Mr. Hilton White, of Whitesville Community, Cottondale, FL, transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Friday, February 16, 2018 surrounded by his family. 

He was a member of the Bethlehem African Methodist Episcopal Church and employed by Florida State Hospital as a Rehab Therapist and Barber until his retirement.

Funeral service will be held Friday, February 23, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Bethlehem African Methodist Episcopal Church 3100 Lovewood Rd Cottondale, FL 32431 with Rev. Dr. Marvin Henderson, Evangelist Sam Gray, Prophet Billy White and Rev. Earl Hill Pastor, Officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Vann Funeral Home will be in charge of the service.

The viewing will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018 from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Vann Funeral Home.

Mr. White will lie in repose at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time for the service.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, a loving and devoted family:

Caleb Nicolas Toole, age 23 of Cottondale, passed from this life on February 17, 2018 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Florida.

Caleb was born on April 26, 1994 in Marianna, Florida to Travis Toole and Nikki Gore. A lifelong resident of the Florida panhandle, he was a 2012 graduate of Cottondale High School and a member of Friendship Assembly of God Church.

He was preceded in death by his father-in-law: John Gwin.

He is survived by his wife: Chelsea Toole of Cottondale, Florida; father: David Toole and wife Sherry of Cottondale, Florida; mother: Nikki Yates and husband Jason Fears of Malone, Florida; two daughters: Allie and Taytum Toole of Cottondale, Florida; paternal grandparents: Travis and Glenda Toole of Graceville, Florida; maternal grandparents: Gerald and Joan Gore of Graceville, Florida; brother: Logan McCallister of Malone, Florida; five sisters: Lilli Toole of Cottondale, Florida, Maecie McCallister of Malone, Florida, Jamie Wade and husband Ricky of Cottondale, Florida, Karlie Whitehead and husband Tyeler of Cottondale, Florida, Deana Caudill of Graceville, Florida; mother-in-law: Crystal Gwin of Alford, Florida; three nieces: Adalynn Reeder of Cottondale, Florida, Rylee Wade of Cottondale, Florida, Hailey Wade of Cottondale, Florida; aunt: Carol Laycox of Graceville, Florida; numerous extended family and loved ones.

A celebration of life will be held 7P.M. Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Evangel Worship Center in Marianna, Florida with Pastor Gary Stephens officiating. Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida in charge of arrangements.

Dale Allen Hunter, 69, of Grand Ridge, died January 22, 2018 at his residence.

Dale was born March 2, 1948 in Cleveland, OH to Willard and Ruth Taylor Hunter. He served in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971. Dale is survived by his brother, Keith W. Hunter of Ohio.

A viewing and visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel. Memorialization will be by cremation with James & Sikes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Rodney Wayne Wright, 66, of Marianna, Florida, passed away Monday, February 19, 2018, at the Dozier Hospice House, Big Bend Hospice, Tallahassee, Florida.

He was proud of his Texas heritage, being born in Fort Worth and later living in El Paso and Dallas. He has resided in Jackson County for the last 29 years where he was self employed. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy having served a tour of duty during the Vietnam conflict. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Marianna, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Dorothy Wright. Survivors include his wife, Carol, from Marianna; one son, Brandon, of Tallahassee; two adopted daughters, Bethany Overholt of Marianna and Madeleine Haller of Dubai, United Arab Emirates; one brother, Steve, and his wife Ruthie of Wiley, Texas; two sisters, Jacquie Tate, and her husband, Mike, from Frisco, Texas, and Melinda Otzenberger and her husband, Jerry James, of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Wright is also survived by numerous beloved nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Eastside Baptist Church with Pastor John Rollyson officiating and James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM Saturday morning until service time at the church.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund for Eastside Baptist Church; the Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee, Florida; or Covenant Hospice in Marianna, Florida.

Ellis “Hamp” Christmas

Rev. Ellis “Hamp” Christmas, 92 of the Poplar Springs Community, Graceville, FL went home to be with the Lord, Monday, February 19, 2018.

Bro. Ellis, retired Chief Warrant Officer 3 of the U.S. Army, retired in 1966. He served over 21 years in both World War II and the Korean Conflict, where he received several accommodations and medals. He was a bi-vocational minister serving over the years in Jackson, Holmes and Washington Counties. He also retired from Continental Telephone known today as Verizon. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he taught the Adult II Sunday School Class.

A Home-going service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Bethel Baptist Church with Revs. Sam Totten, Mitchell Holsonback and Kent Lampp officiating. Burial will follow in Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with full U.S. Army Military  Honors, James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing.

Family will receive friends at the church Thursday, 1 p.m. until time of service.

Survived by his beloved wife of eighteen years Brenda Christmas, Graceville, four children Sandra (Fred) Brockway, Lincolnton, NC, Wanda (Roy) Harris, Pace, FL, Deborah (Eddie) Newsome, Marianna, FL, Steven (Suzette) Christmas, Cottondale, FL; four grandchildren Melissa (Tim) Smith, Jason (Jennifer) Harris, Rachel (Zeppi) Guillo, Jessica Christmas; six great grandchildren Anna and Camden Smith, Jack, Jake and Jude Harris, Rebekah Guillo; step-daughter Brandy (Tim) Roberts, Catlettsburg, KY; three step grandchildren Madalyn, Emma Grace and C.J. Mr. Lenord George Williams, 75 of Newnan, Georgia and formerly of Bascom, FL passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2018 at his home.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2018, 2:00 PM  E.S.T. from the Sellers-Smith R.W.S. Memorial Chapel located 168 Greenville Street Newnan, GA. 

Interment will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at The Georgia National Cemetery. 

Lenord G. Williams retired from the US Postal Service after 34 years of service. Georgia has been his home for over the last 50+ years and for over the last 40 years had been married to Campbellton, FL native Sandra K. Young.

Lenord leave to mourn his passing, his wife Sandra K. Young Williams. His three children from a previous marriage, his step-mom, eight brothers and nine sisters and a host of other relatives and friends.

Doris J. Cogburn Rehberg age 97 passed away on her birthday, February 21, 2018 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, AL.

A native of Jackson County Doris was born in Kynesville, Florida to the late H.K. & Gieula Rowe Cogburn. She was a graduate of Cottondale High School, Class of 1939, and worked at Daffin’s Department Store in Marianna for many years. Doris was a member of the Kynesville United Methodist Church and attended Bethlehem Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, flowers, and being around people.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Aubrey L. Rehberg in 2009.

Doris is survived by her two sons Jerry J. Rehberg of Marianna, Ronald K. Rehberg and wife Fran of Tallahassee, two grandchildren Jesse C. Rehberg and wife Stacy of Tallahassee, FL, Kyla L. Rehberg and Fiancé Hunter Nelson of Jacksonville Beach, Florida.

Services for Doris will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 24, 2018 in the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Dr. Harry Kinchen and Rev. Ronnie Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 23, 2018 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Christopher Owen Monday

Christopher Owen Monday, 38 of Marianna went home to be with the Lord on February 16, 2018. 

He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his Florida Gators.  He retired from Mercers Paint and Body after many years of service.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Irene Monday, his brother Kenny Monday, paternal grandparents Jack and Claudia Monday and maternal grandparents Owen and Annie Day.Survivors include his son, Christopher Caleb Monday of Marianna, three daughters Cheyanne Baxter of Marianna, Abbie Melton and Skyler Russo of Blountstown. His fiancé, Alison Melton of Blountstown, brother Brad Monday (Kristin), his birth mother Phyllis Rutherford of Quincy, Florida; sisters, Sharon Dykes (Homer Ellis) of Quincy, Deborah Thomas (Dennis), Teresa Smith (Lynn), Buffy Turner (Mike) and Brandi Clemons all of Marianna, one grandson Kylen Reese of Marianna, special nephew Tristin Monday and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Christopher will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 2 P.M. at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery.

 A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to service time.


Howard Clinton “Butch” Higley

Howard Clinton “Butch” Higley, 70, of Marianna, Florida, passed away in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Sandy Springs, Georgia, on February 21, 2018.

Butch was born in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, on November 8, 1947. His father served as a career Army officer, and the family lived in many places in the United States and in Augsburg, Germany. Butch graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1965. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Florida State University in 1969, and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1992. He served in the United States Army and later worked as a Computer Scientist on a Department of Defense research team at Georgia Tech until his retirement to Jackson County in 2006.

Butch was known to his family and friends as someone who loved his family, enjoyed helping others, and loved the Lord. He had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Marianna for twelve years and served as a deacon there. He enjoyed working outdoors and playing golf with good friends.

He is survived by his wife, Gayle Melzer Higley, his children, Krista (Antonio) Sandoval of Overland Park, Kansas, Clint (Mara) Higley of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and Mary Nell (Robert) Summey of Decatur, Georgia, as well as his three beloved grandchildren, Isabelle and Hannah Sandoval and Elijah Barrow. He is also survived by three sisters, Margaret Gower of Naples, Florida, Martha Wargo of Akron, Ohio, and Patricia Edrich of New Port Richey, Florida, and a brother, Arthur Higley of Hixson, Tennessee. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Myrtle Isbell and Howard Cogswell Higley, and his sister, Mary Abby Hollett.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Marianna with Pastor Jeff Powell officiating.  Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Madox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until service time.

Harold Jenkins, 82 of Slocomb, AL, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018.

Mr. Harold was born in Geneva County, AL to the late Talmer Jenkins and Selma Bateman Jenkins. He was U.S. Army Veteran and was a retired semi-truck driver.

Mr. Harold was a member of Christian Home Baptist Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, three sons James, Lee Allen and Kevin Jenkins, and a grandson T.J. Robinson.

Survived by the love of his life Sarah Jenkins, Slocomb, three children Maryanne Robinson, Graceville, Billy Ray (Jeanne) Jenkins, Wildwood, FL, Vicki Green, Graceville; one brother Kenneth Jenkins, Melbourne, FL, one sister Margie Brannon, Rehobeth, AL; nine grandchildren Marshall, David, Audrey, Logan, Kristen, Brandon, Lil Billy, Jason and Molly, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Bonita Jean (Jeannie) Smith

Bonita Jean (Jeannie) Smith, age 67 left this earth on February 18 to be with our Lord.

Born February 1, 1951 in Miami, FL to the late Betty Joyce Wright and Alfred C. Wright. 

She is preceded in death by her loving parents, two sisters Beverly Dianne Jenkins (Bill) and Betty Jo Mullis (Mickey), both of Jacksonville, FL.

Survivors include her loving husband of 32 years, Michael Smith, Daughter Tabitha Robinson (Tim), son Bryan Kennedy (Sara), 6 grandchildren: Storm Robinson (Amanda), McKenzee Campbell (David),  Sidney, Abbey, Carson and Kash Kennedy of Jacksonville, FL. Two great-grandchildren Cleo and Cassius Campbell of Jacksonville, FL.

Jeannie spent most of her life in Jacksonville where she worked as a physical education instructor for elementary students. She later found her passion as a pharmacy technician which she enjoyed for 23 years. 

She relocated to Grand Ridge, FL with her husband in 1992. 

As a child she took ballet and tap lessons and always loved dancing.

Hercules Pyles

Hercules Pyles, 79, peacefully passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018, at his home in Tallahassee, FL. Funeral services will be performed by the Reverend Stanley Walker at Tabernacle M.B. Church on Saturday, March 3, at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Little Zion Church Cemetery, Sneads, FL.  Visitation is 3-7 p.m. Friday at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE 850-942-1950.  A 1958 graduate of Jackson County Training School, he starred in various sports including basketball, football and baseball.  He was a retired Warehouseman for Edward Boker Foods.  Mr. Pyles was a devoted member of Tabernacle. He is survived by his loving wife, Lutissue Pyles; daughter, Wanda Lilly; grandchildren, Damion Smith, Jessica Lilly and Darnetta (Larnell) Brown; sister, Eulice “Jean” (Elmore) Bryant; brothers, Allen (Juanita) Thomas and Haywood (Callie) Thomas; and a host of adoring family members and friends.  His son, Kenneth Pyles preceded him in death in December of 2015.

Alice Nelwyn Griffin age 87 of Grand Ridge, FL passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at her home. She was born on January 9, 1931 in Trenton, Florida and has been a resident of Grand Ridge for 65 plus years. Alice was a member of the Grand Ridge United Methodist Church, and was retired from Jackson Hospital after 30 years of services as a RegisteredNurse.  She was an avid reader, loved cooking, watching movies and plays, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her cat LB.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, T.J. Griffin and numerous brothers and sisters.

Alice is survived by her four daughters; Nelwyn Griffin of Panama City, FL, Amy Griffin of Tallahassee, FL, Nancy Griffin Deese and husband Jerrold of Cottondale, FL, and Judy Griffin of Tallahassee, Fl, one sister Katy Starling of Trenton, FL, sister-in-law Elizabeth Black of Chattahoochee, FL, brother-in-law Don & Martha Griffin of Grand Ridge, Fl, two grandchildren Allison Ellis, and Wesley Deese, and three great grandchildren.

Servies for Alice will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Thursday, March 1, 2018 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Benefield officiating. Interment will follow in the Waldorf Cemetery in Grand Ridge. Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until time of service.

Mrs. Annie Ruth Blount, age 85, of Jaob City, Floida, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama.

She was a member of Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Jacob City, Florida.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 3rd t 1:00 P.M. at the Saint Mary Missionary Baptist Church in Jacob City with Rev. Obadiah White officiating, interment will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Mrs. Blount leaves to cherish her memories:  One Daughter, Gwendolyn Wright of Jacob City, Two Sons, Leonard Blount and wife Annie of Chipley, Florida and Jefferson Blount of Jacob City, One Brother, Randolph Jackson of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, One Sister, Agnes Williams of Jacob City, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Heyward Lynn Johnston

Heyward Lynn Johnston, 74, of Marianna, died February 26, 2018 at his residence.

Heyward was born in Coffee County, Alabama on November 4, 1943 to the late James & Mattie Johnston.  He loved to go fishing, take trips to Biloxi, watch football, paint, and spend time with his family. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Wilmer and Mattie Pearl Johnston; one sister, Martha Brown and one granddaughter, Tess Noel Johnston.

He is survived by two sons, Ted “E” Johnston and Frederick Joe Johnston; two daughters, Cynthia Rivers Martinez and Sylvia Matthews (Bill); one brother, James Larry Johnston and three grandchildren, Hunter Jack Rivers, Wyatt Jesse Rivers, and Jeb Red Johnston.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2018 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.  Interment will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Susie Mae Tyus, 94, of Tallahassee, formerly of Jackson County, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Cross Landings Health and Rehabilitation Center in Monticello, FL.

Susie was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County and was a member of Providence Baptist Church.  She was a certified Occupational Therapy Assistant with Florida State Hospital where she retired after 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Mary Neel and her husbands, Leon Martin Basford and George Ryals Tyus.  She is survived by one son, George Michael Tyus of Grand Ridge; two daughters, Neva Jean Basford Jones of Tallahassee and Gloria Gwendolyn Basford Conner (Rubert) of Grand Ridge; one sister, Reba Neel of Grand Ridge; seven grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Rev. Reverends Genoa Williams and Lawerence Revels officiating. Interment will follow in Cow Pen Pond Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Sept. 20th, 1953 – March 1st, 2018

Sharon Anne Morgan went home to be with the Lord on March 1st. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Donald Morgan, her daughter Lindsey Jarrett, son-in-law Michael Jarrett, 3 grandchildren Connor, Noah, and Harley, her mother, Ruby LeToile, two Brothers Norman Letoile JR and Larry Letoile, and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her father Norman LeToile and sister Sandy Meece. 

She was a loving, devoted, supportive daughter, wife, mother, and Mimi. She spent the last 30 years of her life in Jackson County. In that time she served as a parent volunteer to the school system for 15 years from helping in the classroom, field trips chaperone, band volunteer, and coaching softball teams. She was active in the MERE recreation program as a coach and mentor to young ladies through the softball program. She spent countless hours volunteering to help others in need. She retired from Jackson County parks and Recycling department after a long and dedicated service.

A memorial service in her honor will be held on Sunday March 11th, 1 pm at Citizen’s Lodge Marianna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Sharon Morgan.

Family ask to please wear casual or business attire.

Aaron Winford Smith

Aaron Winford Smith, 29, of Marianna died Sunday, March 4, 2018.

Aaron was born March 1, 1989 in Gastonia, NC to Chuck and Cindy Smith. He moved to Marianna in 1995 where he was in the class of 2007 at Marianna High School and later enrolled in Alabama Aviation Technical College in Ozark, AL. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Marianna.  Aaron moved to Pensacola in 2016, where he was employed for the past couple of years with English Construction Company and attended Liberty Church. He enjoyed bird hunting, fishing, and boating on the Chipola River.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, June and Jimmie Sue Sims and Albert W. Smith, Jr. Aaron is survived by his loving parents, Chuck and Cindy Smith of Marianna; sister, Taylor Smith of Seattle, Washington and grandparents, Dorcus Bamburg and Mabel E. Smith.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 2018 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with Father David Green officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.

Henry Lee Blizzard age 58 of Marianna passed away on March 4, 2018.  He was born in Jackson County to P. J. and Alice Blizzard.  Henry was a mechanic before his retirement and enjoyed fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents.  Survivors include his brothers; Billy Blizzard, James Blizzard and Pewee Blizzard and sisters; Juliene Chambers and husband Greg and Laura Bates and husband Steven.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ollie V. Batson, age 99, of Marianna, FL, transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Monday, March 5, 2018, in Signature Health Care at the Courtyard.

She was a member of the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church 3360 Gardenview Rd Cottondale, FL 32431 with Rev. Daryl Johnson, Rev. DeRon Johnson, Rev. Th¬omas Forward and Rev. Henry Forward, Pastor, Officiating.  

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Vann Funeral Home will be in charge of the service.

The viewing will be held Friday, March 9, 2018 from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Vann Funeral Home. 

Mrs. Batson will lie in repose at the church from 10:00 A.M. until time for the service.
