Elouise Bryan

Mother Elouise Bryan of Marianna, Florida, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 28th at Jackson Hospital with her caring and devoted family at her side.  She was 90 years old.

 A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was of the Baptist faith and a member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church.  She served actively until her health declined in the Senior Choir, Senior Women Ministry, Baptist Training Union, as a Sunday School Teacher and on the Mother’s Board.  She was also a very active member of the Heriones of Jericho Israel Court #99.  She retired from Florida State Hospital where she worked as a Unit Treatment Rehabilitation Specialist.

 Precious memories and cherished times will forever remain with two sons; Charles (Lucille) of Orlando, Florida and Carl Sr. (Flencenia) of Miami, Florida; one sister, Jenny Vera (James) of Sunrise, Florida; one brother, Clayton (Beatrice) of Miami, Florida; four grandchildren, Rev. Linda (Eddie) of Marianna, Florida, Linda (Gerald) of Tampa, Florida, Dr. Carla (Mario) of Miami, Florida and Carl Jr. of Miami, Florida; four great grandchildren, Lauren, Brittany both of Miami, Florida, Geralyn of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Jessica of Marianna, Florida; two godsons, Robert (Easter) of Greenwood, Florida and Bishop John (Dr. Sharon) of Marianna, Florida; caregiver, Linda Franklin; a special friend for more than 50 years, Lettie C. White of Greenwood, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

 A celebration of a life well lived will be held Saturday, February 3rd at 11a.m. at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Dwight Cockerham, Sr., Rev. Kenneth Baker, Rev. Anthony Granberry and Rev. Linda Ellis officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.

 The remains will lie-in-repose for one hour prior to the 11a.m. funeral time on Saturday at Mt. Tabor.

Larry Nathan Henderson, 50, of Grand Ridge, FL passed away January 30, 2018.

Larry was born in Gadsden County, FL and was a life long resident of Grand Ridge, FL. He enjoyed mechanic work and could fix anything that was broken. He also enjoyed carpentry and farming.

He is preceded in death by his father, David Henderson and second father, Bruce Brantley.

He is survived by his mother, Bea Brantley; two sons, Brandon Henderson and Jonathan Henderson; two daughters, Jasmine Henderson and Brittany Henderson; one brother, Wayne Henderson and wife, Doreen and three grand children.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2018 at Crypress Grove Assembly of God Church in Grand Ridge, FL with Reverends Wayne Fussell and Dewayne Sims officiating. Interment will follow in Welcome Assembly of God Church Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Cypress Grove Assembly of God Church in Grand Ridge, FL.

Mrs. Mamie Lee Evins of Chipley, FL went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 29, 2018 in Chipley, FL.

She was born in Frankville, Alabama on March 27, 1933 to Will Smith and Emma Holcombe.  

She was preceded in death by her daughter Dedria G. Taylor and Lutricia Evins.

She leaves to cherish three sons: Jim Smith (Betty) of Orlando, FL, Lawrence Evins (Grace) of Fairfax, VA and Larry Evins (Mary) of Chipley, FL; three daughters: Linda Belcher (James), Juanita Evins all of Bonifay, FL and Rosie Ross (Marvin) of Elizabeth City, NC: nineteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren; one aunt, along with a host of other cousins, other special relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 4-7 PM, Saturday, January 3, 2018 in the M. Sue & Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street in Graceville, FL.

A celebration of life will be 2PM, Sunday, January 4, 2018 from the M. Sue & Rodney Pittman Memorial Chapel in Graceville, FL with the Reverend Reuben Merritt officiating, under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Mr. Jake Sim White of Marianna, Florida  went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday January 24, 2018 at his residence on Myles Street with his family at his bedside.

Mr. Jake Sim White was born to the late Mr. Leroy White and Beulah Godwin White on June 26, 1936.  He is a graduate of Jackson County Training School-class of 1955. 

He migrated to Dallas, Texas in the early 1960’s where he joined his brother Theroy,  his wife Mildred and family. 

 He was joined in Holy Matrimony to his lovely wife Mary Wadsworth in 1962. They were married nearly 55 years. His greatest desire in life was to make sure that his wife always had the very best.

He was an avid member of Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. He was also a faithful member of the Men’s Fellowship, where he served faithfully for many years.

During his time in Dallas, Jake was gainfully employed at Safeway, A & P, and later retired from Texas Instruments. There he remained until his recent illness, at which time he returned to Marianna, Florida

He is survived by his wife Mary Wadsworth White of Marianna, Florida; special nieces: Kimberly Wadsworth and Linda White; sisters: Mamie Hill (Joe, deceased) of Quitman, Mississippi and Annell Wilson (Leroy) of Marianna, Florida; brothers: Colonel (R) Ulysses X. White (Mary, deceased) of Manassas, Virginia, Amos L. White (Delcena, deceased) of Cape Coral, Florida, James C. White (Katherine) of Miramar, Florida and Theroy N. White (Mildred) of Dallas, Texas; aunts: Melissa Godwin Johnson (Tom, deceased)  Rebecca Massenburg, (Simmon) and Curlee Russ (Eugene, deceased); sisters-in-law: Christine Wadsworth Johnson and Henrietta Wadsworth Page of Marianna, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 4-7 PM, Friday, February 2, 2018, in the M. Sue & Rodney D. Pittman Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street in Graceville, FL.

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, February 3, 2018 from the New Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 2870 Barnes Street, Marianna, Florida with the Reverend Crushall Swilley, pastor and the Reverend Walter White, Jr., eulogist.

He will be laid to rest in the Orange Hill Cemetery in Marianna, Florida under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Nikeytra Shalanda Williams, 34, of Chattahoochee, Florida passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018. Funeral service was Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. EST at Greater Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, Florida with burial at UBA Cemetery in Chattahoochee, Florida.  

Nikeytra Shalanda Williams, known to many as “Puddy” was born on May 10, 1983 to Sharon Williams and James Bouie in Chattahoochee, Florida.  She attended the Gadsden County Public Schools.  As her health declined in 2017, an angel from God’s Heavenly host summoned “Puddy” home late Saturday evening on January 20, 2018.

Nikeytra “Puddy” Williams leaves to cherish her memories her devoted children: daughter, Ah’pple Garner and son, Omar Williams; mother, Sharon Williams (Richard) of Chattahoochee, Florida; father, James Bouie of Chattahoochee, Florida; grandmother, Irene Hadley of Chattahoochee, Florida; grandfather, Leroy Williams of Blountstown, Florida; two sisters, Majeeda Bouie (Phillip) of Marianna, Florida and Lisa Bouie (Koreen) of Quincy, Florida; three brothers, Nicholas McCray (Amy of Pensacola, Florida, Carlos Geathers (Cassie) of Chattahoochee, Florida and Terrance Bouie of Fort Myers, Florida; a aunt of heart, Stella Harrell (Keith) of Quincy, Florida; uncle, Timothy Thomas of Chattahoochee, Florida; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved one and friends.

Nikeytra was preceded in death by her grandmother, Verdell Simmons, great grandmother, Elouise Hill, favorite cousins, Travis “Poonie” Dennis and a favorite aunt, Linda Williams.  Crawford & Moultry Funeral Home of Chattahoochee, Florida were in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Ivory will lie in state at the church from 12:00 Noon until time for the service.

Dorcas Marguerite Adams McCraney, 94, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Marianna Health and Rehabilitation in Marianna, Florida.  She was born March 22, 1923 in Waynesboro, Mississippi. She was one of six children born to Clyde Oats Adams and Kate Williams Adams.  The family moved to Ashford, Alabama when Marguerite was a very young child.  She graduated from Ashford High School, Troy State Teachers College and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn University).

 Marguerite Adams wed John Malcom McCraney in January 1945.  During 69 years of marriage, they lived in South Georgia and north Florida.  At the time of her death, Marguerite McCraney had resided in Marianna, Florida for 52 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she participated in the Women’s Circle, and was a past member of the Marianna Garden Club.

 Marguerite McCraney was predeceased by her parents; two older siblings, C.O. Adams, Jr. of Ashford, Alabama and Houston, Texas, Josephine Adams McArthur of Ashford, Alabama, and her devoted husband, John M. McCraney.

 She is survived by two siblings, Mary Kathryn Adams Espy of Gordon, Alabama and Roy C. Adams of Monroeville, Alabama; two children, Leila Kate McCraney Edenfield (Richard) of Marianna, Florida and John Malcom McCraney, Jr. (Kay) of Fernandina Beach, Florida; two grandchildren, Julia Edenfield Berry (Keith) of Lake Mary, Florida and Anna Katherine McCraney of Brooklyn, New York; one great grandchild, Ava Kate Berry of Lake Mary, Florida, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 A private viewing for family members only will be Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Marianna, Florida from 11:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, February 4, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church of Marianna, FL with Reverend Dr. Nathan Attwood officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashford City Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

 The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service time at the church.

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Methodist Children’s Home. In care of, the First United Methodist Church, 2901 Caledonia St, Marianna, Florida 32446.

Mr. Tilton Louis Register, 86 of Fadette, AL passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2018.

Mr. Louis, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict, made his life as a farmer alongside his family.  Over the years, he was a member and past president of the Cattlemen’s Association, a former Geneva County Commissioner, former board member of the Geneva County Soil and Water Conservation District, and a former board member of Alabama Farm Bureau known today as ALFA. He was a long time member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.

A Home-going service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 4, 2018 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Chris Adams and Bro. David Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Church cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.

Predeceased by his beloved wife, Flora, his mother and father, Dudley and Blanche Register, and two sisters, Lou Ellen Williams and Imogene Hamm.

Survived by one son, Mark Register of Fadette; one daughter Nena (Chris) Speigner of Waxahachie, TX; one sister Joyce Pitts of Graceville; four grandchildren Matthew Louis Register, Nena Danielle (Brad) Baker, Mark Ashton Register, Meghan Marie Register, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Thelma was born on April 1, 1918 in Savannah, GA. to Willie Grant and Fannie Stripling.

Thelma was of the Baptist faith and lived a happy life. 

She leaves to mourn her passing a host family, extended family and friends.

Sarah Virginia Mathews, 92, of Malone, FL went home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2018. She was the daughter of the late John Bertram Garrett Sr. and Sarah Gammon Garrett.

She was a lifelong resident of Malone, FL and graduated from Malone High School in 1944. She went on to obtain her cosmetology license in St. Petersburg, FL.  After practicing for several years, she returned home to be with her family.

She was a loving, devoted wife and mother that took great pride in her kids. She was an adamant believer in hard work and could often be found working in her yard and garden. She loved to fish, cook and spend time with her children and grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Anderson of St. Petersburg, FL; Bubba Garrett of Malone, FL; first husband, Rex McKeithen of Vernon, FL and her loving husband of 45 years, Francis Mathews of Malone, FL.

She is survived by one sister, Ruth Griggs of Malone, FL; two daughters, Rexine Taylor of Compass Lake, FL and Barbara (Arnold) Broome of Charleston, SC; one son, Frank (Alesia) Mathews of Malone, FL; 12 grandkids and five great-grandkids. 

Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at The First Baptist Church of Malone, FL with Bro. John Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Collins Chapel Church Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, February 5, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Malone, FL.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the nurses and staff of Covenant Hospice in Marianna, FL for their kindness and support in her final days.

Mrs. Ida Mae Russ Prather, 94, a retired Dietary Aide, went Home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2018.  Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at her church, Greater Mt. Pleasant M.B. Church, with burial in Bethlehem AME Church Cemetery, both in Cottondale, FL.  Viewing-visitation is 3-7 p.m. Friday at TILLMAN OF TALLAHASSEE 850-942-1950.  Mrs. Prather was a staunch former member of Henshaw Chapel AME Church of Cottondale and had lived in Tallahassee since 1978. Her love and legacy will treasured forever by her loving daughter-caregiver, Sabrina (Andrew) Thompson of Tallahassee, FL; devoted sons, Raymond (Myrtha) Prather, Jr. of Lugano, Switzerland, Eddie Prather of Marianna, FL, and Anthony (Zena) Prather of Orlando, FL; sisters-in-law, Corrine Russ of Henderson, NC and Curlee Russ of Cottondale, FL; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond Prather Sr.; son, Lilton Prather; sisters, Lola Russ Heggs and Zolena Russ Glenn; brothers, Zora, Eugene, Robert Jr. and Anderson Russ.

Myrtis Mayo

Myrtis Mayo, 89, of Round Lake died Sunday, January 28, 2018.

Myrtis was born June 16, 1928 in Lynn Haven to the late Arthur and Flossie Todd Mayo. She moved to southern California in 1956 and resided there until 1979 when she returned to Panama City with her youngest son.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Shirley Jones; two sons, Jeffery Sexton and Glen “Buddy” Sexton; three brothers, Delma Mayo, L.W. “Pete” Mayo, and Arthur G. Mayo; parents, Arthur and Flossie Mayo.

Survivors include one daughter, Sybil Miller of Round Lake; one brother, L.D. “Buck” Mayo of Altha; three sisters, Barbara Anderson and husband, Chuck of Ozark, AR, Frances Rowe of Paris, AR and Doris Neely of Alford; eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Myrtis was the best mom anyone could ask for. She was my mama, my friend, and my heart. She loved us and we loved her. We will miss and love her everyday.

A Service of Remembrance will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Rev. James Sharkey officiating.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at James & Sikes Funeral Home.

Robert Lee (Bob) Price, Jr.

Mr. Robert Lee (Bob) Price, Jr. passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Wesley Place in Dothan, Alabama. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 am CST on Friday, February 9, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church of Graceville, Florida. Family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall in Graceville. Mr. Price was born in Graceville on August 5, 1932 to Robert Lee Price, and Janie Mixon Price of Graceville. He graduated from Graceville High School and went on to study at the University of Florida where he earned a B.S. degree in Animal Husbandry. In the late 50s he attended Architect Design School in Chicago, then returned home in 1960, after the passing of his father, to begin his life-long career in agriculture. Along with his passion for the land, was his devotion and service to his church, his town and his family. He dedicated many hours to helping improve these institutions.

In Graceville, he was a City Commissioner and Mayor, as well as being named Lion of the Year with many years of dedication to the local organization. He served as a member of the Holmes Creek Soil Conservation Board, a board member of the Northwest Florida Water Management District, Trustee of the Bank of Jackson County, board member of Campbellton-Graceville Hospital and served on special committees appointed by the Governor. He was a founding member of the Florida Peanut Producers Association, where he served as Secretary-Treasurer in the late 70s and President from 1982 to 1988.

He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served in many capacities such as Chairman of the Board, Finance Committee, Missions, and Sunday School teacher. He was also active on the building committee, grounds beautification and the historical committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Patricia Price Watson and Ann Price Merritt; his in-laws, Fred & Ruth McIntosh; a brother in-law John Watson, Jr; and a nephew Andy Merritt.

Survivors include: his loving wife of over 50 years – Joe Ann McIntosh Price; sons William (Bill) Price, Graceville, FL, Scott Price, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughters Janie Flack and husband Chris Flack, St. Petersburg, FL, Joanna Price, Tallahassee, FL; four grandchildren Hunter Flack, Julianna Flack, Alex Price and Jai Price; numerous nephews and a niece; and two devoted four legged grand dogs, Bella and Bailey.

Alton “Al” Caddell

Alton “Al” Caddell, 78 of Graceville passed away Friday, February 2, 2018 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

A celebration of his life will be 10 a.m., Saturday, February 17, 2018 at New Hope Assembly of God Church with Bro. Jimmy Williams, Jr. and Bro. Coy Mixon officiating. Burial will follow in Howard Cemetery in Campbellton, Florida. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, February 16, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Mr. Al was born in Moncks Corner, SC on December 18, 1939. A U. S. Coast Guard Veteran, Mr. AL was a long distance trucker and owner/operator of C & C Trucking. He loved to Karaoke with his beloved wife and spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. And as we all tell him so-long for now we can honestly say “your shift is over driver you can rest now…”

He is survived by his beloved wife Lottie Caddell, Graceville; two sons Steven Liebherr and John Liebherr, SC; five daughters Cyndi (Rick) Ward, Cheryl Penson, TX, Donna (Steve) Sims, FL, Sherri (Jimmy) Williams, AL, Regina (Chris) McCloskey, FL; four brothers, George Morton, OK, James Potter, Clayton Morton, SC, Spencer Morton, GA; two sisters Patsy Phillips, Judy Metts, SC; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.

Cathlyn (Cathy) McClain Benoit, age 80, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2018.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Albert (Bert) Benoit and their two children, Lee Benoit and Ginger Benoit Savage (Robin).

She is also survived by her brother, Henry McClain (Norma). Also surviving are her grandchildren, Ellen Pantazis (Patrick), Emily Wignall (Nick), Marena Benoit, Wesley Benoit and great-grandchild, Anna Robin Wignall.

Cathlyn was born January 2,1938 in Waynesboro, VA yet she spent most of her childhood in Panama City, FL. She graduated from Bay County High School in 1956 and Florida State University in 1964 with a BS in Nursing. She worked as an RN in numerous capacities before teaching nursing at Gulf Coast State College and Chipola College.

She was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Marianna, FL. She was also a lifelong avid horsewoman who adored trail riding in the mountains of North Carolina. Later in life, she loved her weekly get together with friends playing cards and dominoes. 

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Marianna, FL on Saturday, February 17th at 11:00 am.

Barbara Ann Tidwell, 72, of Bascom died Friday, February 9, 2018 at Jackson Hospital.

Barbara was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. She retired as a manager in food service with the Jackson County School Board. She was a member of the Hickory Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Bascom. She loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and “memaw”.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Lollie Robinson; two sisters, Christelle Robinson and Sallie Robinson and one brother, Coy Robinson.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Thurman Tidwell; two sons, Rodney Hewett and wife, Tonya of Sneads, Timothy Tidwell and wife, Robin of Bascom; one daughter, Dawn Williams and husband, Chip of Marianna; one brother, Jack Robinson of Bascom; two sisters, Thelma Lawrence of Grand Ridge and Ruth Roberts and husband, Ed of Tallahassee; seven grandchildren, Dustin Hewett, Sierra Birge and husband, Justin, Raigan, Abigail, and Peyton Tidwell, Garrett and Parker Williams; two great grandchildren, Bentley and Wyatt Birge.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church in Bascom, FL with Rev. Marshall Barrentine officiating. Interment will follow in Rocky Grove Cemetery in Bascom, FL with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 5-7p.m. at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in Marianna.
