Ann L. Chatwood age 75 of Marianna passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016 in Bay Medical Hospital. Ann was born in Calhoun County on August 29, 1941 to the late George and Ruth Newsome. Ann has resided in Marianna since 1980 coming from Clarskville where she was a member of the Carr Chapel. She worked several years as a manager over the convenient store with the Graceville Oil Company. Ann loved to read, work in her yard, spending time with her family and spoiling all of her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband’s Broward Chatwood and George “Bob” Boyd, Jr., brothers Clyde Newsome and George Newsome, Jr.

Ann is survived by her daughters Rita Girardot (Terry), Tammy Carr (James), Kim Boyd, and Christanna Baker (Tyrell), special niece Cindy Welch, 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Services for Ann will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 1, 2016 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Gene “Blue” Mullins and Howard Boyd officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Zolena K. Kent

Zolena K. Kent age 90 of Cottondale passed away on Monday, August 29, 2016 in the Marianna Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was a native of Jackson County, born on January 13, 1926 to the late Alton E. Kent Sr. and Annie Kent.  She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Kynesville. Zolena enjoyed sewing, embroidery, and fishing. Mrs. Kent loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and the rest of her family.

Zolena was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Collis P. Kent; nine siblings and son-in-law, Dan Pridgeon. She is survived by her children Alton Kent (Melba), Joyce Ann Pridgeon, Ronnie Kent (Vickie), Charlotte Roark (Steve); grandchildren, Al Kent (Teresa), Kathy Sloan, Gina McAllister (Bobby), Brad Kent (Dana), Brian Kent (April), David Roark (Colleen), Patrick Roark, Peggy Brown (Steve), Rita Hall (Paul), Eddie Pridgeon, Christie Arrington (Ricky), Michelle Spears (Chris), and Jamie Blankenship (Luke); brothers, Alton E. Kent Jr. and Charles Kent; twenty-nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Zolena will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 in the Bethlehem Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jim Sharkey officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on the Friday, September 2, 2016 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Zacqueline E. Wimberly went home to be with Jesus on August 31, 2016. 

She was preceded in death by her father, Arry Boyd Sellers and mother, Viola Hamilton Sellers; sisters, Pauline Grant and Flossie Collins; brothers, John, Willie and A. B. Sellers. 

She is survived by her son, Bill Wester (Mary); her daughter, Tamaria Joyner; sister, Betty Hewett Smith; three granddaughters, five great granddaughters and one great-great-grandson. 

The family expresses special appreciation to Dr. Joe Gay and his staff, the staff of Marianna Health and Rehab Center, and Mrs. Barbara Bradford with Traveling Angels, who spent countless hours with her. “Zac”, as she was better known, worked as a bank teller, self-employed bookkeeper, Princess House representative, and seller of collectables. She was anonymously referred and admitted into Who’s Who of American Professional Women in 1987. 

A celebration service will be held at Eastside Baptist Church at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 3, 2016.  The family will receive friends at 1 p.m., one hour prior to funeral.  Interment will be in Cypress Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

James Leroy “Smokey” Boutwell

Mr. James Leroy “Smokey” Boutwell, 72, passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness, at his home in the country outside of Grand Ridge, Florida.  He was a member of the Millsprings Christian Chapel Church and had retired as a self-employed Welder.  He was known to always have a smile for everyone and would even ask, “where’s your smile today”.  Smokey loved fishing and being in the great outdoors more than anything.  He would get into the forests whenever and wherever he could.

He is survived by his loving wife, Loneita June Boutwell of Grand Ridge, Florida;   a step-daughter, Sherry Lee Everett of Mahnomen, Minnesota;   three step-sons, Johnathan Goodwin and his wife Stacey of Marianna, Florida,  William E. Goodwin of Sneads, Florida, and Boe Remmie and his wife Debbie of Shorewood, Illinois;   also nine step-grandchildren.

Memorial Services are planned for Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at 3:00 PM CST, Millsprings Christian Chapel Church on Millsprings Road, South of Sneads, Florida.

Booketee W. Hartfield

Deacon Booketee W. Hartfield, Sr. of DeFuniak Springs, answered his Savior call to come home on Monday morning, August 26, 2016.

Deacon Booketee W. Hartfield, Sr. was born Saturday, June 14, 1941 in Mclain, Mississippi. He was the oldest child of the late Mary Helen and stepson of Leroy Lawrence. He shared a special relationship with his late grandfather, Rube and grandmother, Emma Hartfield of Mclain, Mississippi.  

Booketee attended school at Mclain High School and later relocated to DeFuniak Springs, Florida where he met and married, Norma Jean Goodson and raised a family of six children: Rodney, Barry, Kim, Booketee Jr.,  Gary and Tammy who preceded him in death.

He joined Mount Nebo Mississippi Baptist Church where he was ordained a Deacon and served faithfully until his health wouldn’t allow him to carry out his duties anymore. He was very active at his church and involved in his community and in his grandchildren lives. He retired from Fairchilds, Crestview, FL and from the Walton County Jail where he met and served many people.

He was also preceded in death by a sister and three brothers: Ruby Lee, Charles, Lonnie and J. R.

Deacon Hartfield leaves to celebrate his life his beloved wife, Norma Jean Hartfield; sons: Rodney Robinson, Sr. (Nikki) of Tallahassee, Florida, Barry Robinson (Terri), St. Petersburg, Florida, Booketee Hartfield, Jr., (Crissty), Pensacola, Florida, Gary Hartfield of Tampa, Florida and  daughter, Kim Robinson of Largo, Florida; sisters: Laura Jean Bolton (Curtis) of Beaumont, Mississippi and Gracie Mae Lawrence of Mclain, Mississippi; brothers: George Lawrence and James Lawrence of Mclain, Mississippi; brother and sister-in-law: Benny Ross Goodson, Sr., (Connie), Chicago, Illinois; he leaves grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will always love and miss him.

Visitation will be Friday, September 2, 2016, 7 PM at Park Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, DeFuniak Springs. Interment will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery under the direction of Park Funeral Home, DeFuniak Springs, FL.

Steven Chris Richards, 41, of Sneads died Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Jackson Hospital. 

Steven was born in Bainbridge, GA. He lived in Macclenny, FL  before moving to Sneads in 2004 where he worked at Walmart and Lowes. Steven was of the Pentecostal faith and believed in John 3:16 KJV.

He is survived by his parents, Arthur T. and Maxine H. Richards; one brother, Rickey Richards; one sister, Michelle Richards Horney and husband, Mike; nieces and nephews, Jacob and Brandon Horney, Katelin, Sarah and Fernie Richards; aunts and uncles, Joanna Dean and family, Jackie & Janie Brown and family, Ernie Richards and family.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., CST, Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Salem Wesleyan Church with Rev. Wes Wickard officiating. Shelly Suzanne Wright

Shelly Suzanne Wright, 22, of Sneads, FL, passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2016.

Shelly was born on April 26, 1994, in Marianna, FL.  She attended Sneads High School where she was loved by many.  She loved to fish, ride dirt roads, hang out with her friends, and spend time with her family.

Shelly is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Durwood Wright and Sarah Wright; paternal aunt, Renee Wright; and paternal uncle, Junior Wright.

Shelly is survived by her parents, Chuckie and Connie Wright; brothers, Lee Wright and D.J. Wright, all of Sneads, FL; and half-brother, Michael Allen, of Blakely, GA.  She is also survived by her maternal grandparents, Curtiss Lee and Suzanne LaLonde, both of Sneads, FL, as well as, a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Services will be held at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home in Sneads, FL.  The viewing will be Wednesday, September 7, 2016 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm CDT and the Funeral Services will be Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 11:00am CDT.  Interment will follow at Oak Grove Church Cemetery on Oak Grove Road in Sneads, FL. 

Shelly will be greatly missed by all the lives in which she touched.

Mr. Jerrel Dewayne Holmes, 44 of DeFuniak Springs, FL, went home to be with the Lord on August 31, 2016 at the Sacred Heart Hospital of Pensacola, Florida.  

He was of the Baptist Faith and was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Argyle, Florida.  

Celebration of Life will be held 10 A.M., CST Saturday, September 10, 2016 from the sanctuary of the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Argyle, FL with pastor, Rev. Willie E. Brown, Sr., Rev. LaTangela Neal, Rev. Tyrone Broadus, and Rev. Earnest Powell, officiating.  Committal Services will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery of Argyle, FL. 

He leaves to cherish his memories his wife:  Donna Holmes of DeFuniak Springs, FL;  son:  Jeremiah Holmes of DeFuniak Springs, FL;  father:  John Holmes, Sr. of Chipley, FL;  three brothers:  John Holmes, Jr., and wife Pamela, Jeffery Holmes, both of Chipley, FL, and Jarvis Holmes and wife Marsha of Freeport, FL;  two sisters:  Marjorie Gundrum and husband Nathan, and Janice Holmes, both of Freeport, FL;  along with sisters & brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. 

Mr. Holmes will lie in repose at the church on Saturday from 9 A.M. until time for services at 10 A.M.  Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley, FL directing.

He was a member of the St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church.

Marjorie Faye Harris-Grindle age 73 of Tallahassee passed away on Sunday, September 4, 2016 in Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Marjorie was a native of Jackson County recently residing in West Minster Oaks Retirement Community. She was born in Marianna on July 7, 1943 to the late William Harvey and Ella McCroan and was a member of the Cypress Baptist Church where she held the position of church treasure until 2014. Marjorie was a devoted mother and grandmother and considered her granddaughter Victoria the “love of her life”. She was a kind, gentle person and a loyal friend to many through the years. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Charles A. Harris, and a brother William “Barney” McCroan. Marjorie is survived by her husband of 2 years Robert “Bob” Grindle formerly of Marianna, son Kevin Harris and wife Dominique Faison- Harris, granddaughter Victoria Harris, brother Hershel McCroan of Cumming, GA, and several loving nephews and 1 niece. 

Service for Marjorie will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 in the Cypress Baptist Church with Brother David Timms officiating. Interment will follow in the Cypress Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

Stanley Alan Haines

Stanley Alan Haines, passed away on August 30, 2016 at the age of 76.  He was born in Portsmouth, OH on May 8, 1940 to Jack E. and Garnet O. Haines.  Stan had a varied career in manufacturing management (Ohio), walnut farming (California), and the pest control industry (Atlanta, GA).  

 Stan was an avid and proficient golfer and an ardent fan of the FSU Seminoles.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Warsaw, OH, the University Center Club in Tallahassee, and the Tallahassee Lodge of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.  Stan was a Past Master of the Masons and a Past Exalted Ruler of the Elks, and he previously served on the board of Grace Mission Episcopal Church in Tallahassee.  

 Stan is survived by his wife Helen, his sons Bradley Scott Haines and Jeffrey Clark Haines, his grandsons Jerrad Haines and Lucas Haines, his uncle Tom Ogle, and numerous cousins.  

 A Memorial Service will be held in Tallahassee at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Friday, August 23 at 2:00 p.m. with an Inurnment to follow. Mrs. Allie Mae Baxter, 94, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Bainbridge, Georgia, and is now with her Lord.  She had been a lifelong resident of this area and a devoted homemaker for her family.  She was a member of the Connection Church Assembly of God in Bainbridge, Georgia.  Allie Mae loved all her grandchildren and also going fishing when she was able. She is going to be missed by her friends and all of her loving family. 

Allie Mae is survived by her two sons, James Tyus and Roy Lee Rabon (Sandra);  four daughters, Mattie Hand (Willie Hand),  Marie Hand (Bill Hand),  Irene Hand (Charles Hand)  and  Betty Godwin (Frank Godwin);  twenty-nine grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Rabon, her three sons, A. J. Tyus,  Eugene Rabon and Jessie James Rabon.

Visitation will take place at her son, Roy Lee Rabon’s home at 7217 Minor Lane, Sneads, Florida until Funeral Services which are Friday, September 9, 2016, 10:00 AM CST, Graveside at Dykes Cemetery.  Rev. Patricia Ann Martin 64 of Marianna, passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 in Jackson Hospital. Patricia was a native of Marianna born on September 10, 1951 to the late Clyde and Marian Medlock.  She was a member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Marianna.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William E. Martin, her brothers John Allen & Andy Medlock.

Patricia is survived by her son Bill Martin, daughter Shelly Martin, brothers Bill Medlock, Jimmy Medlock, and Donnie Medlock, sister Linda Whitfield, and a host of numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Patricia will be held at 2:00 P.M. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Mark Sims officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

Betty Turner

Betty Turner of Marianna passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 in Marianna at the age of seventy-three. Born in Waycross, Georgia, Betty was the daughter of the late Henry Key and Aline (Downey) Roberts. She earned a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Florida State University and was an educator in Jackson County for many years. She was one of the founders of the Jackson County Teacher’s Union and Jackson County Special Education Department and Art Department. She was also a lobbyist for the Department of Education and was a member of the State Association of Negotiators.

In addition to her parents, Henry and Aline Turner, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Roberts, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Melanie Turner McCroan and her husband, Dan of Marianna; three grandchildren, Rhiannon McCroan, Savannah Merrifield and her husband, Mark, and Turner McCroan; three great-grandchildren, Liam, Landon, and Lawson.

Betty was an avid teacher; therefore, the family is asking in lieu of flowers contributions be made to the Jackson County School Systems Art Department, 2903 Jefferson Street, Marianna, FL 32446.

Memorialization will be by cremation.

In loving memory of Rose Lorraine (Dougherty) Sullivan who passed away on September 10, 2016 surrounded by her loving husband, John and her children. Rose was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on November 5, 1939. Rose was a devoted wife and loving mother who lived her life by the Catholic faith. Rose leaves behind her husband of 57 years, John, her children, John, Theresa and her husband Tim, Kevin and his wife Alexis, Tim, Cathy and her husband Bruce, Mary Ann and her husband John, and Brian and his wife Denise and her honorary son Tim Ballew and honorary daughter Beverly Shores, and her numerous grand-children. Rose leaves behind two sisters, her brother in-law Tom, sister in-law Emily, Sister in-law Frannie, sister in-law Elizabeth and brother in-law Peter and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose’s love was large and grand, bringing light and warmth into all of our hearts. She lived a life filled with devotion and she will be missed more than words can describe. Debra Roberts Elmore, 56, of Marianna died Saturday, September 10, 2016 at her residence. 

She was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. Debra was born in the Alliance Community August 5, 1960 to Jimmy C. Roberts, Sr. & Betty Kirkland Roberts. She worked at Lehigh Furniture Company for a number of years. She was presently self- employed. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her father; Survived by her husband, Jimmie; son, Eddie Elmore and wife, Keely of Cottondale; daughters, Amanda Elmore-Self and husband, Bobby of Marianna,  Renee Elmore Vanburen and husband, Fred of Grand Ridge; her mother, Betty Kirkland Roberts of Grand Ridge;  brothers, Jimmy C. Roberts, Jr. of Logansport, IN, James William “Bill” Roberts of Grand Ridge; sister, Shirley Roberts Catalfamo of Sneads; eleven grandchildren,  Alyssa Elmore, Allie Hinson, Jasmyne Vanburen, Rachel Routt,  Toni Routt, Jaley Willis, Jeremy Cook, Jordan Self, Justin Self, Jalen Vanburen and Rylee Elmore.

Annette Widner, age 71, of Marianna passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2016, in Flowers Hospital. She was born in Marianna on December 15, 1944, to the late Amos and Myrtle Hill. Mrs. Annette enjoyed sitting on the back porch watching the wildlife feed. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. 

Mrs. Annette was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-two years, Claude Widner; children, Michael Widner (Jan) and Michelle Blackmon (Jeff); sister, Ellen Hill; grandchildren, Mason Blackmon, Bryce and Levi Widner.

Services for Mrs. Annette will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at the Caverns Road Church of Christ with Pastor Tom Bowling officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. 

Flowers will be accepted or contributions can be made to the Caverns Road Church of Christ building fund. “P.O Box 144, Marianna, Fl 32447”.

Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is charge of arrangements.
