonkennedy.com.

Everett Wayne Poole

Everett Wayne Poole, 68, of the Dellwood Community died Monday, September 24, 2018 at his residence.

He was born in Seminole County Georgia, but lived most of his life in Dellwood. He spent many years as a diesel mechanic with the Jackson County School System until his retirement. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Everett Poole and Lois Powell Poole.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda J Poole of Dellwood; one son, Everett Wayne Poole Jr. of Dellwood; 3 daughters, Shannon P. Lollie and husband, Greg of Grand Ridge, Michelle Powell of Sneads, Joy Martin and husband, Chris of Sneads; six grand children ; 4 great-grand children.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Welcome Assembly of God Church in Dellwood with Pastor Steven Subel officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Howard Odom

Howard Odom

November 13, 1926 - September 24, 2018

Howard is a native Alabamian, born near Ashford in Houston County, which adjoins Jackson County, Florida. He is the son of Henry and Lula Odom and is a graduate of Ashford High School. He met and married his beautiful bride, Eunice Ingram, in 1945 then joined the merchant marines and reported to Camp Polk in the U.S. Army in March of 1946 during World War 2.  

He and his wife moved to Marianna in 1951 and established a monument business, Odom Vault and Memorial. They had two children, Butch and Sandra. He was a dedicated family man and eventually became a successful business man. 

He promoted the need for conservation education in Florida Schools and served on the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission where he was chairman in 1972. Howard was a member and secretary of the former Florida Board of Parks and Historic Memorials, appointed by Governor Leroy Collins.  He served two terms as president of the Marianna Jackson County Chamber of Commerce and 6 years on the Jackson County Board of Commissioners. He was appointed to the governing board of the Northwest Florida Water Management district in 1977.  He was a founding member of both the Marianna Optimist Club. He was a Mason, a Shriner, a Lion, an Elk, a US Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion. He also served on the Committee of Natural Resources and Conservation and a board member of the Florida Water Management District.

Howard was a dedicated family man with hobbies that included aviation, fishing, hunting, business and politics. He was a passionate sportsman and truly appreciated the outdoors that offered recreation, fellowship and friendship. He was the cornerstone to his family and a friend to anyone who walked in his door. Always faithful to friends and family and an ever present father figure that will be remembered for his generosity and selflessness. 

Preceded in death by his parents Henry and Lula Odom and daughter Sandra Odom Stewart; brothers: A.B. Odom and Espy Odom and Sisters: Bonceil Arnold, Willie Mae Ingram, and Kate Cunningham.

Surviving relatives include his wife of 72 years Eunice Ingram Odom; son, John Howard “Butch” Odom and wife Bunny; Grandchildren: Steven Lamar Stewart II and wife, Darla (Kegan, Kyle, Caroline, Steven III), April Odom Alday and husband, Joseph (Beau and Juliette), Christopher Michael Stewart (Stephanie and her son Brylan), Natacha Odom Phillips and husband, Ken (Audra and Trett), Benjamin Howard Odom and wife, Amanda (Eleanor and Oliver), Jeffrey Odom Stewart and wife, Nicole (Lauren) all from Marianna.  Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 10 am Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 6-8 pm at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.

Ervin S. Mathis, Jr.

Mr. Ervin S. Mathis, Jr. of Marianna and formerly of Sneads, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 21st in Jackson Hospital.  He was 37 years old.

 A native of Jackson County, he was of the Methodist faith and a member of Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church.  He was a 2001 graduate of Sneads High School and was presently employed at Wal-Mart as an Overnight Support Manager.  

  Precious memories will forever remain with: his faithful wife, She’ree Lewis Mathis of Marianna, Florida; two sons, Elijah and Noah Mathis both of Marianna, Florida; father, Ervin Mathis, Sr. of Sneads, Florida; three brothers, Demorrio Lovett of Tallahassee, Florida, Venice Mathis of Sneads, Florida and Doreck Weston (Lori) of Marianna, Florida; paternal grandmother, Arletha Mathis of Sneads, Florida, four uncles, Anthony Mathis of Sneads, Florida, Morgan Spears (Mary) of Chattahoochee, Florida, Jimmy Weston and Bobby Weston both of Tallahassee, Florida; eight aunts, Minister Patricia Mathis of Chattahoochee, Florida, Willie Ruth Allen, Ann Spears both of Sneads, Florida, Dianne Fletcher of Bristol, Florida, Mary Mathis of Grand Ridge, Florida, Lula Mae Weston, Bobbie Weston both of Tallahassee, Florida and Annie Weston of Havana, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Felicia Lewis Snowden of Marianna, Florida and Stacy Turner (John) of Bascom, Florida; and a host of  nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

 A viewing for Ervin will be held Friday at Peoples Funeral Home Chapel from 2-6p.m. 

 A homegoing celebration for Ervin’s life will be held Saturday, September 29th at 1:00p.m. at Springfield African Methodist Episcopal Church with Pastor Hollis McClendon, Prophet James Clark, Minister Patricia Mathis, Reverend Arlester McCalister and Reverend James Dickson officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.

 Ervin’s remains will lie-in-repose for one hour prior to the 1:00p.m. funeral time at Springfield on Saturday.

Charles Case

Charles C. Case, 43, of Marianna, Florida passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 in Gainesville, Florida.  He was born December 27, 1974 in Gainesville, Florida.  He grew up in Marianna.  Charles was a Certified Veterinary Assistant and a very successful dog trainer.  He loved working with animals; it was his true passion.  He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Leonard and Nila Mae Stephens of Marianna, Florida.  He is survived by his mother, Linda Davis and step-father John Mooneyham, of Marianna, Florida; one son Chad Case and mother, Christina Case of Cairo, Georgia; sister Bobbie Davis (Randy Keene) of Marianna, Florida; sister Julie Davis O’Bryan of Dothan, Alabama; brothers Terry Stephens of Barstow, California and John R. Davis of Marianna, Florida; nephew, Ethan Keene, nieces Nila Keene and Ava Davis of Marianna, Florida; long time dear friend Vicki Fuqua of Marianna, Florida. Charles is also survived by a host of Aunts, Uncles and cousins who all loved him and will miss him dearly.

 A native of Nashville, GA, Mrs. Pelt resided in Wesley Place, Assisted Living, in Dothan, AL for the past 8 years.  

 She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Chester H Pelt, Sr. and her brother Rev. James Ollin Watson.

 Survivors include her son, Chester H Pelt, Jr. (Susan) of Ashford, AL; two grandchildren, Jason (Tracee) Pelt and Jeffrey (Paola) Pelt and 6 great grandchildren.

Marvine Humphrey Williams

Mrs. Marvine Humphrey Williams age 82, of Chipley, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Monday September 24, 2018 in Chipley, Florida. 

Mrs. Williams was born June 5, 1936 in Headland, Alabama. She departed this earthly life on September 24, 2018 after an extended illness. She was a very loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

She demonstrated love through her profession as a child care provider for many years. She took great joy in caring for her family and her walk with Christ. She married the love of her life, Mr. Willie James Williams on December 15, 1968.

She was preceded in death by several special loved one, her parents the late Marvin Humphrey and Lillie Mae Daniels Floyd (Willis); daughter: Velma Jean Humphrey; brother: Frankie Lee Floyd (Rose); grandson: O’Patrick Humphrey and a son-in-law: Alfred Grundy.

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband of fifty years: Mr. Willie James Williams of Jacksonville, Florida; children: Beverly Grundy of Headland, Alabama, and Jerry Humphrey (Sharlene) of Panama City, Florida; sisters Nell Brantley of Headland, Alabama and Marva Jean Ferrell (Darius) of Fayetteville, North Carolina and a brother, Willie Oscar Humphrey (Catherine) of Headland, Alabama; grandchildren: Devon Culver and Yolanda Scebbi of Headland, Alabama and Shawn Culver (Anamarie) of Kinsey, Alabama; great grandchildren: Alyssa, Enza, Tyler and Christian; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Although we are saddened by her passing, we rejoice in knowing the she is in a land “where she’ll never grow old.” Farewell, Mrs. Williams, you were tired and needed your rest. You were called forth by God, and your soul was truly blessed. We will not weep and mourn  because we don’t see you on this side anymore. We know that you’ll be waiting to meet us on the other shore.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 1:00 P. M. at the Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Headland, Alabama, Pastor/Teacher Delvick McKay and the Reverend Bernard Vickers will be the eulogist.

Her earthly bed of slumber will follow in the church cemetery and under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Ms. Brenda Joyce McKay, affectionately called “Binky” of Dothan, Alabama, formerly of Marianna, Florida, transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Saturday, September 22, 2018, in Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

Funeral services for Ms. Brenda McKay was held Saturday, September 29, 2018, at 11 A.M. at Sunrise Worship Center, located at 2645 Pebble Hill Road, Marianna, Florida 32448.  

Interment was in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Malone, Florida.

Vann Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The viewing was held Friday, September 28, 2018, from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M at Vann Funeral Home.

Dr. Doris B. Herring of Bascom, Florida transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Sunday, September 16, 2018 in Jackson Hospital, Marianna, Florida. 

She was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church of Marianna, Florida and New Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Bascom, Florida.

Funeral service for Dr. Doris B. Herring was held Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Vann Funeral Home Chapel, located at 4265 Saint Andrews Street, Marianna, FL 32448. The Rev. Wallace Bowers, Rev. Warren L. Bowers and Dr. Mirion P. Bowers, Presiding.

Vann Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Herring was in repose at Vann Funeral Home Chapel from 10:00 A.M. until time for the service.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories, a loving and devoted family:

3 Grandchildren: Patrick Herring II and Savannah Herring both of Charlotte, NC

4 Brothers: Horace (Alice) Bowers, Andrew Jr (Doris) Bowers, Dr. Mirion (Geraldine) Bowers all Los Angeles, CA and Rev. Wallace (Lois) Bowers of Tampa, FL

1 Sister: Glynette B. Bowers of Bascom, FL

Bonnie Laramore Vilicic

Bonnie Laramore Vilicic , 74, of Marianna, Fl passed to the next life Friday, September 28, 2018 in her home. 

She was born in Marianna, Fl on August 18, 1944.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Audie and Lillian Laramore; husband “Vic” Vilicic, and brother, Julian Laramore.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet Lowry (Henry) of Jay, Fl; son, Mike Fellows (Barbara) of Alachua, Fl; grandchildren, Krystal Lowry, Jennifer Lowry and Katelyn Fellows; two sisters, Nita Prinz, and Kathy Rehberg (Don); two brothers, Gordan Laramore (Virginia), Herman Laramore, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 1, 2018, at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Virgil Lipford and Gino Mayo officiating.  Interment will follow at Lipford Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 30, 2018 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Rose Ella (Ellington) Johnson

Rose Ella Johnson, 91, of Marianna, FL, passed away early Saturday morning, August 4, 2018 at Jackson Hospital.  She has been a resident of Marianna, FL since May 2009.

Rose was born on July 13, 1927 in Atlanta, GA to Bennie Pope and Mary Fred (McCullough) Ellington.  Growing up, she lived in Thomaston, GA with her parents & three brothers.  Rose and her brothers grew up with numerous first cousins, as her Mother was one of 13 children.  Her closest first cousin being Betty Watson Ellington (89) of Atlanta, GA.  They grew up doing just about everything together as children, to include dressing alike and working in the same places as young adults.  Betty and Rose were more like sisters than cousins!  

Rose enjoyed the beach, sewing and dancing.  She also loved to play the piano and sing.  She was a member of two trios at the time of her high school graduation in 1945 from Robert E. Lee High School, Thomaston, GA.  While in high school she worked as a dental assistant and for a local jewelry store.  After graduation, her family moved to Orlando, FL where she worked for the GE Credit Agency.  During this time is when she met her husband, Oliver. Oliver was in the Air Force and stationed at what was then known as McCoy Air Force Base. Rose married Oliver Sheldon Johnson on August 13, 1955 in Orlando, FL; they were married 48 years.  Oliver spent 23 years in the Air Force as a crew chief on the B-52 bomber and flew numerous missions during WWII, Korea & Vietnam.

During Rose and Oliver’s time in the military, they moved to several places within the U.S., to include Guam.  Rose worked in Civil Service as an Executive Secretary to many Base Commanders.  After their military career, she and Oliver owned a successful pest control business for over 10+ years in Orlando.  During her late 60’s & 70’s, while living in Fort Walton Beach, she attended classes at Gulf Coast State College for music and voice lessons and participated in local performances sponsored by the college.

Rose enjoyed being a member of numerous organizations throughout her life.  Organizations she felt had an impact on others:  Hospice Volunteer; Order of the Amaranth; Daughters of the American Revolution (1996-2018) and a DAR Chapter Regent.

Rose was a gentle, loving Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother.  She was a Christian woman and enjoyed attending church when she was able and reading her Bible daily. She had a way of making those around her feel loved and special.  She was respected and loved by all who met her.

Rose was preceded in death by her loving husband, Oliver Johnson; her parents Bennie and Mary Fred Ellington and three brothers; Johnny, Bobby and Richard.

Rose is survived by her two children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with a great-granddaughter due in March 2019: son, Franklin Sheldon Johnson and daughter-in-law Christie Johnson, their children: Alex Johnson of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Bryan Johnson and wife Jessica (daughter, Addison Presley, due in March 2019) of Boynton Beach, FL; daughter, Susan Johnson Armstrong and husband, Clayton Armstrong of Marianna, FL and their children: twins Tyler and Katelyn, Stuart and wife Billie Jo Kortus (daughter, Haylie Jo ) of Hayden, ID, and Sean and wife Alicia (son, Landon James) of Southern Pines, NC.

Rose was in the care of the wonderful staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.  She was laid to rest alongside her husband, Oliver, at the Bay Pines VA National Cemetery, Saint Petersburg, FL.  A memorial for Rose will be held with close family and friends in October.

Margaret Decker

Margaret Decker, 73 of Marianna, joined family in heaven on Friday, September 28, 2018, after an extended illness.  She was born in Palm City, Florida on July 30, 1945 to Noah and Jean Ludlum. Margaret enjoyed growing up on the family farm with her five siblings. Margaret and her husband Harold moved to Marianna in 1980, where they raised their children and worked their business, Hal-Mar Masonry. She was a bus driver and convenience store manager for many years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband of 45 years, Harold Decker.

She is survived by her children, Anita Halling (Karl) of Grand Ridge, James Decker of San Antonio, Karen Braxton of Marianna; Grandsons, Billy Braxton, Eric Decker, Nikolas Halling, and Douglas Pippin; Granddaughters, Elizabeth Halling, Brianna Drummond, Britany Drummond; Extended children, Beth Scordato, Nicholas Decker (Deena), Jeff Decker (Lindy), Sandy Decker; several grand and great grandchildren.

A celebration of life in her honor will be held with family. 

James & Sikes Funeral Home will be handling arrangements.
