Dolores I. (Jones) Mitchell

Dolores I. (Jones) Mitchell, 94, Marianna, Florida, formerly of Morris, Illinois, passed away January 15, 2017, at the Chipola Nursing and Retirement Center in Marianna.

Born January 29, 1922, to David L. Jones, Jr., and Elverda E. (Phillips) Jones in Irvington, Iowa. Dolores was the second oldest daughter in a large family of ten.   She took great pride in her contributions to the war effort during World War II working on the ammunition line at Sanderson and Porter (Joliet Arsenal) and then later as a spot welder on the LST ships at Seneca Shipyard.

Dolores married Wilbur D. “Bud” Mitchell November 8, 1952, in Morris, Illinois, and was the loving mother to two daughters, LuAnn (Jeff) Kindelspire of Marianna, FL and Karen (Gary) Sterling of Custer Park, IL. She worked at The Federal Paper Board and as a waitress at Saratoga Restaurant in Morris, later waitressing at the Holiday Inn in Port Charlotte, Florida and The Caravan in Marianna.   

Her happiest times were spent with family at the annual Jones Family Reunion and other family gatherings.  She enjoyed watching basketball and traveled to North Carolina to watch the NBA Championship Bulls and its all-star players Michael Jordan and Scotty Pippen. Until the age of 90 she bowled regularly on leagues at Kindel Lanes Bowling Center in Marianna, Florida, making many friends along the way.

She is survived by her eldest sister Vivian Hutchins of Michigan and David P. (Judy) Jones of Illinois, and a multitude of nieces and nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Also surviving are her two daughters, their spouses and grandchildren; Jay (Paula) Kindelspire of Ponce De Leon, Florida and their two children Jayla and Janzen, Jason (Kelley) Kindelspire, Marianna, Florida and their daughter Avery, Andy (Tryphaena) Kukman of Janesville, Wisconsin and their children Leah, Cali and Quinn, Amy (Keith) Shannon of Morris, Illinois, and their children Ryan (Jasmine) and their two children Kaeden and Kamden, Jeremy, Brittany and Madison.

Preceding her in death was Bud Mitchell, her husband of 42 years;  her parents;  brothers, Rollan Jones of North Carolina, Donald Jones of Wisconsin, Thomas Jones (at birth), and Robert Jones of Michigan; sisters, Nancy Jones (in infancy), Ann Thoms of Michigan, and Betty Heidenreich of Illinois; brothers-in-law, Horace Hutchins,  Phil Thoms, Fred Heidenreich; and nephew, Timothy Heidenreich. 

Cremation rites were accorded.

A private memorial service and burial is being planned in Marianna, Florida and at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Homes, LTD. and Crematory in Braidwood, IL.  Inurnment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.

Willard Derrill Stewart

Willard Derrill Stewart, 76, of Marianna passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at his residence. 

Willard was born in Marianna on September 21, 1940. As a young man, he served in the Navy and retired from the Alabama Air Force National Guard. He spent the next 32 years working as a supervisor at Dozier School for Boys. Willard was a faithful member of Caverns Road Church of Christ and was a devoted Christian. He is remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend. His caring nature, unique sense of humor and tenacity in life will be missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Sara Lee Barwick Stewart; father, Bryant Stewart; step-mother, Johnnie Mae Stewart; brothers, Hilton, Rufus and Douglas; sisters, Wannell Dunn, Jamaine McCoy, and Shirley Lipford. 

Willard is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Roberta Stewart; three sons, Rick of Cordova, TN, Ron of Jacksonville, FL, and Bobby (wife Shannon) of Marianna; one daughter, Fran Spivey (husband Brian) of Grand Ridge; six grandchildren, Christopher Stewart, Lauren Stewart, Hannah Stewart, Megan Milton (husband Clay), Ren Stewart (wife Megan), and Austin Spivey; three great-grandchildren, Graham, Aidan and Renleigh. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 26, 2017 from 1-2 p.m. at Caverns Road Church of Christ. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. with Rev. Tom Bowling officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Baptist Church Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. 

Flowers will be accepted or contributions in his memory can be made to the Mount Dora Children’s Home at 301 West 13th Avenue, Mount Dora, FL 32757.

Mr. Clarence Lee Johnson, age 96, of Quincy, Florida, passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, Florida. Clarence was born on November 19, 1920 Jackson County to James and Trudy Johnson. He was an orderly for the Florida State Hospital. He is preceded in death by his wife, Clyde Johnson.

He is survived by: 5 children: Sylvia Mayfield and husband Roger, of Myakka City, Florida, Christine Alford and husband Tommy, of Quincy, Florida, Betty Elliott, of Quincy, Florida, Thomas Beauchamp, of Snellville, Georgia, Roy E. Beauchamp and his wife Olivia, of Tampa, Florida. 

9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren. Several brothers, sisters, and a host of nieces and nephews.  

 Funeral services will be held Graveside Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM (CST) at Waldorf Cemetery in Grand Ridge, Florida, with Pastor Matt Basford officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 from 11:00 AM (CST) until 12:00 PM (CST) at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, Florida. All arrangements are under the direction of Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, FL.

Ms. Nisa L. Brown of Marianna, FL transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Thursday, January 12, 2017 in Jackson Hospital.  She was a member of Antioch African Methodist Episcopal Church.  She was employed with Jackson County School Board as a Paraprofessional.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church 2891 Orange Street, Marianna, FL with Rev. Ronald D. Mizer, Pastor, Rev. Douglas Jones, Rev. Leroy Hall, Rev. Hollis McClendon, Presiding Elder James H. Davis and Pastor Adrian Staley, officiating.  Interment in the Antioch Cemetery. Vann Funeral Home was in charge.

Mr. Nickalist Mares Lang, Jr., 26 of Marianna, FL, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 16, 2017 in Cottondale, FL

Nick was baptized at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Marianna, FL under the leadership of Rev. Darryl Johnson.  He was a great and loving father to his kids. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew and friend.  He loved the Florida Gators Football team.

Vivian Canant Cobb, 88, of Marianna died Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A native of Ohio, Mrs. Cobb had resided in Marianna for the past 59 years where along with her late husband, James E. (Edd) Cobb they founded, operated and formerly owned Cobb Front End and Tire Service.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James E. (Edd) Cobb; her parents, Ollie and Gladys Canant; brothers, Jr., George and a sister, Dorothy Canant.

Survivors includes her daughter, Peggy Linton; son, Larry Cobb and wife Teri of Marianna, Fl; one sister, Carole Canant Rogers and husband, Jim of Alford, FL; one brother, Phillip Canant and wife, Barbra of Charleston SC; grandchildren, Melissa Linton, Kristy and husband, Shawn Williams, Jake and wife, Leslie Linton, Sandy and husband, Brandon Tyus, Lacey Patterson, Josie and husband, Joey Register, Casey and husband, Cody Green, Melanie Cobb and Levi Cobb; 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Bishop Raines was the Pastor and founder of the United New Jerusalem Church of Jesus Christ in Mt. Pleasant, Florida. He was also the Chief and Founder of United New Jerusalem Church of Jesus Christ, Incorporated.

Stefanie Kent Pittman

Mrs. Stefanie Kent Pittman, 49 of Jacob City, Florida, a native of Chipley, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in the Jackson Hospital of Marianna, Florida.  

Stefanie was born on February 15, 1967 to Rose Brigham Kent and Mathis Kent in Bonifay, Florida.  She was educated in the public school system of Washington County, graduating from Chipley High School.  She was employed with Home Health Care, bringing joy and smiles to every patient that she rendered service to.  She loved to be around her family and close friends, and truly lived her life to the fullest of its extent.     

Stefanie was of the Baptist denomination and was a member of the St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church of Jacob City, Florida under the leadership of Rev. Obadiah White.   She was taught and raised in the Mt. Ararat First Missionary Baptist Church of Chipley, Florida under the pastorate of Rev. H.G. McCollough.  She was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and will truly be missed by all that loved her.

James J. Birch known as Uncle Buster to his family, 90, died the evening of January 19, 2017 at Jackson Hospital with heart complications and pneumonia.

James was born August 4, 1926 in Cottondale, Florida. He retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service. He graduated from Marianna High School, Tallahassee Community College, and the University of South Florida. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Bruner Birch; his parents, Reuben and Carrie Dilmore Birch, and sister, Ruby Birch Christmas. James is survived by a niece, Susan Holley Kunde (Van); nephew, Randy Holley (Janice) and their families. Memorialization will be by cremation with a family service to be at a later date. James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

The Reverend Doctor Ernest J. Only of Marianna, Florida transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on Thursday, January 26, 2017 in Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

The Reverend Doctor Only was a member of the Greater Buckhorn Missionary Baptist Church. He was a retired United States Air Force veteran. To know him was to love him. 

Homegoing Celebration services will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM from the sanctuary of the New Galilee Missionary Baptist Church located at 2155 Highway 73 in Marianna, Florida where the Reverend Mark Dudley is the pastor with the Reverend Deblasis DeRon Johnson, the Reverend Dr. Samuel Everett, Minister Tony Hall, the Reverend Adrian D. Abner, and Pastor William Harvey officiating. Interment in the Buckhorn Cemetery in Marianna, Florida. Vann Funeral Home in charge.

Dr. Only will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until time for the service.

A viewing will be held from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Vann Funeral Home.

Mrs. Glory Jean Madison Dean of Dothan, AL departed this life on Friday, January 27, 2017.

On Friday, January 27, 2017, God called our beloved daughter, mom, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend from labor to reward. She was born on March 7,1953 to the late Cleo and Ethel Mae Madison. At an early age she accepted Christ as her Savior, and she cherished her walk with him for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist church in Webb Alabama. Glory worked at Edge Water High school as the head cook for 8 years. She loved preparing amazing big meals for her family as well.

Sister Glory Dean was preceded in death by her late husband Johnny Dean, Jr.; One daughter Rose Dean; parents Cleo and Ethel Mae Madison; three brothers Henry Madison, Cleo Madison, Jr. and Robert Earl Madison; father and mother-in-law: Johnny and Eva Lou Dean.

She leaves to cherish her memories: two sons Marlon and Michael dean all of Orlando, FL; sisters and brothers: Donella (Marcus) Taylor AL, Gracie Lee Mitchell of Orlando, FL, Ernest (Peggy) Madison, and Willie Frank (Patricia) Madison all of Orlando FL; Lester (Johneice), and Don Madison all of Slocomb AL; two sisters-in-law Francis Madison of Dothan and Tinese Dean Ft. Mr. George Henry Lewis, Sr., age 68, of Graceville, FL departed this life on Saturday, January 28, 2017 in Marianna, Florida.

He professed Christ at an early age and joined McChapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Marianna, Florida. Brother Lewis attended Union Grove High School where he graduated in 1966. He joined the military (United States Army) on January 25, 1968, in which he had an honored career and retired on February 1, 1988. He received an certificate from the US Army-Unit Level Logistics System (1975); Yongsan, South Korea (January 14, 1976); Diploma as a Wheel Vehicle Mechanic Noncommissioned Office, US Army Ordinance Center and School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland (June 23, 1976); Certificate of Completion from the United States Army Transportation School of Transportability, Fort Eustis, Virginia Planning Course (December 17, 1980); Received a Diploma in Mechanical Maintenance (NCO Advance Course) US Army Ordinance Center and School, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland (April 8, 1981); Received a Certificate of Training on the (HSTRU), Fort Bragg, North Carolina (August 23, 1985); Received Certificate of Training on Support and Organization Maintenance CUCV Family of Vehicle from the United States Army TACOM, Warren, Michigan           

 Later in life he met his soulmate and was joined in Holy Matrimony to Deloris Snelling. To this union three loving children were born.

Brother Lewis was greeted in the Heavenly gates by his parents; aunt: Katherine Lewis; a sister, Ethel F. Collins; and brother, William Lee Lewis, Jr. (identical twin).

His children: Sharnesia E. Lewis, George H. Lewis, Jr., and Robert J. Lewis all of Hinesville, Georgia; grandchildren: Nathanael R. Lewis, Robert J. Lewis, Jr., and M’harnesia S. Lewis; three sisters: Lottie B. (Emanuel) Spires, Marianna, Florida, Mamie L. (Jody) Russ, Campbellton, Florida and Ethel F. (Clifford) Collins of Canto, Maryland; two brothers: Charles Edward Lewis, Marianna, Florida and Robert Allen (Anita) Lewis, Fayetteville, North Carolina; aunts: Nina Long, Greenwood, Florida and ;  nieces and nephews: James, Tammy, Reginald, Travis, Jason, Jordan, Shakira and Whindleton “Robert Jr.”; other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, February 3, 2017, 4-7 PM, in the M. Sue & Rodney D. Pittman Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, FL.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 4, 2017, 1:00 PM, at McChapel AME Church, Marianna, Florida with Reverend Dr. M. L. Jackson, officiating. He will be laid to rest in the church cemetery, with full military honors, under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, FL.

Mrs. Altermease Williams age 78 of Campbellton, Florida passed away Friday, January 27th at the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama.  The Funeral Service will be            2 p. m., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at New Bethel C. M. E. Church located at 2487 Hwy 2 Campbellton, FL, where Reverend Freeman Walker is pastor/officiating, Memorialization  will be by cremation  with McKinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton directing.

Visitation will held from 4:00 to 6:00 p. m. Friday, February 3rd at The McKinnie Funeral Home Chapel. 

Altermease Vicks Williams was the second child, born to the late Alton Terry Vicks and Luberta Young Vicks in Campbellton, FL. She attended and graduated from St. Paul High School and accepted Christ as her personal savior.  She was married to Lenoris Williams, and to this union one child was born.  She lived in Newark, NJ for many years and then relocated to Muncie, IN and pursued a career in retail sales until she retired a few years ago.

She was preceded in death by Her Husband; Her Parents; One Son; and Three Siblings.

Eric Griffin Pastor Presiding,   His son Rev. Randy McMillan Eulogist, Reverends AL Davis, George Bowers, Eddie Bowers and Minister Cleo Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Orange Hill Cemetery in Marianna, FL with Military Honors and with Mckinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton directing. Deacon McMillan will lie in repose at the church one hour before service time. The family will receive friends at the Union Hill Missionary Baptist Church located 3115 Union Hill Road Marianna, FL. Friday February 03, 2017 from 5 to 7p.m.  

Deacon Lloyd McMillan was born on January 5, 1939 in Ft. Meade, FL to the late Lloyd D. McMillan II and Helen Beckford McMillan. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined New Galilee M.B. Church in Ft. Meade. On November 20, 1961 he joined the United States Army.

On July 21, 1962, he was united in holy matrimony to Florida Bell and to this union three children were born.

He moved from Washington, DC to Marianna Florida and he joined the Union Hill M. B. Church ordained as a Deacon, and served faithfully until his death. 

He was preceded in death by His Father: Lloyd McMillan, Jr.; His Mother: Helen Beckford; His Stepfather: Lebert Beckford; His Siblings: Leatrice Franklin, 

Theodore and Lorenzo McMillan. 

He is survived by His Loving Wife of 54 years: Florida Bell McMillan;  His Three Children: Ronald S. McMillan of Marianna, FL; Reverend Randy McMillan (Sharon) of Alford, FL; Yolanda McMillan-Oates (Alonzo) of Mount Pleasant, FL. Nine Grandchildren: Terohn Payne (Rachael) of Panama City, FL; Asia McMillan of Orlando, FL; Randyn McMillan of Ft. David Ham, age 67, of Newman, GA passed away Monday, January 30, 2017 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital surrounded by family.

Mr. Ham was born April 28, 1949 in Inwood, FL to the late James Ham and Stella Ham.

Survivors include his loving wife, Carol Cross Ham; children, Dawn Rice, Amy Rowell, Emma Ham, David J. Ham and Carol Lynn Ham. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and two sisters Charlotte Lott and Ginger Winget.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the Inwood Baptist Church in Grand Ridge.  Interment will follow in Carpenter Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home MaddoxChapel directing.

Marilyn J. Kelly, 83, Born May 17, 1933 in Mattoon ILL., died January 30, 2017 in Marianna, FL. Jackson County. 

A long time resident of Orlando, FL. Mrs. Kelly has resided in Jackson County since 2008. She was a housewife and a longtime active member as one of Jehovaa’s Witnessess and was a graduate of Winter Park High.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Kelly, Jr.; parents, George B. and Mildred Higgens Crum, sister, Shirley C. Cheek; Brother, George Lee Crum all of Orlando, FL.

Survivors include, daughter, Karen D. Register and husband Joseph from Cottondale, FL.; son, Jeffery K. Kelly (Texas), grandson, Jospeh T. Regester and wife Kate of Hudson, FL., Ayla Kelly Cov., Washington, Amber Kelly (Texas). Several great-grand children. 

Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens on Woodlawn Cemetery Rd. Gotha, FL. with Lorenzo Cates officiating.
