Johnny Green Bulzer

Johnny Green Bulzer

Johnny Green Bulzer age 83 of Marianna passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019 in the Marianna Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on August 14,1935 in Altha, Florida and had lived most of his life in Jackson County. Johnny served his country proudly in the United States Airforce from 1952 to 1962. He continued his career in the military serving in the National Guard in Apalachicola as a supply Sergeant. Johnny married his bride on August 2, 1958 and would work as a mail contractor for 30 plus years. He enjoyed working, traveling, photography, and vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents Minnie Lee Green and step-father James Gordon Edenfield, daughter Jessie Mae Bulzer, maternal grandmother Evie Bailey Green and step grandfather Floyd Hires.

Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Jernearl “Jerry” Stephens Bulzer, children Darlene Tanner and husband Fred, John Mark Bulzer,  Doug Bulzer and wife Janice, sister Annette Bontrager, grandchildren Jennifer, Jessica, Bobby Lee, Meagan, and Samantha, several great grandchildren, a host of extended family, nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. Bulzer will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 9, 2018 at Marvin Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Irvin Jennison officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors given. Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until time of service.

Rufus R. Miles, Sr.

Rufus R. Miles, Sr., 83, of Dothan, died Friday, March 8, 2019.

Rufus was born April 11, 1935 in Jackson County to the late Rufus and Essie Mae Wynn Miles. He retired from the U.S. Army with 24 years of service in communication signal. Rufus was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Chipley, Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing.

Rufus is preceded in death by brothers, JB and Howard Miles; and sisters, Syble Braswell and Sarah Broxton.

He is survived by wife, Doris Miles; son, Richard Miles Jr; three daughters, Vicki Henderson and Gina Elmore of Graceville, and Kathie Birge of Marianna; sisters, Juanita Turner and Salatha Lassiter; 8 grandchildren; stepsons, John and Terry Henderson, and Gene Galloway; step daughter, Patricia Ann McCarthy; seven step grandchildren and one step great grandchild. 

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at James & Lipford Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Chester Padgett officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Assembly of God Church Cemetery with James & Lipford Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at James & Lipford Funeral Home Chapel.

Bruce Harold Koenig

Bruce Harold Koenig age 81 of Marianna passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at Jackson Hospital. He was born to the late Harold Fredrick and Melba Morris Koenig. Bruce was preceded in death by his son Brian Charles Koenig. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Christian Koenig, daughter Karen Koenig Mooney, sister Barbara Koenig, grandson Ashton Michael Mooney, and numerous relatives and friends.

Bruce graduated from Oak Park High School and Iowa State University Department of Agriculture. He went in the Marines, then returned to Iowa State University and graduated from the School of Veterinary Medicine. Bruce’s career as an equine veterinarian was mainly at the racetracks in New York. He went to the Kentucky Derby with Air Forbs One. Bruce also worked as a veterinarian for the annual Old Glory Horse Sale at Younkers Raceway. He also treated hunters and jumpers. Bruce chose the horses to start the Nassau County Mounted Unit. He was later honored by them for 22 years of service.

Bruce enjoyed hunting, was an avid boater and fisherman.  He and his family spent a lot of time out on the water cruising and fishing from the boat. Bruce was a Webelo leader when son Brian was in the Boy Scouts. In his younger years Bruce was afraid of flying. To conquer this, he took flying lessons and got his pilot license. He, with his family did a lot of traveling by plane.

Bruce had a big heart and has helped many people in their time of need. He was a devoted husband and loving father who enjoyed spending time with his family at home and on vacation.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at the Marianna Presbyterian Church with Pastor John Wamsley officiating on March 23, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until time of service followed by a reception in the fellowship hall.

George Barnes

George Barnes

Mr. George Barnes of Marianna, Florida went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2019.

He was a member of Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Marianna and the son of the late Josephine and Charlie Barnes of Marianna, Florida. He was a 1981 graduate of Marianna Adult Education.

Mr. Barnes was a longtime employee of Riverside Elementary School. He was loved by the students and staff of the school and will be missed.

He may have lost his battle to cancer, but he won his crown. He loved the Lord, his family, and his Riverside family. The hallway in the front is lined with notes from our children that loved him so much.

He is survived by wife: Diane Barnes; children: Mick, Erica and Xavier; grandchildren: Kemarien, Xavion, Paetyn, Cassie and Avery; siblings: Aggie Wynn, Barbara B. Williams (Nathaniel), Emma Spires, Randy D. Barnes, Emelda Davis, Timothy C. Barnes (Tina), Daphne R. Freeman (Raymond) and Marjan L. Green (Horace); sisters and brothers-in-law: Shirley Sims, Lora Keys, Ronnie Elijah, Lonnie Elijah, Steve McNealy (Renia) and Robert Keys (Cynthia); aunts and uncles: Julia Wynn, Christell Keys, Barbara Wilson (Reverend Richard) and Joseph Harrington; goddaughter, Natalie Spires; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including his Riverside Elementary School family.

Everything that has a beginning has an ending. If life of any man began, a time will come when it must end, because there is a time when it was not. Man is not the body, not the soul, he is a spirit, and part of the great God, and we all must return unto him.

Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Friday, March 15, 2019 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Marianna, Florida.

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. Luke Missionary Baptist  Church with the Reverend Riley J. Henderson, pastor/teacher.

He will be laid to rest in the Orange Hill Cemetery in Marianna, FL under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Rafael Antonio Monagas, Jr.

Rafael Antonio Monagas, Jr., of Chipley, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on March 7, 2019 in the comfort of his home.  He was 53 years old and a native of Brooklyn, New York. 

Rafael was born on May 12, 1965 to Sonia Mirella Merriel and Rafael Antonio Monagas, Sr. in Brooklyn, New York.  He was a jack of many trades, helping anyone in the community.  He will be truly missed. 

He leaves to cherish his memories his parents: Sonia Merriel (James) of Chipley, Florida and Rafael Monagas, Sr. of Orlando, Florida; daughter: Alicia Monagas of Brooklyn, New York; son: Antonio Monagas of Chipley, Florida; three grandchildren; three sisters: Joann Monagas of Brooklyn, New York, Wanda Jenkins (John) and Milagios Monagas, both of Centereach, New York; along with a host of other relatives and friends. 

A Celebration of Rafael’s Life will be held 1 PM CST, Tuesday, March 12, 2019 from the sanctuary of the Grace Assembly of God Church in Chipley, Florida with pastor, Rev. Dallas Pettis, officiating.  Committal Services will be held Monday, March 18, 2019 in New York with Cooper Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida, and Borinquen Memorial Funeral Home of Brooklyn, New York, directing.

Ms. Roberta Daniels, 59, of Greenwood, Florida went home to be with the Lord on March 3, 2019 at Jackson Hospital in Marianna, Florida.

She was born December 13, 1959 to Ida Mae Daniels and the late Chesterfield Daniels. She was a native of Jackson County and a member of Greenwood Chapel AME Church in Greenwood, Florida.

She is survived by her children, Ida Daniels and Aaron Aydelotte (Kimberley); two brothers: Willie Roy Daniels and Edward Daniels; two sisters: Shirley Pittman and Gloria Highsmith; ten grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 3-6 PM, Friday, March 15, 2019 at the funeral home.

Funeral services will be 1 PM, Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Greenwood Chapel AME Church in Greenwood, FL with the Reverend Blanche Godwin, pastor, officiating.

She will be laid to rest in the Nubbin Ridge Cemetery in Greenwood, FL under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, FL.

Mrs. Dollie Mae Douglas, age 102, of Panama City, Florida went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at the Silvercrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crestview, Florida.

She was a native of Slocomb, Alabama and the daughter of the late Charlie Sr. and Arleana Smith. She was a member of Saint John Missionary Baptist Church of Panama City, Florida.

Mrs. Dollie was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Strauss Douglas, the mother of the late Mattye Sue Douglas Pittman and the grandmother of the late Rodney D. Pittman of Graceville, Florida.

She is survived by one sister, Martha Ford of Camden, New Jersey; her son-in-law: Donald J. Pittman of Graceville, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, March 18, 2019 from 9:00 am until funeral service time at 11:00 am in the chapel of Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, 1021 N Cove Blvd, Panama City, Florida with the Reverend Delwynn Williams, pastor/teacher officiating.

She will be laid to rest in the Hillside Cemetery in Panama City, FL under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, FL.

Joseph Michael Hamm

Lieutenant Colonel USAR Joseph Michael Hamm, 69, surrounded by family, passed away on March 10, 2019, after a brief illness with cancer.  Memorial services will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Culley’s Funeral Home on Riggins Road, Tallahassee, Fl.  Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until noon, with a memorial to be held from noon until 1:00 pm, followed by  military services at 2:00 pm at Tallahassee National Cemetery with military honors.

Michael  was born on September 12, 1949, in Marianna, Florida, to Joseph Grady Hamm, Jr., and Eloise Hollis Hamm.  He attended school in Marianna, graduating from Mariana High School in 1967.  He excelled academically, as well as in sports.  He attended Chipola Junior College on a tennis scholarship, graduating in 1969.  He attended Florida State University and graduated in April 1971 with a B. S. in Criminology.  While attending FSU, he was active in the Army ROTC and following  graduation and completion of basic training was commissioned a Lieutenant, starting a 28 year career in the Army Reserves.

In 1972, Michael began working with the State of Florida, starting as a probation officer with DOC, and later moving to the Florida Parole Commission where he finished his 35 year career as a Regional Administrator.

Michael loved fishing, duck hunting, Florida State sports, and preparing his special food dishes for others, especially ducks and shucking oysters.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Pamela Henderson Hamm.  He is survived by his children and grandchildren, including daughter Paige Hamm (Matthew) Cohen of Wesley Chapel, step-daughters Anne Eldridge (Charles) Harden of Sopchoppy and Dana Eldridge (Wrenn) Harvey of Crawfordville, step-son Matthew (Jessica) Eldridge, and grandchildren Jonah and Marina Harvey, Valerie, Chance and Sarah Harden, and Elijah and Levi Cohen.   Also, he is survived by his father, Joseph Grady Hamm, Jr., his brothers Danny (Sandra) Hamm and Kenny (Cathy) Hamm all of Marianna and his sister Belinda (Rick) Boedy of Big Canoe, Georgia, as well as their children.

The family wishes to thank Big Bend Hospice, especially Ida and Becky, for this compassionate and loving care during Michael’s illness.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s memory can be made to Big Bend Hospice,  the American Cancer Society,  or a non-profit of one’s choice.

Funeral services for Ms. Patricia Ann Shack will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 12:00 noon from the sanctuary of Second West Missionary Baptist Association located at 4110 Herring Ave, Marianna, FL 32448. Reverend Freddie Roulhac, Elder Virgil L. Johnson Sr., Missionary Lucy B. Shack, and Reverend Dr. Eugene Diamond officiating.

Interment in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Marianna, FL.

Dawn Bradley

On Thursday, March 7, 2019, Dawn Bradley wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt passed away suddenly at the age of 54. Dawn will be forever remembered by her husband and best friend James Bradley, Jr, and her precious son, James Bradley, III (Kimbri), and their daughter Dawn’s only grandchild, Hannah.

Dawn was born on August 27, 1964 to Monroe and Carmel (Lettiere) Dowling in Miami, Florida. She married the love of her life, Jim Bradley in 1984. Dawn was loved by family and friends, had passion for cooking, and enjoyed sewing and fishing. Her true joy and life’s purpose was her family, who were not ready to lose her so quickly. She was known for her kindness, generous spirit, and sense of humor.

Dawn will be greatly missed by her surviving brothers Joseph (Kimberly) Dowling, and James (Elizabeth) Dowling, her nieces and nephews Benjamin Dowling, Mellissa Dowling, Joseph Dowling, Jr, Billy Sacconi, Dominique Dowling, and Jessica Dowling, along with extended family and lifelong friends that she loved dearly. She has joined her beloved father Red, and her mother Carm, who passed on before her.

A celebration of Dawn’s life will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Marianna Chapel Funeral Home, 3960 Lafayette Street, Marianna, Florida with Pastor Steven Subel officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service. Interment will follow at the Coulliette-Gilley Cemetery.

Harold J. Pate, age 72 of Cottondale, passed from this life on March 12, 2019 at Flower’s Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.

Harold was born on September 8, 1946 in Panama City, Florida to J.D. and Toby Ramer Pate. He was lifelong resident of the Florida Panhandle.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Lou Ettie Pate of Cottondale, Florida; sons: George Pate and wife Ronda of Molino, Florida, Daniel Pate of Cottondale, Florida; daughter: Connie Corbin and husband Phillip of Cottondale, Florida; brothers: Donnie Pate of Tallahassee, Florida, Herman Pate of Fountain, Florida, Phillip Pate of Tallahassee, Florida, Hester Pate of Chipley, Florida; sisters: Judy Fritz of Fountain, Florida, Sybal Lollie of Apalachicola, Florida; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 3P.M. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Cottondale, Florida with Rev. Jack Brock officiating. Interment will follow in Cottondale Assembly of God Cemetery with Obert Funeral Home of Chipley, Florida directing.

Tessie Viola Poole, 87, of Sneads passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at Marianna Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Poole was a native and life long resident of Jackson County. She was a member of the Salem Wesleyan Church for more than 60 years. Tessie retired from the Jackson County School Board after 20 years in Food Service. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, canning, and loved to bake. Tessie was known as the caretaker of the community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Poole; son, Roger Poole; daughter, Wendy Michelle Poole; parents, Brady Mack and Maggie Robinson Poole; brother, M.R. McKinnie; two grandchildren, Tracy Wierman and Loriann Guy; brother-in-laws, Cohen Poole and Julius Poole; and sister-in-laws, Evelyn Williams, Frances Poole, and Yvonne Poole.

Survivors include two sons, Mack David Poole and wife, Frances of Sneads, Kirby Poole and wife, Marilyn of Marianna; three daughters, Pat Williams and husband, Jim of Marianna, Kathy Poole, Glenda Chason and husband, Gary all of Sneads; two brothers, Jerry McKinnie and wife, Maria of Sneads, Oscar McKinnie and, wife Katie of Sneads; three sisters, Essie Baxter, Margaret Robbirds, and Shirley Hare all of Sneads; nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; brother-in-laws R.C. Poole and Brannon Poole; sister-in-laws, Helen Allen, Lillie May Goodson, Etta Poole and Lornell Poole.

Funeral services will be 11 A.M., Saturday, March 16, 2019 at the Salem Wesleyan Church with Rev. Jeff Cook officiating.   Interment will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

James E. Edenfield

James E. Edenfield age 78 of Gaffney, SC passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2019.  James was a native of Florida born on April 24, 1940 to the late Elton and Dora Bell Edenfield. He loved preaching and had served many years as a pastor. James enjoyed fishing, sports, wood working, but most of all he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren who he loved dearly. James truly loved people.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his half brother Michael Edenfield. 

James is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Josephine Edenfield, children Don Edenfield of Panama City, FL, Dallas Edenfield (Brandi) of Lake City, Fl, Mikki Bates (Gary) of Michigan, Kelly Elmore (Wayne)of Marianna, step-daughter Marcia Hollingsworth (Regi), South Carolina, step-daughter Rhonda Phillips (Ronny) of South Carolina, sisters JoAnn McCoy of Chattahoochee, FL and Janice Bush of Chipley, 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 4 great - great grandchildren.

Richard Eugene Moody age 45 of Alford passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 in Marinna.

Richard was a native of Alford born on December 21, 1973 to the late Earl and Deborah Moody. He worked several years in fast food, loved working for Williams Bait Farm, and also worked for Betty Hatcher for many years. Richard enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and with his dog.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his Aunt Janice Rotenberry. Richard is survived by his brother Earl Moody, sisters Carrie Hill, Darlene Butler, and Tracy Ritter Curlee, nephews Nicholas Moody, Tyler Moody, nieces Sarah Moody, and Annabelle Moody, second momma Judy Williams. Richard is also survived by many special family and friends.

A Celebration of Life service for Richard will be held at 5:00 P.M., on Saturday, March 16, 2019 in the Marianna Funeral Home with Judy Williams and Willie Gay officiating. Family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until time of service.

Lucy Neel, 90, of Sneads, Florida went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 14, 2019.

Born in Cottonwood, Alabama on April 3, 1928, Mrs. Neel was a resident of Sneads, Florida and retired from Florida State Hospital. She was a member of El Bethel Assembly of God Church in Sneads, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband, M.C. Neel.

Survivors include her three children; sons, Charlie Neel, Jeffrey Neel, and daughter, Anna Kay Neel; five grandchildren, Chuck Neel and wife, Tess, Crystal Cloud and husband, Nick, Carrie Poole and husband, Jerry, Keyela Hampton and husband, Robert, Melissa Miller and husband, Mark; and 14 great grandchildren, along with a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at El Bethel Assembly of God Church with Reverends Juno Douglas and Clinton Howell officiating. 

Interment will follow in Cow Pen Pond Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home directing. 

The family will receive friends from 3:00 P.M. to 6 P.M. Friday, March 15, 2019 at El Bethel Assembly of God Church and 1:00 P.M. on Saturday March 16, 2019 at El Bethel Assembly of God in Sneads.

She was a native of Jackson County, a member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Campbellton, Florida. She was born October 17, 1930 to the union of Henry and Mary Cotton.  

She is survived by her son: James Walker (Carrie) of South Orange, NJ; a brother: Earnest Hall of Jacob City, Florida; five grandchildren; numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be 3-6 PM, Friday, March 22, 2019 at the funeral home

Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, March 23, 2019 at St. Paul AME Church in Campbellton, Florida.

She will be laid to rest in the Saint Paul/New Bethel Cemetery in Campbellton, Florida under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Mrs. Elizabeth K. Strange, 80, of Grand Ridge, FL went home to be with the Lord on March 11, 2019 at her home with her family at her side.

She was a native of Houston County, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents: Perry and Beatrice Kirkland; and a son, Donald Strange, Jr.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Lisa Ford (James) of Tallahassee, Florida and Patricia Johnson (David) of Grand Ridge, Florida; four sisters: Laura Kirkland of Sneads, Florida, Dorothy Franklin of Grand Ridge, Florida, Mary Mears and Lillie Walters of Marianna, Florida; four grandchildren: Michael Ford, Raven Ford, David Johnson, Jr. (Tessa) and Patrick Johnson (Summer); one great grandson, Benjamin Gibson; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of life will be Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Cypress Community Church, 2809 Church Street, Cypress, FL.

The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM at the church, under the directions of Christian Memorial Chapel of Graceville, Florida.

Sara Maxine Edge of Fountain, Fl passed awy on Thursday, March 15, 2019 in Chipley. She was born on October 9, 1945 in Punxsutawney, PA to the late John and Helen Yoder Hollis. Sara was a retired nurse, and had lived in the panhandle since 1979. She was of the Methodist faith.

Sara is survived by two sons Vincent Edge of Fountain, FL, and Alex Edge of Sumter County, FL, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters.

Memorialization will be cremation. A memorial service will be held at a later date and will be announced by Williams Funeral Home.

John F. “Jeff” Allen

John Faison “Jeff” Allen, 78, of Indianapolis, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2019.

He was born on December 12, 1940 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, to the late Joseph Dana and Caroline (Faison) Allen.  Jeff graduated from The Haverford School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in music from Denison University.  He went on to serve in the USAF from 1963-1970.  Following his honorable discharge, he completed his Master’s Degree in psychology from Ball State University.  He worked as a psychologist Apalachee Correctional Institution in Florida for 25 years.  He also served in the Alabama Air National Guard and retired as a Captain in 2004.

Jeff was very active with several churches in Florida, specifically the Christian and Missionary Alliance and First Presbyterian Church of Marianna.  After relocating to Indianapolis, he joined South Irvington Church of the Nazarene and later attended Trinity Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed serving in church food pantries and singing in the choir.  Jeff loved classical music and sang in numerous musical performances throughout his life.

Jeff is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruthanne (Reynolds); three sons, John, Joel and Frank; five grandchildren; brother, Joseph “Jay” Allen; and sister, Judy Kniffen. Also, Jeff’s caregivers became like family, and Jeff’s family wishes to express our grateful appreciation to James Jones, Keenan Wright, and Crystal Hardy, for their indispensable support and kindness.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at 11 am at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.  Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or First Presbyterian Church, Marianna, Florida.  For more information and to leave online condolences for the family, please visit www.flannerbuchanan.com.
