Louise Baker

Ms. Louise Baker, age 83, of Marianna, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 29th in the comfort of her home with her family at her side.

 She was a native and life long resident  of Jackson County, Florida.  She was an active member of the Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church.  She was employed at the Sunland Center as a vocational instructor until her retirement in 1997.

 Loving and cherished memories will always remain with her family, to include: three sons, Harris L. Baker (Gloria) of Marianna, Florida, Ret. MSGT Jeffery J. Baker (Pamela) of Summerville, South Carolina and Dexter L. Baker (Leah) of Tallahassee, Florida; two daughters, Debra A. Baker of Marianna, Florida and Beverly Renea Granberry (Chephus) of Greenwood, Florida; three sisters, Kate Long, Elizabeth Leonard both of Marianna, Florida and Mildred Worlds of Clearwater, Florida; ten grandchildren, AG Travis B. Baker (Andrea) of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Shannon T. Colston, Christopher J. Colston both of Tallahassee, Florida, Brandon M. Baker of Gainesville, Florida, Jasmyne Colston of Tallahassee, Florida, Darius J. Baker of Columbia, South Carolina, Brianna R. Granberry of Tallahassee, Florida, Danielle N. Baker of Marianna, Florida, Cydney D. Granberry of Greenwood, Florida and Na’Zihia H. Betsey of Marianna, Florida; three great grandchildren, Summer E. Colston of Tallahassee, Florida, Emil H. Baker and Mila A. Baker both of Kaiserslautern, Germany; special cousin, Jennie Gammons of Marianna, Florida; nieces, nephews, other cousins, relatives and special friends.

 A homegoing celebration will be held Saturday, December 4th at 12 noon at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Dwight Cockerham, Sr., Rev. Travis Ephriam, Rev. David Cobb, Rev. Anthony Granberry and Bishop B.C. Graham officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery with arrangements entrusted to the Caring Staff at Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna.

Samuel Addison Powell, Jr.

Samuel Addison Powell, Jr., known to his friends and family as Tony, 74 passed away Saturday November 26, 2016, at Malcolm Randall V.A. Hospital. 

Samuel was born May 2, 1942 in High Springs, Florida to Samuel Powell Sr. and Reola Chaney. Samuel was raised by Claiborne and Maxine Sapp in Marianna, Florida where he enjoyed growing up with all his friends. He married Antoinette (Toni) Mira in 1963, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and later worked as a sales engineer in the electrical motor industry. 

Samuel went home to be with his beloved wife Toni, his gentle grandson Joey and his parents. He is survived by his half-brother Edwin Powell and half-sister Sheila Powell, his first son Clay Powell and wife Teresa Powell and his second born son Christopher Powell and wife Angel Powell. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Rena Hodge, Candis Archer, Benjamin and David Powell.

Memorialization will be by cremation with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in charge of arrangements. Tony wanted to be remembered as he was, “My old loveable handsome self”.

Mrs. Eunice Mildred Ranew, 93, a native of Youngstown, Florida and lifelong resident of Jackson County, Florida, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 30, 2016.  She was a retired Charge Aide with the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, Florida.  She was of the Holiness Faith and attended Sneads Assembly of God Church.  Eunice was a faithful homemaker and beloved Mother, Aunt and Grandmother.  Her quilting and canning abilities were well known along with her love of gardening and fishing.

Eunice is survived by her son, Irving Ranew and his wife Shirley of Sneads, Florida;  her brother-in-law, Tommy Barfoot and sister-in-law, Betty Weeks, both of Sneads;  grandchildren, Gary Smith and wife Rhonda of Marianna, Deanna Orshall and husband Tommy, Kevin Ranew and wife Dusty of Greenwood, Misty Ranew and fiancé Neal Williams of Sneads, and Wendy Eubanks and husband Cy of Blountstown; great-grandchildren, Lauren Smith of Marianna, Dustin Gay, Logan Smith, Devin Ranew, Dylan Ranew and Lucas Ranew of Greenwood, Mackenzie and Cydnee Eubanks of Blountstown; three great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Wesley Ranew of Sneads; a son Ronald Ranew and wife Nancy of Sneads; sisters, Leona Barfoot of Sneads and Ruth Smith of Bossier City, LA.; a brother Frank Weeks of Sneads, and a nephew Tim Barfoot of Sneads.

Visitation with the family will take place Friday, December 2, 2016, from 10:00 till 11:00 AM CST, at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home Chapel in Sneads, Florida, with Funeral Services at 11:00.  Rev. Juno Douglas will be officiating.  Committal and Interment Services will follow at Pope Cemetery in Sneads.

Mr. Terry Roberts age 58 of Graceville, FL  passed away Tuesday November 29, 2016 in Emerald Coast Center in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.             

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the McKinnie Funeral Home Chapel located at 5304 Bowden Hill Road Campbellton, FL, with the Reverend David Britt and Elder Carolyn Morgan officiating.  Interment will follow in the Graceville Community Cemetery in Graceville, FL with McKinnie Funeral Home of Campbellton directing.

Terry Lee Roberts was born to the late Joseph Roberts and Millie B. Roberts on November 19, 1958 in Graceville, Florida.  He went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at Emerald Coast Rehabilitation Facility in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his father: Joseph Roberts, his Sister: Julia Lawrence, his Brothers: Edward and Tyrone Johnson.

He is survived by his Brothers: Len E. Roberts of Graceville, Florida and Josh Smith of Delray, Florida; His Sister: Katherine Johnson of Graceville, Florida; and His Stepmother: Rozena Roberts of Daytona Beach, Florida and a host of other family members and friends.

Mrs. Bonnie Teresa Wright, 68, a 30 year resident of Sneads, Florida passed away peacefully Friday, December 2, 2016.  She was a retired Nurse with Bay Medical Sacred Heart in Panama City, Florida. She was a member of Sneads Assembly of God Church.   Bonnie was a faithful homemaker and beloved wife, mother, aunt and grandmother.  Bonnie’s quilting and crafting abilities were well known along with her love of flower gardening. Bonnie loved her grandchildren dearly and spending time with them.

Bonnie is survived by her husband of 50 years, David (Nick) Wright; two sons, David Stephen Wright and his wife Amber of Panama City, Florida, and Gary Michael Wright of Sneads, Florida; two brothers, Francis Douthit of Haines City, Florida and Robert Douthit of Sneads, Florida; one half-brother, Randy Douthit of Macon, GA; three grandchildren, Jacob Wright, Justin Wright, and Audrey Wright all of Panama City, Florida and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at Sneads First Assembly of God Church on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 6:00 PM CST with Rev. Juno Douglas officiating.

Barbara R. Fears

Barbara R. Fears, 76, of Greenwood, died Friday, December 2, 2016 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Barbara was born in Steubenville, OH to the late Homer and Iona McMillian Alvis on December 31, 1939. She later moved to Greenwood where she was a secretary for Sunland.

She was preceded in death by her son, Joe Randall “Buddy” Harlow and daughter, Laura Beth Harlow Leigh.

She is survived by her husband, Roland Fears; daughters, Libby Ann Nichols, Lisa Brook Wyatt and Traci L. Fears; brother, Richard Alvis; sisters, Marjorie Singletary and Theta Lolley; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Lovedale Baptist Church with Dr. Steve Canada officiating. Interment at 2 p.m. in Calloway Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.

Mrs. Lettie Mae Miles, age 94 passed away Friday, December 2, 2016.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2016 at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Joe Wood officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home in Graceville directing.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Mrs. ettie Mae was a life long resident of Graceville and lived 60 years in the house her husband built. She was a long time member of the Graceville First Assembly of God Church. 

Predeceased by her husband Dallas Miles, son Robert Miles and her parents James Robert Barrentine and Liller Bell Grice Barrentine.

She is survived by daughter Shirley Broyhill and husband Mike; son Ralph Miles and wife Melba; daughter-in-law Betty Miles; sister Mavis Rabb; five grandchildren Rodney Carlson, Sherri Johnson, Donna Snow, DeWayne Miles, Todd Miles; six great grandchildren

Mrs. Sellie Lee Williams, age 86, of Marianna, FL, Holyneck Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, AL.

She was a native of Jackson County, FL and a member of the Holyneck Missionary Baptist Church, Marianna, FL.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her children: Katie Mae Dickens of Saint Petersburg, FL, Mack C. Williams and wife Annie of Saint Petersburg, FL and Matthew J. Williams of Marianna, FL; fourteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; a special grandson, Bruce; sisters: Annie Bell Sorey of Marianna, Viola Baker and Mary Smith both of Quincy, FL, Gwen Daniels of Rochester, NY and Allie Ree Daniels of Los Angeles, CA and a brother, Albert Daniels of Graceville, FL; a host of nieces, nephews cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, December 9, 2016, 1PM-7PM, at the funeral home.

The remains will be placed in the church one hour prior to services.

Funeral services will be 11AM, Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Holyneck Missionary Baptist Church, Marianna Holyneck Community. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, FL.

Mrs. Mary A. Cotton Bell, age 66, of Bradenton, Florida and formerly of Campbellton, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 28, 2016 in the Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton.

She was born November 29, 1949 to Annais Cotton and Nebraska Johnson in Dothan, AL.

 She is survived by her siblings: John Cotton of Brandon, FL, Sarah Lowe of Palmetto, FL, Betty Cotton-Myrick of St. Petersburg, FL and Bettye Richardson (Johnny) of Parrish, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be 2:30 PM, Sunday, December 11, 2016, at the Saint Paul AME Church Cemetery in Campbellton, FL under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, FL.

Rev. Austin D. Bell, Jr., age 85, of Crestview passed away Monday December 05, 2016 at the Shoal Creek Rehabilitation Center in Crestview, Florida. He was born December 14, 1930 in Bonifay, Florida too Austin D. Bell, Sr., and Nina Mae (Wilson) Bell. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday December 10, 2016 ~11 a.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church located at 603 Martin Luther King Jr., Avenue Crestview, FL. Rev. Bell will lie in repose at Macedonia MB Church Saturday one hour prior to the start of service. Rev. Bell leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife Mary (Dickens) Bell; children; grand children; and a host of other relatives and friends. Interment will follow at Springhill Cemetery, Crestview, Florida with McKinnie Funeral Home Crestview Directing.

Gwendolyn Glover, 81, of Marianna, died Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Jackson Hospital.

Mrs. Glover was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Glover and her parents, Clyde and Essie Riley; brother, Harold Riley; sister, Sue Glover. She is survived by two sons, Neil Glover and Brennan Glover; one brother, Ronald Riley and wife Cindy of Russellville, AL; one sister, Ann Dorriety and husband, Bob of Defuniak Springs; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, William, Laurence, Bren and Emily; sister in law, Charlotte Riley. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Friday, December 9, 2016 at James & Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel with Rev. Roland Rabon officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Linda “Carolyn” Mayo

Linda “Carolyn” Mayo age 74 of Marianna passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on April 20, 1942 in Marianna. Carolyn worked at Sunland Center, where she enjoyed working with the clients for twenty-eight years and retired as a supervisor over Unit 1. Carolyn had many hobbies which included reading, making floral arrangements and other crafts, listening to gospel music and attending “The Singing Regals” gospel sings. She loved her son Ricky and grandson Dustin dearly. Carolyn also enjoyed spending time with her poodle “Baby Girl.”

Carolyn was preceded in death by her father, Willie T. Joiner; brother, Tommy Joiner; an infant daughter and great-granddaughter Corinne Russell. She is survived by her mother Marie Joiner, son Ricky Russell, and grandson Dustin Russell (Aly Temple).  Carolyn is also survived by two brothers Clayton Joiner (Rachel) and Bobby Joiner (Rhonda); sisters Betty Sue Bragg, Shirley Gill (George), Barbara Pumphrey (Ray) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Carolyn will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home at 12:00 p.m. with Chaplain Gino Mayo officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Gardens cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

James Wayne Mears

James Wayne Mears, 66, of Cypress, FL., died Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Bay Medical Center in Panama City, FL.

Wayne was born in Marianna, and remained a lifelong native of Jackson County. He was a graduate of Marianna High School, and served in the U.S. Armed Forces. He was a graduate of Chipola College and Florida State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and a minor in English.

Wayne was an avid sportsman, and a talented ballplayer. Among his achievements, awards, and recognitions, were- “First-Team, All-American, All-Time Baseball Record, 1974.” at Chipola College. Wayne also received the prestigious, “All-Time Letterman, 1975.” at Florida State University. Wayne’s sports legacy remains archived, and will always be remembered throughout the history of Florida State Baseball.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, J.H. and Lucille Mears, and two sisters, Doris Alday and Estella Bishop. Survivors include his sons, James Wayne Mears Jr. (Jay) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Jered Thomas Mears (JT) of Tallahassee, FL., Christopher Wayne Mears (Sockafer) of Cypress, FL., and John Michael Mears (Mikey) of Ft. Worth, TX.; one grandson, Joshua Mears; one brother, Ralph Mears of Cypress, FL., and three sisters, Jean Hevener and Husband Don of Tullahoma, TN.; Martha Jo Rogers and husband, Donnie of Cypress, FL.; and Marsha “Bootsie” Conrad and husband, Steve of Cypress, FL.; Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 3 o’clock PM CST with Rev. David Pippin, officiating. The services will be held at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home, on HWY 90 East in Sneads, FL. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Sandi Renee (Adams) Adkins, 52, of Grand Ridge died Saturday, December 10, 2016 at her residence.

Sandi enjoyed crafting, antiquing and cooking, but loved animals and spending time with her family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Royce Horace and Dorothy Jean (Robbirds) Adams. She is survived by her husband, William Robert Adkins of Grand Ridge; two daughters, Samantha Adkins of Grand Ridge, Madeline Brimer and husband, Corey of Lynn Haven; one brother, Charles "Chuck" Adams and wife, Julie of Jay; one sister, Debbie Saphire and husband, Jonathan of Port St. Joe and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Private services will be held at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sandi's name to Partners for Pets, 4011 Maintenance Drive, Marianna, Fl 32446.

Abbie J. Olvera, 59, of Grand Ridge died Monday, December 12, 2016 at her residence. 

Abbie was born in Chattahoochee, Fl and lived in this area all of her life. Her hobbies include reading and telling stories, but most of all loved her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Inocente Olvera; son, Tony Olvera; daughter, Jessica Varnum and husband, Kevin; grandchildren, Isabella Varnum, Sophia Varnum, Grace Varnum, Preston Olvera, Jaxon Olvera and Noah Olvera all of Grand Ridge.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. (EST) Friday, December 16, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church of Chattahoochee with Rev. Mark Moore officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Chattahoochee, Fl with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Alma Louise Williams, 88 of Hartford, AL formerly of Southport, FL, went to her Heavenly home Monday, December 12, 2016.

 Home-going service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at the Chapel of James & Lipford Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow in Marvin Chapel Cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home directing.

 Family will receive friends at the funeral home 10 a.m. until time of service.

 Ms. Alma was born in Holmes County, FL on January 25, 1928 to the late David Glass and Thelma Lee Wilson Glass. An Alumni of Poplar Springs High School, Ms. Alma had a servants heart and was a caregiver to many people over the years. She was a member of Calloway First Baptist Church.

She is predeceased by her husband Charles Quinton “C.Q.” Williams and one son David Hicks.

 She is survived by two daughters Sandra Ortiz, Pensacola, FL, Jane Oder and husband Charles, Dothan, AL; brother Hubert Glass, Chicago, IL; sister Mary Phillips, Dothan; three grandchildren Tony Ortiz, Michael (Julie) Scarborough, Chrissy (Ronnie) Wessinger; six great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews.

Alice “Laverne” Taylor age 65 of Jackson County passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2016 in Flowers Hospital. 

Laverne was born March 2, 1951 to the late Price Burch and Mattie Conner. She was a native of Jackson County and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  Laverne enjoyed making floral arrangements and crafts. She loved being around people and volunteering at the VFW.

Laverne was preceded in death by her father, husband Farrell Taylor, brother Lynwood Price Burch, 2 infant brothers, and an infant sister.

She is survived by her mother Mattie Conner, brother Wendell Burch (Lynn), sisters Shirley Simmons, and Hazel Russ (Loyd). Laverne is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Services for Laverne will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, December 15, 2016 in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until time of service.

Mother Lillie Harris, age 105, of Greenwood, FL transitioned from life temporal to life eternal on December 10, 2016 in Jackson Hospital with her family at her bedside.

She was a member of the Greater Buckhorn Missionary Baptist Church of Marianna, FL.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at the Greater Buckhorn Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. William Harvey, Pastor and Rev. Waymond Roulhac, Officiating.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Vann Funeral Home will be in charge of the service.

Mother Harris will lie in repose at the church from 11:00 A.M. until tie for the service.

The family will receive friends at Vann Funeral Home Friday, December 16, 2016 from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
